To those who think blogs are for emo kids: Wake up, it's not 1995 anymore. To those who think social networking sites are for those with no real social life: You're either very old, or very out of touch with the world. To those who say MySpace is poorly designed: Amen.

It's overrated and I don't think it's addictive like some people say - I don't "collect" friends like points, as some people do - it's still very useful. Anyone I meet through any of my friends probably has a MySpace, even those with Xanga or Facebook accounts. And I'm not even in touch with the local nerd culture (in fact they're the ones who usually scorn MySpace for some more geek-chic networking site).

One thing that must be understood about myspace though, it originally wasn't coded to handle so many people. It was originally in place as a place for new bands to get their music heard and their names known, then it expanded into what it is, always using pretty much the same coding.

What were seeing now is the windows servers (yes they are windows servers) being overloaded and overused, creating crashes often.

It dosen't help the fact that they add new features which just slow down everything more.

What they need to do is a complete overhaul, and now that fox owns it, they should have the resources to do it.

I do have myspace, http://www.myspace.com/erict, though kindly send a message explaining who you are if your gonna add me. I have about 20 friends requests just sitting there because I don't know who the people are.

Well the problem is, we're talking about Fox... Fox... This is the same management team that decided Firefly and Family Guy needed to be cancelled (funny story, both now have new seasons airing/going to be aired, though Firefly will be on a different medium now).

So getting fox to fund an overhaul would be like getting them to pull teeth, I don't think its gonna happen. That is, as long as people keep using what is already in place.

Im getting tired of it, I agree it is so poorly designed for what its beeing force fed these days. People base real life relationships on whether your "in there top 8" or not. I think its a bunch of crap. It is a nice site, better than some of the other ons with the same concept. I hate those "bulletins" that everyone uses to post chain letters, about virus's that are "Hard Drive Killers". or "Tom is deleting acounts OMG)ZRZ!!". Like he ACTUALLY cares about YOU... Thats the reason why I'm leaving pretty soon.

His name is steven lynch. Kat sent it to me the other day, and I decided it was "make the people who look at my page each day have to listen to it" worthy.

I tried using it but im just not the kinda person who uses it. Funny story however, some kids were cuaght looking at it at my school, and the teachers deemed it inapriopriate so they sent a letter home to parents about this dangerous website. the letter was of course made by complete idiots, and they called myspace a "personel internet creator".

If you're so smart, why are you reading my post?

Okay, so this thread died, but I know why it is poorly designed.

First of all, the reason the layout sucks is because that's where you come in. To design it yourself to show off your characteristics, not because they can't do a better job. If they made it nice no one would bother customising their account. Think of it as somewhat designing your room, or decorating it or something.

like/hate stuff becuase it's popular/isn't popular = stupid
like stuff becuase it is in your interests = smart

Also, I use Stumble Upon, its less on the social but useful(but still some social). Click a button and a random website pops up(based on your interests) that is submitted a reviewed by the community.

Dimitri Martin did a thing about that on the Daily Show, and it's been talked about in the news recently, some study by such-n-such concluded this crap and that crap.

I have myspace, at [href]www.myspace.com/Mattr0ck[/href], but I don't add people I don't know in real life. Except that Matt kid (his name is "you broke my myspace") whose on my friends list because I thought he was someone else and I'm too lazy to erase him. But yeah, he's the only person on the list that I don't actually know in real life, except Bono and Ben Folds of course Most of my friends use it (many of whom I haven't added, also because I'm lazy). While it's handy for contacting my pals and stuff, I don't use it all that often. I'm sick of being spammed by people who want to be on my friends list... it gets annoying.

You are a very bad person for liking that site. It’s for stupid people and the people on there are just looking for attention, I advise you to stop going to that site.

Haha, Matt, you thought I was someone else that you know from Manteca, California?

I think I go on myspace maybe once a day, just to see if somethings happened that I need to know about, maybe tell people about something I've been doing, or talk to people I've taken interest in. But that whole making friends like they're points thing is more shallow than using an online dating service (when you don't need to). Its wonderful for band uses like announcing performances, getting feedback (not that I'd know too much about that, haven't gotten my real bands stuff on there yet, but after shows people let you know what they thought), and connecting to your bandmates without going through the "hassle" of email (I know its not that much hassle, but MySpace IS easier). In all, it IS easier, but I would hardly use it to express myself other than music.

I don't use Myspace, but I know a lot of cool people that do. Also, a lot of Americans on Okinawa use it as a hookup site. What better way to meet interesting people on island that you might otherwise never meet?

I just don't like communicating on the internet. It seems like a huge waste of time. My wife loves Myspace, she's always showing me what her friends are posting. I'm always showing her my games. Hopefully she's more interested in my games than I am of her account.

This is the ONLY forum I visit. In fact, machines are evil and shouldn't be trusted. Normally, the only people I even talk to are people that A. I drink with, or B. Women. You all should consider yourselves lucky...

MySpace is fully of emos, I only use it to contact my real friends, I never talk to the guys who added me who have never met me before, heck even my emo friend has a typical emo myspace profile, taking picture of their hair in admiration for it, and adding loads of crap to his profiles that isn't needed (Even that video of the German kid having a hissy fit over his PC) but the bastard gets comments from girls saying how good looking he is, and before he was emo, girls wouldn't even say anything like that. Why does being emo suddenly make you good looking?

Oh and of course, ADD DUCKY to myspace, his profile link was in my sig, but I was told it was an ugly sig and decided to remove it (Wonder if doigy or john added the video of ducky doing headspins yet)

and well for those strange enough to add me heres the link, you'll get a piccy of my kissing a lifesize playmobil dude who lives outside a toy shop down an alleyway in Cambridge.

emo doesn't make you good looking, it makes you look like a newage hippy that does nothing but mope and complain. Wear some women's pants, dab on a little makeup, get that dorky haircut, and start bitchin'.

My friend's emo gf told us this:
