Hey,

I've heard that in Patch 4 all 3d formats except .x have been removed is this just for Beta testing and they will be there on genral release or is this permanent for Patch 4?

they're not putting them back... they're adding converter functions that convert these formats to DBO on loading.

but i wouldn't worry - cause as soon as i can get my grubby hands on the DBO format there will be some exporters being developed for the more used 3D Packages, Milkshape/Maya/3DS Max - i can't code for Lightwave or trueSpace yet, cause i've never figured out howto get a plugin working.

but hopefully for these main packages will be good enough for most users (especially as most seem to use Milkshape or 'not-quite-legal' 3DS Max)

So how will the converter functions work? At the beginning, when you tell it to load an object that has a .3ds extension, will it just automatically convert it to the format or do you have to use a function on the file?

it'll probably do it discreetly and just add like Nth amount of second on the loading time and setting up of the resources

removing the useful option to import 3ds files and oblige the users to use a system of convertors?

is'nt that making it all more difficult?

DBPro does the conversion automatically.

Mike said he'll send me the stuff when the patch is released officially as they might still change the format, sounds a little overly custious to me cause rewriting the model format now would be a little insane on the eve of the patch - but then again i suppose it could happen

so we await the patch ... and hopefully then i can test if it works as well hehee - which is always good
