I think the Goofmister just stepped over the line... and that's pretty bad if I think your out of line. I don't care if you shoot people randomly on the street while smoking weed, sniffing glue, searing, farting, spitting on people, touching yourself, and making love to cattle... but, cybering TinkerGirl... yuck.

Anyway, how do you know she's not an overweight, smelly, 80 year old.

300gb is too small, it's actually behind current magnetic storage technology. I've got 3 500gb hard disks on my desk at work that i'm about to put into firewire 800 portable boxes - I saw an article where they commented on the access speed of the new holographic units (which i've not got the link to hand and dont remember the figures) and I remember thinking that's slower than my existing drive.

It's a great technology and i'm sure it represents the future, but the current product being proposed in inadequate and likely to flop... It's probably being funded by a major magnetic media manufacturer behind the scenes who wants to give holo-media a bad name...

It'll be like 10$ per gig hahaa but 300gigs on a disk would be nice. But will they just be R or RW, or both?

as stated before, there are 500 gb disks, I saw one for sale when I bought my 250 gb disk, but I decided not to buy because I dont need 500 gigs, i still have an unpartitioned area on my 250 gb hdd.

A far better hard disk innovation is to make use of the growing popularity of onboard raid controllers and buy two smaller hard disks and raid stripe them - so that information is written too/read from both hard disks at once, effectively halving your hard disk access time, it's a huge boost in system performance.

2x250gb on a raid stripe is easily superior to 1x500gb drive.

Now put that into context of a holographic drive, if they are not cheap enough to allow us to buy two then there really is no upgrade. If on the other hand this technology arrives and is more affordable than magnetic media then it will have a positive future.

http://www.gk2gk.com/topten/waystotell.asp Here's another site that's pretty true... execpt for the part about all geeks caring for anyone else. I'd consider myself a geek, and I regularly intimidate, hurt, and/or insult whoever's in my imidiate vicinity. Now we have something to talk about other than cybering!
