Just started to piddle with the particle commands, but the darn things are extremely blocky when you get far from them. They get noticably white-ish. Any clues on how to kill this? My test world does have a matrix and other 3d objects, don't know if this effects it.
P.S. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

what do you mean by blocky? - that depends on the image used to create the particle - which should be a small circle coloured in the colour that you want on top of a black background.

Doesn't have to be a sphere, interesting effects can be achieved with other images too, here's a few from a game i'm not likely to release (needs another 6 or so levels designing and a few more monsters, and it isn't good enough - written to learn about bsp's).

Hmmm, How do I explain blocky ... Like you can see the plane ... with a bright white color, instead of the image I assigned. This only happens when I'm a decent ways from the particles, or when i'm standing in the middle, looking out. And yes, I am using an image with a black background and an image on it. Does it matter what format? I'm using jpg, would Targa or GIF or BMP be better?

Have you got the fog turned on? Sound like a fog issue to me.

Its normally to do with the graphics drivers, not being the latest, or the graphics card cant handle something...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Hmm, probably the graphics card i've got (ProSavage8 Integrated 32MB) I suppose this will have to do until I get a GeForce4 Ti4200 ...

i have a Savage4 Pro 32Mb (Creative not an onboard version) it is pretty bloody powerful for what it is too, i'm surprised cause its almost as fast as my GeForce2 mx - well unless i overclock it

the comment wasn't ment nastily to Pneu - just look at the particles for the rocket ... thats almost as bad as the particle effects in Scarab (god now if anyone remembers that, then you'll probably agree that Orchid was the best card ever made )

well, i find that my SavagePro isn't very OpenGL compaitable ... which is a pain in the bottom. Can't play NeverWinter Nights without so many graphical errors, it's just not fun anymore... Thankfully I beat it on my old machine (Laptop with ATI Mobility 4 ... 8 megs ...) ::sigh:: Just can't have nice things.

i'd use GLsetup (can be found on Quake3, Oni, etc...) the current BitFlip driver for the Savage4 Pro is fantastic, admitidly it is a DirectX card to the core ... but the BitFlip driver from SonicBlue (S3) does certainly do ALOT of the fixxes that were cryed out for back in '96

the onboard versions are really pathetic powerwise though aparently - only way to do most card justic is by using the AGP versions

if i were you i'd checkout Watford Electronics ... very cheap, very good Hardware Shop
