I've just upgraded my '98 machine to XPPro and now DBPro won't install - and I'm gutted!

InstallShield Wizard throws the following error:
An error occurred while launching the setup.
The remote procedure call failed.

Anyone know a work-around please?

Not running any background processes apart from the default XP ones....

Thanks very much...

I know what the problem is, unfortunately the solution sucks. Trying to upgrade 98 to XP works about as good as trying to install DirectX on MacOS 9. I tried to "upgrade" my PC about 5 times, then gave up and did a "fresh" install. After that I had no problems installing anything.

Hope ya can find a better solution...

Seems to be a problem with the installshield script....why's it attempting an RPC anyway?

probably to stuff something in the registry or to register a DLL. are you a member of the administrator's group? not sure if the OS is as picky as it is in Win2K, but that might have something to do with it.

i had a new XP Pro box and here's what i did:
downloaded all the XP patches & applied them
made myself an admin
installed DBPro

this has worked fine for me.
