About the game:
Zombie Hunter is a Horror First Person Shooter.
you play the role as Carl, apparantly the only survivor of an accident that wiped out the whole town. during the game the player experiences some smaller puzzles that one needs to figure out in order to complete the level. it could be a heavy object that need to be moved, which was blocking a path, could be a breakable grid, could be an item that the player need etc. etc.

Progress:
the game have been under development since february this year.
i have however made other versions of the game: the "classic" game, which i completed in 2003 and the "survive" game that is a remake of "classic". which i completed in 2005. This (v1.8) is the original game, the "story" game. i have rewritten the game engine 3 times and just now have i found a way to code it the way i want it to be.

Downloads:
v1.8.0.3 ~ 10'500 kb [zip] - Story Game
v1.7 ~ 12'600 kb [zip] - Survive Game
v1.0 ~ 1'200 kb [zip] - Classic Game

Progress of game:
Player Control Customization*
New Zombie Model
New Zombie Animations
One New Enemy
Remake Levels
Flames
Explosions
Doors
Breakable Stuff
Heads up Display
Weapon Animations
New Weapon Models
Scroll through weapons with mouse wheel
Rocket Launcher Weapon*
Flame Thrower Weapon*
Cutscenes to tell the story*
and i cant think of anything else right now.

*not in demo

Total Progress of Game in DBC: 99.9% (all i need is the new level)

Features: (When new demo is out)
3 weapons (flashlight, pistol & shotgun)
2 types of zombies and 1 new enemy "ZS" (zombie slayer) kind of a marine dude
3 levels
a HUD
Explosions and Flames
Doors (openable and locked)
and probably more that i have forgotten to add

Screenshots: (old -> new)

Nice looking level, it strikes me as not being near dark and scarey enough. The flashlight thingee isn't bad, but again, it's way too light. Same for the gun. So in short, tone down all the lighting, this is a zombie game not a duck hunt

heya, thanks for the feedback.

in order for the lightmap to work properly i have to use rather bright ambient light. i can lower it but then the black will become space black and the bright will be very very dark.

however yesterday i worked on some lightning and it looks a tiny bit better in my opinion.

about my modelling skills / texturing skills,
i would really really like someone to model for me i know my 3d/2d skills are the worst ever imagined but there is nothing i can do. im quite happy with the shoutgun also, in my opinion that is my best looking weapon ^^

i started my zombie game in 2003 so everyone else have copied me, yea thats it :/

here are some screenshots of the zombies.

what i will do with the zombies that is not available in v1.7 is:
-zombies crawl through tight holes (tunnels, like in the pictures above)
-zombies climb through windows or anything that goes through their chest
-zombies climb up on large places if they can reach
-zombies walk around stuff, and not actually walk into them
-zombies jump up small obstacles, ie stairs
and i cant remember what else i wrote down.. im at work you know :/

here are the pics:

edit,
btw i have made a level2. when level1 and 2 are done (probably 2mins of gameplay) and the zombies are working how i want, then maybe i will release a pre-demo

i did not get any time to work much yesterday, but i made the teleport from level to level complete. so player can now move to level2. i dont have any screenshots though.

cian, the last picture? you mean dbpro test thingie?
i attached it to this post..

(edit, in that picture (dbpro) it says 49fps, infact its closer to 1500fps but sync is locked at 60)

i just want to know what frame rate you guys get

and tell me if you get scared at all or just jump a tiny bit
its nothing much, just lvl1 and lvl2. there are a few bugs in it, and i know about most of them but please add some if you want.

computer nerd, im sure you meant Darkbasic v1 and not pro
dbnewbie, yes the stair :/ i need to figure out a way to check for a stair.. hmm i think i know how now too bad i dont have dbc at work

the sounds, heh... i made them all with my mouth, except the door knocking and the door sound on lvl1, and rain and thunder sound on lvl2.

what was your fps?
did the camera mouselook sometimes got "stuck" and you couldn't rotate? (happens at low frame rate)

3.2 ghz 512mb RAM Radeon 9550 256mb

27-33 fps

And I got that weird mouselook. But it was a nice demo, and the game has surely improved a lot.

