Hey all,

Just been browsing, came across an online comic and thought "Hey, I could get into this..."

Since my internet costs have dropped quite dramatically since the start of the year, I figure that I can spend the money on browsing comics.

But... What's a good one?

Real Life seems alright, but that's about the only 'good' one that I've found so far.

Any suggestions?

Kinda scary coincidence - I've recently (As in THIS WEEK) been getting heavly into online comics aswell, and want to start one myself.

A few I found yesterday:

http://chugworth.com/comic.php

http://www.drewweing.com/journalcomic/?date=20020305

http://www.machall.com/

Love the graphical style of reallife.

Though for the latest one (and alot of previous ones) they seem to be re-using the same pose everytime. Kinda easy to make, but does the trick.

Maybe if we get lucky, the master Jonny Ree will drop by and give us some advice on starting up...

I'm going on the assumption by the way that you are already a hardcore reader of penny-arcade.com and there's not need for me to recommend it right?

p.s White Ninja is horrible.

Isn't there like Ctrl-Alt-Delete?

http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php

Something like that?

http://www.penny-arcade.com is absolutely hilarious, which almost everyone seems to love (except maybe the fans of http://www.pvponline.com/)
http://www.loserzcomic.com is alright, although it's mainly adult-based content despite the main characters being teenagers (although you can relate to most of them)

I've never really been a fan of Real-Life, PvP or VGCats, although a lot of people seem to like them.

[href]Concerned: The Half-Life And Death Of Gordon Frohman[/href] is a good one.
[href]Scribs[/href] is also funny.

It's not an ongoing one (hasn't been updated for a while) but Spiders is one I liked a lot. Not a cartoony one, mind you - one of those 'thought provoking' ones.

Pah.

Online comics suck. It's all about Powers.

---------

Having said that, just read the first Spiders and it was awesome. (But thought provoking? The first issue was basically just an regular action comic, no more thought provoking than Spider-man)

Been reading Spiders for ages.
It really is very, very good. I urge you all to read it.
Make sure you press F11 and use 1024x768.

Seeing as we're talking about comics, are you actually named after the Avenger-turned corpse-turned Avenger, Hawkeye?

The Spiders is a good story but the art isn't that good.
It looks like it was drawn on a computer.

Really nothing on Powers:

I like http://www.goaste.cx

They have the most random and hilarious flash and still image comics around. They even do Ricky Gervais movie remakes--- so funny

Couldn't find Ricky Gervais. The rest was pretty poor quality.

Oooh me too.

I used to do quite a lot of art. I'd draw it by hand and then colour it on the computer, came off pretty cool actually. I'll just try and dig some up.

The thing is, it's so much more fun writing the scripts than slogging out the pictures.

White Ninja has always been my favourite (anyone remember the boy in a jar one? heh...), although ctrl+alt+del is pretty good too.

Rats. All my regular comic links are on my laptop. Lets see if I can remember....

http://www.little-gamers.com/ is always a laugh, although http://yirmumah.net/ normally beats everything but white ninja for me.

One of my favourites that also mixes nicely with film reviews is http://www.digitalpimponline.com/strips.php?title=movie. Not bad that one. Along with http://www.theaterhopper.com/

Cheers

That's the style I would like to do. If you draw, I can ink/colour/shade it. Some stuff I done recently...

I like that muscle guy in your last strip. Can do something like that again?

I did a quick vectorising of your muscle guy to see the type of style we'll have (I'm aiming for a Penny-Arcade style as the CAD style just looks too plain)

I didn't spend alot of time on the gun, so excuse it's wierd shape.

I'm not good at cartoon style. My art is usually more like realism, so I appreciate good cartoonists, because I can't do it. You are a good cartoonist.

What program did you use?

And how easily/fast can you do it?

Also, do you mind vectorising this dude?

I wrote a single strip a while ago... Most people hated the art (I AM NOT AN GOOD ARTIST, How many times do I have to tell people that, haha) but found the "story" (which I didn't think it had either) pretty good.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/EricTomassetti/demo.jpg

Note, in panel 4, that is supposed to be Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, if your familiar with him, it makes it a bit funnier from what I hear...

Edit - Oh yeah, I forgot, the guy who has the horns, his name is Phil, he's a demon accountant from hell, and the guy dragging him away is his escort on our plane of existence, Father O'Rielly.

Hey Chris

I use Flash 8 for drawing

I do it fairly easy. About 10 minutes per drawing, so roughly 30 minutes per comic strip. I use a mouse, so once I get my tablet speed will increase x2.

Here's the vector:

Maybe we should leave some of the writing open to the community.
