I don't know what to put for the height. I tried cos(x*20)+cos(z*20) but that doesn't work perfectly all the time.

Might help it you explain what you are trying to do a bit more clearly.

If you trying to generate a smoothed hill I have a rather nice method (dont have the code handy but its pretty easy)

1: Generate a random point on the matrix with a large height value

2: set each point on the matrix to the average of the height of the surrounding 9 points based on its position.

3: repeat 2 until your happy.

If you average only 2-3 times you get a jagged pointy mountain type thing but if you run the averageing function a few times it produces a nice smooth hill.

If you seed the matrix with several random points in the first step you end up with nice rolling hills that all blend into each other nicely.

If anyones interested I could dig out some code that generates hills like this tonight.

I don't think anyone knows what I mean. Has anyone used magic world? I making a level maker and I want to make hills like that does.
