I made this training level to teach non-FPSC users and n00bs how to play the games we create, though this was originally created for my sci-fi game, i thought you guys might like to see it, play it and comment on it. This might also be useful for other-peoples games so please post if it might be useful to you becuase you'll probably want to change the V/O (my voice) to your own

Download it here

3) Lastly, the level teaches you to move these boxes so you can get to the door quickly (quicker than pushing them around)

Avenging Eagle, this training level should help all people new to fps games. If no one has played half life 2, then your level should help them with physic use.

Yes, as long as you give me credit for making the level.

If you want to change to voice-over, you can do that too

Hope it helps

Do you mind if we use this to give away with Commercial Games as long as we give you credit?

No, you asked your game, assuming it will be free. I asked if we can use it with a commercial game.
Also,
AE, could you release the .fpm of this? It'd really help me out.
Thanks,
Tom

i'll be honest... i didn't expect much from this... from time to time i choose a game done by someone here, and download it to take a look... just to sorta gauge the state of progress with fpsc, and see what people are doing with it... most of these wind up being nothing more than a senseless series of too long unnecessary tunnels, populated with the stock models, with the basic ai bots trying either to kill you, or walk through a wall... a Basic Training tutorial on how to move around a fps level didn't really seem like it would be much of anything different...

but i decided to look at it anyways, and not to prejudge anything sight unseen... the last FPSC project that i thought had any real potential or creativity was Lon's Pencil Whipped...

your Basic Training demo is the second...

i found the short training level well done... well textured and well lit... the voice over was excellent... and the 'gameplay' kept me interested and engaged... a lil challenge in every room...

the only real flaw was in one of the first rooms you enter, the door slid up through the glass window... but aside from that, i actually enjoyed this... you've got the right formula for a successful engaging game... i think it's time you start work up a full multilevel game... with the intentions of selling it.

this was verrrrrry well done AE... a pleasant surprise...

thx for the demo

oh yeah, when i got near the end, in the area with the instructor dude talking, i shot through the window and killed him

one question... are you using bumpmapping as well as lightmapping, and if so, how long did it take for fpsc to produce the level?

thx

again... fun level...

Thank you very much for the comments and interest, i'm considering re-making it but a bit longer with a few more challenges.

Here's the fpm file...enjoy!

@Red Ocktoker: I'm actually making two games; one to sell, one free. They can be found here:

has this bug been reported already...

if you stack a smaller box atop another one, then climb atop to the topmost box... look down at it and pick it up (right click), you and the box you are standing on will start floating into the air...

try it in the last room of Basic Training...

Good question,

I have not seen that bug report anywhere as yet personally so it needs to go in the bug forum if its to have any chance of getting looked at. Sounds like its the kind of thing that would happen - who needs a jetpack - eh!

There are numerous Physics bugs that need attention and this could be looked at when TGC get around to them. My impression is that if somethings not in the Bug Forum it dont stand much chance of getting fixed - TGC are unlikey to search around stray posts looking for bug reports.

Red Ocktober,

You wanna post it there?

There are lots of bugs with FPSC but some can be cleverly hidden by the gameplay. I will make sure you don't have a chance to kill that instructor guy.

Any chance of hosting this somewhere else, or in Filefront? Savefile servers are damn slow for me, and I'd like to try this out.
