hey,
at the moment i am working on a program to help people who are good at programing but cant fine any media files to create there games with, this is going to be called gsupport (game support).

idea:
my main aim is to make a program that is easy to use and will allow you to add files to the program for other to use in there games i will do this by useing ftp. this wil be uploaded to my server which will be accessed useing the program.

allreadly done:
i have made a fully working gui set up useing bluegui just started the ftp programing to fit into the gadgets that are all readly made and working.
thanks to GogetaX for FTP Client and 0% CPU dll plugin which has been a big help with the work so far.

things to come:
fully working ftp on all gadgets
download muity files at once
a download bar to see how far you have to go
a tab for downloads so you can see how far each download has left
a * system to list the files to see which are best (vote)
a page to ask for things like a forum
search for searching for curtain files that you are looking for, for your game e.g. guns

Cool, sorta like a p2p network for game developers then? Sounds exceedingly useful

One thought - what about a rating/comment system, that way lousey entries can be filtered away.

its uploaded to some server. but you dont need to creare of that cuz the upload feature is in the gsupport program i think.

hmm, i'd even donate a few of my earlier models for armoured dragon, and a few other of my games to help out.

Will there be a request page?

I could see a major bandwidth problem though for this program, as soon as 1000+ programs / media are being downloaded / uploaded unless you've got yourself a dedicated server with no bandwidth limit

it is hosted by me with unlimited bandwidth. i am also going to make a request page later on and also if i start to get downloads slow i will make more than one page and a search to cut down on the number of files per pag which could get bad if there is a lot of people uploading. i am going to bring out the first verion end of the week and the other things will be added one as the project devalops. thanks agin for all of you help/support and any media would be very much liked as i do not have much to put into it for a start with going to get the programing out of the way realy before i try and get making media for it. so thanks

here is a quick update for you i have just got the ftp for the news page and the first downloads page sound_and_music working just adding that it all the others and will then be working on the uploading section. once i have done this there will be verion one downloadable for bugs and then i will add in the * rating and other cool stuff to make the program better.

edit:
problem found
when u download the file it takes a while to download because of the app will w8 until download is got before going onto the next line. this will not let you get more files for small files this will be ok for for large ones u may be sat there for a while.

ways to fix this
make it so you click download and it opens a new program to download it like in internet ex when u click on it then save or open.
i could make it add them to a list and then u click download later. (will run in same window frezzing app)
or i put them both together so you add them all to list and then click download and it will open a app to download them then clear the list of downloads readly for download.

please can you give me you ideas on this as soon as possible so i can start to get this into verison 1 and still get it out by the end of the week lol

you could use a sort of bit torrent, if you know what i'm talking about.

dunno about the seperate download windows for every single media downloaded, but you could do that then hide the window automatically and show progress on your main window, just an idea. Hopefully something like LimeWire

yes but i cant show the prosess as the app will be locked the one that is downloadiun gi can show each file that has been download or files to be downloaded but the seccond app would not work and if u tryed to like view it would just be black. so i was thinking do it like this with the main ap seeing how much is left and the other app downloading them the other downloading app would not be a working app it would just run then stop and end.

hmm just an idea, but for the rating system, each user that uploads content, if the content is rated highly after a while maybe post some advertising for that user in the side of the news page? Sort of like publicity for giving lots of 'good' resources.

Doesn't everyone realise he could see who we are by our ip's i mean yes it looks good but going to a home server is kinda dodgy it log's ip's then you put the ip in an ip extractor site it'll show your name isp e.t.c we need more privacy really like ssl or something

umm you do understand that anywhere you got they get your ip darkbasic have your ip. you can get your ip just by posting on this site and others can get it there is nothing dodgy about it i am trying to make a program for people that will help them with there games and stuff. i do not have money to by a fast ftp server if i did then i would host from that however i dont so all i got is a home server and maby it is not the best and people may think like you did but i am trying to help you lot making getting media easyer.

and yes that is a good idea by the way about the rating system the like top 20 or 50 go onto the left side of the news page

get her up and running the quicker the better =P

Post it in here, so I can easily take a lookie. Hmm add a tutorial section aswell so I can show some 'old school' techniques to make the most of DBC

I've attatched one material, this is the sort of quality i'll be posting up , made it using dark basic classic and i use it for the water features in Dog Fighters 2

i just updated the ftp server and everthing apart from the news page is working i will not wrry about the news page i will just get the file listing on all sections and the uploader to work then i will post it here.

edit:
done all file listings just got the uploader to do i will add the information about each file later i will keep the thing for it in the uploader and get it to work but i will not add it to the file lists until i have had verything else tested by you lot.

yes i hope to have a small test demo out by friday only got to realy get the upload tab done and the rest can come in the later updates. here is a list of things the first verion can do.

uploadfiles

second version i hope to have
reconmendations

information about files

other
not sure yet want to see how these 2 versions do first

if anyone has anyideas then please just post them here and i will look at them if they are good will add them into a later update of the app.

yes but that will have to come in the later version i am only getting the basic working for the first version then seccond version will get all of that like after i have fixed the bugs in version one.

i hope to have version 2 out about a week after version one with the bug fixed and rating system and other stuff.

What would be really good would be allowing people to upload a thumbnail of the model which could be linked in some way so that downloaders can see what they are getting. Meh, that is probably just unneeded extra work!

I'm not that god at at texturing but I will contribute as much stuff as I can.

thanks and yes that was going to come in the update 2 once i have got the basic very easy to do that for it however not sure how much this is going to lag yet with all othe ftp stuff it will be doing for each one. however if it does lag i will add a button for get information which will then get the information off the ftp server. however the amount size for a small image would not take any time at all but i will need to test it to find out.

hi.
first of all - brilliant idea (wish i'd thought of that )

Secondly, How's about a viewer so you can view the files you've just downloaded... Or maybe you can assosiate the (for example).3ds tag with an application and automatically open this program once the file is downloaded. Of course this would have to be in the 2nd or 3rd version of your program... just a thought.

ok cool thanks very much and good idea i will see waht i can do in adding that after the first version is out lol. i will mostliky post the beta test app on the forum some time before firday it is all made in bluegui at the moment and i heop to modify the look later on in the versions.

no i need to get it to wrok with the gui and make the information files and get the ftp stuff to work with it. i also need to make it check a few things like if the file exsit on ftp it is not hard program just takes ages with the gui gagets. the uploader is nerly done now so when it is working i will check for bugs and post here.

no it has not my server i was hosting the ftp on got messed up by somone hacking it i now have it bakc up with better stuff to stop it agin. i will be testing the updater in a few hours but have not been ablew to do anything while it was down as it is all ftp based sorry for the delay.

ok everthing is working apart from the uploader still trying to find out why and in the first version not much is working only basic uploading and downloading. i will then be making my own graphics and stuff so it will look a lot beter in the second version.

Create a basic template, that way people can make their own graphics! 'Skins' I believe they're called.

Onto my question, is there a fully working version up 4 download yet? If so how secure is it? Will you have an anti virus on the main server to detect if the files are infected?