Godt klaret.

if i remove the lightmap from the game, it runs at 75fps here when i put it back on, it runs at 39fps :/

well i will still have the option to turn it on and off like in v1.7.
i did that earlier. what i am currently working on is the collision.
i might use sparkys dll for this version also, but it doesn't look very pretty.. maybe ill just have to run a few tests before deciding.

and i think i figured out the stair bug:
if inside a stair action zone, first move object up 32bits, check for collision, if no collision then this means a new step on the stair is below the player, if not, then it is a wall.
well that is my pseudo.. ill test it out after i get a proper working collision system implemented.

I have a suggestion, maby you could use that male model that goes along with dbc, just make a zombie texture for him.

thank you.

before i leave again i just want to mention that i have added a new collision system, using sparkys DLL. the problem is though that when i collide with a wall the player automatically moves to the top of that wall and sometimes outside the world and up on the roof. but it successfully works on stairs and the likes where you wont need to jump to get on top of objects.

got to go nowz0r

thanks alot guyz.

hmm i got the collision to work how i want to now. but still there is a problem with the stair now :/ i guess i have to look into this a little further. after 1 hour of stair coding and testing.. and there is still one more thing i haven't tried yet.

i guess another level is coming soon the sewers.
then i will add eax effects in the different rooms in the levels (like sewer eax in the sewer, carpeted hallway in the big room in lvl1 etc. and probably some more 3d sounds and particles.

after that is done ill start working on the intro cutscene, then another demo preview thinge

i need to know what your framerate are.. so i know if i need to change maybe some math or remove effects/objects you know what i mean.

i get around 39 on my computer and 30 on my brothers computer. and that is very playable. i think 30 fps would be "normal" then.

edit,
another cool feature is cheat codes.
i use them for debugging and stuff, like go from one level to another real quick etc. etc.

today i added a cutscene. well its not a cutscene more like text.
im too lazy to do animation and stuff with the camera etc. etc. so i made it as simple as i could :/

i dont know how to fix the stair collision bug but im sure ill think of something.

i might add elevators to the gmae too. and openable doors.

the game engine i use is the one of TIAME (my world editor) so making new levels is rather easy i just need 1 variable, "NEXTLEVEL". so if i give NEXTLEVEL the value of 3 it will load lvl3 without any problems at all, which is rather cool in my opinion

here are some new pictures

thanks

yea i use tiame (or this is a map editor) for the levels.
but i use 3 tools to make 1 level which usually takes up to 2 hours..
1st step is through DeleD where i make the design of the levels. and texture it.
2nd step is through a lightmapper.
3rd step is through tiame where i position the zombies, ammo, weapons, sounds etc. etc.
and yes tiame is available from my website.

the stair is now kind of functional, not quite but you sometimes get stuck and you have to move alot forth and back and jump a bit too :/

anyway, i added an elevator to the sewer level. and it works quite well but not as well as i had hoped for.

and here is a new demo with all 3 levels which shows what i've done so far on the game

download ~ 10mb [rar]

also note that the intro when starting the story mode can not be skipped .^^ i have yet to add that, but im too lazy :/
and the intro is really really bad but i guess it could've been worse :/

so enjoy the new demo, and tell me any bugs you find.

also note that when there are lots of zombies the game use lots of cpu power, so i think a 2ghz processor is needed..

lukas w i have a suggestion. you should make it so that the blood from the zombies when you shoot them gets deleted pretty fast. because i shot up this zombie and blood was everywere and it slowed the game down like crazy.

dbnewbie,
yea i wrote that program on my AMD 2200+ with 128mb ram and it ran as slow as that or even slower. then i got my new computer and it runs at 75fps or something

but you can try to decrease the screen size. find the settings file (i dont remember where i put it) and change resolution.
in that file you can also change draw mode for the gui. (sprite or image) and in the editor, try to turn the fog on.
also, to press a button, you have to hold the mousebutton for a while for the program to realize you are pressing it :/

manticore,
the stair is very buggy i know. i haven't figured out how to do that yet. so i made it so the player will jump when on the stair, to prevent him from getting stuck under it.
the intro is rather annoying sometimes because you cant skip it. but i will add a skip thingie later. (right now i have just remed it out)
and i know my zombies suck. but believe it or not, that is my best human looking model i have ever created. maybe i will try to improve it someday.
