forget that level

i made another one that is a bit cooler, and it creates more depth to the story using this level.

edit,
i also noticed why the stair is so bugged,
the stair was built up of blocks like:

now i use stairs that looks like

which works alot better, and i wonder why i didn't try this out until now :/

ok well i dont think it will be necsesary. lvl5 will be in the streets of a town. lvl6 an abandoned factory..

i found that 3dsmax was way easier to make levels in (more like how TIAME v2.02 is, exept tiame cannot export to 3ds or .x so i cant add lightmapping in tiame), so i think i will redmake the levels to gain less polygons, and increase frames per second.

after lvl4 is done, lvl1-3 are remade and i have everything i need done up to lvl4 i will probably release another demo

so far, gameplay is 20mins. i hope i can get it up to 2hours or something in the final release.

edit,
and i need to make more sound effects :/ and i have to figure out a way to tell the story.. my cutscenes suck, so i must try to add the story in-game. maybe the main character would talk..

i have also added a new character to the game: police.
they are part of a team who kills zombies, to clean the town from the evil bastards. they think you, the main character, is a zombie or will turn into a zombie.

and i have to work on the AI to make sure the Zombies attack the police, and the police attack the zombies. it would be cool if i could make the police pretty smart, so they can run for cover etc.

i bought oblivion yesterday and i played it from 4pm when i got home to 7pm when i had band practise. it felt like 5 mins :/

but oblivion wasn't that much fun as i thought it would be. so i would rather be working on zombie hunter. and i dont know why, but i seem to get my inspiration from half life 2..

i cant wait to start working on the dbpro version, because i love the hl2 physics, and i am pretty sure i can get it close to the "source" engine with the help of newton 1.5, and dbPro6.

so far the fire engine will only work on single objects.
i have yet to add:
* objects burn down and turn black-ish
* objects close to flamed object over a longer time start to burn
* player get hurt if standing too close to the flame
* after object is burned down, smoke appear.

yesterday i finished remodelling lvl1 and lvl2.
they are now implemented in eachother to save loading time.
and to get a little longer levels.

so today i have to place doors, lights, zombies, items etc.
then start on lvl2 (formerly lvl3)

i added a "door engine" today.
basically what it does is it checks for any doors in the level,
then if the player is close enough, and looking at the door, it will
be highlighted (pretty much like the button on lvl 3 by the elevator).
then if the player press action key, the door will open and close automaticaly.

what i have yet to add in the door engine is:
* locked doors which needs a key
* if its a wooden door, you can blast it down or burn it down

i dont think i will need that one. i have made changes to the game, given it a more detailed world and story.
so i have to remake all levels up to lvl4 to make them fit the updated background story.
but thanks anyway.

the flames? hmm wasn't really that hard:
2 textures, 5 ghosted planes and some math.

so far i have these "engines"
* fire engine
* door engine
* explosion engine (still need improvement)
* weapon engine
* change level
* simple zombie
* light engine (display closest light)
and i cant remember what else i got.

these engines are part of my "zombie hunter game engine" pretty cool name eh? which i will release to the community when the game is finished.

hello, here i have a video showing off the explosion, and how fire starts.

http://lukasw.com/downs/videos/zh18_test01.wmv ~ 4mb

then i have a video where the explosion sound effects are.
explosions that are in the distance are played with an echo-ish sound.
which is pretty cool

http://lukasw.com/downs/videos/zh18_test02.wmv ~ 2mb

Steve,
i dont know if you read that other post in the darkbasic forum,
but i think it would be better if you converted the songs to mp3 because my .ogg to .mp3 converter doesn't seem to be working quite well

in the upcoming demo i might not yet have finished the "custom controls" thingie, so what is the most common keyboard layout you use?

mine is:
WASD - move
space - jump
control - crouch
1-9 - weapon
mouse1 - fire
mouse2 - action
mouse4 (scroll wheel pressed) - reload

using my awesome modelling and texturing skills i created these models: a new pistol, and a new hand model.

next on my list is:
make new shotgun
make new machinegun
make new rocketlauncer (including rocket) (also need to code it so it functions together with the explosion engine)
make a flamethrower (needs a bit of coding first)

the new model and texture looks great and i love the explosion and burning effect though the fire seems a little slow

i just played the demo (1.7 thats the newist one out right?) its awsome the gore is really wicked but shooting just feels sorta empty it would be better if the screen shook or there was a little flash or a ripple where the bullets passed through the air or something so u can see that your shooting

I'd probably use this:

WASD - move
space - jump
control - crouch
1-9 or scroll wheel - weapon
mouse1 - fire
e - action
r - reload

things left to do until the next demo:
* finish the 3 levels (lvl 1 and 2 are weilded together, so it was 4 levels, now there's 3)
* make cutscenes (to tell the story)
* re-animate zombie (new model, new animations )
* add
Quote: "screen shook or there was a little flash or a ripple where the bullets passed through the air or something so u can see that your shooting"

* new and improved shotgun
* if i am in the mood, create customizable control thingie
* some more random stuff that i can't think of right now.

actually there are 2 versions of zombie hunter:
* v1.7 (survive mode)
* v1.8 (story mode)

i may just implement the survive mode into the story mode version of the game, just for fun.
and when i feel the game is done or almost done, perhaps i can start to think about multiplayer.

the most recent downloadable version of the game is v0.3 (http://lukasw.com/?page=zombiehunter2) - that is the story mode version.

now im going to add weapon animations, and what avenger said.

later

thanks. i still think i can improve the texture, but i know it will only be the same or worse

and i'm having trouble getting the animation done on the model: it wont open it in my 3d editor. and if i convert it the UV dissapear

what i've done today on the game:
* added few more sound effects
* added an intro
* new main menu
* attack with flashlight
* use flashlight to break grids so you can open new paths

yea, smack zombies with the flashlight.
also smack entities to break them. that way the levels could get puzzle -ish so you can try to break stuff and see if you can finish the level etc. could also be paths to hidden rooms and more.

here are two new screenshots of the new zombie model in-game.
i still have lots to do on the animation as you can see in the last picture. the last picture is also "smack zombies with the flashlight"

so far what i have done today is:
* idle zombie animation (needs improvement)
* zombie lost sight of player animation (needs improvement)
* zombie walk animation (needs a lot improvement)
* when player dies, there's an crappy cutscene. or i wouldn't call it cutscene. maybe just camera effect.
* and i have played too much oblivion today

im working today and tomorrow, then i go on a vacation to sweden from wednesday to sunday, then i have work again. so my scedule is tight.
i dont know how much i get to work on it, and there's always some small things that i want to change with the engine and stuff.
what will take the longest is finishing off the levels.

so i guess probably a month or so until a new demo.

i was just thinking about multiplayer, and i got a cool idea:
because i use TIAME to "make" the levels, wouldn't it be cool to make it so that the game support custom made levels aswell? then you get to make your own levels for multiplayer purposes. i think it's rather cool. and the game itself allready support that, all you need to know is the command the different entities must have in order for the game to recognize them. eg, a start point for the player is player_start_point. so its rather easy commands.
