Hey people,

Many of you know that Kang was working on Quikly 3D Studio, and he had a website with a forum that a bunch of us pre-paid EAers were hanging out on while in waiting for the product. Well, we all started receiving the packages in the mail these last few weeks (overdue, but it's a really long story, not the fault of Kang), but basically due to the security restriction none of us are able to install it.

He hasn't appeared since around March 10th, that I remember, and his website says it will be reopened on March 20th--- and he took all of the pages and forums down. http://www.quikly.com

Anyone know him in person? Anyone know if he's okay? We tried emailing him to no avail, and it's uncharacteristic of him to leave us all with paperweights as he seemed like a really nice guy.

Well, there's been lots of suspicions around the Quikly launch, and I thought I would post this here as many of you oldbies know him better than us. So if you have any way of getting in touch with him please find out what's up. Thanks

Could have been a possible scam...?
Can anyone confirm that a working version was ever released eg. a demo?
Otherwise, the screenies may have been doctored to look real and Kangaroo could be on the run...

Or I could be paranoid as hell.

Yah, I don't think it was a scam, which is why I made this thread to shout out to any of his friends from here who might know him in person.

A scam theory is afoot, but I have the last EA release, and as it has been said before, he went to a lot of trouble to scam about 20 people.

The frustration of not knowing, is getting peoples backs up, I wondered if he found himself in financial strife, then if he got in touch, I may be able to offer a solution.

Sam has a problem, either with his server, or personal, I hope it's the first one.

Sam if you want to talk, email me, or PM me on my forum, I and many others will do our best to help, just let us know, any contact would be in the strictest confidence if you so chose.

Please note, we are concerned about an online friend, if you have nothing constructive to add to this thread, don't add anything at all.

My wife is not Japanese

And like was said before, let's keep this on topic. Just a simple email from Kang is all we need, and I'm sure that most of us will be totally cool with waiting however long it takes if there are heavy issues. I *really* don't see the problem being on the server, as there are dozens of ways to do an online downloader/updater. Oh well...

I am fairly shocked that anybody would even suggest he was scamming you.

I will email him tonight; I'm sure something has simply come up.

i never thought it was a scam, he went to a lot of trouble if it was, the last version i did use of Quikly was quite good, it had some decent vehicle physics, sketchy lightmapping and advanced terrain, its too much work to be a scam, i do hope he is ok though, i had said to Just One Old Man that i thought it might have been a typo on the main page, and that it was meant for the 30th and he is just a little bit late, you never know...

Maybe he's elbow deep in code.

Nobody ever do that?, just loose themselves in code for a few days?

It could be that Quickly is so 'on the brink' of being released that he's simply determined to get it done and out to the EA users, so he'd rather keep working than stop and make excuses. There's also the RC3 and advanced terrain factor, maybe he's having problems with the latest DBPro patch which are slowing him down.

I can definately see that as a possibility as I've been there myself a few times.

In fact gimme $5 on that being the reason.

Well, i think i know the reason, well for start, when i released HERE on the forums some much erelavant freeware addons for FPSC or such, i somethimes recived a LOT of mails concerning download not working, thanks and other things, so i can bearly imagen how much overflowed he is with mails and pm`s. For all my knowelege about him, he is a good guy, he helped me a lot on code theories, and many other things, he acted nothing but good, i think he just got a bit owerflowed or just tired of 60 mails every day... i would be.
(ok i said an number '60' witch i`m not sure that its correct, and might be hyperbolic, but i just wanted to describe what the problem is..)

I think he actually started a bit to early with Quikly, i mean he told people about it a bit early, becouse now he has his head codding non-stop, and all those mails doesnt help him at all.

We have our CD's, the final product, I don't understand why he would mail them out, then pull the plug on the download and not tell anyone.
Just before his site went down, he sent us emails, teling us that he was redesigning the site, never mensioning that there was a problem with Quikly.

Well all we can do now is wait, John Y managed to get his number and address and maybe someone can call him, or just send him a letter through the post. Maybe there is a completely unfortunate and logical reason for this and I hope he's fine, lets just keep this thread bumped with pointless chatter about it until someone can tell us

I don't know much about this situation.

What I will say, however, is that I've found that a lot of people who you try and do business with over the net turn out to be hopelessly unreliable. One of the so-called professional modellers who I paid to make various 3d models for me produced stuff: (1) outside the agreed deadlines; (2) which didn't comply with the detailed specifications which I gave him; and (3) which he tried to sell on Turbosquid.com as well (despite having agreed in writing that I'd have the copyright in the models).

Its very important that people realise that when they make a contract THEY ARE BOUND TO IT. If you make a bad bargain, or decide you can't be bothered to perform the contract, tough crap. Either perform it or you have to pay damages.

Its quite irksome to have to get medievael with these kind of people. Anyway, since then I've learnt my lesson. Now I only commission models from people who do this for a living for the major software houses. They are at least reliable and understand what a contract is.

Cheer if you like bears! Cheer if you like jam sandwiches!

Haha! Let him sell some then sue him for copyright infringement!! It would be especially nice if you release the game containing the model commercially, then nabbed him for infringement. Ah, the law is great when it's on your side...

might Waldo be with Guy Savoire,Elvis and Hitler?

Maybe Q3D was a clever ploy between them all to distract you all long enough while they plotted to rule the world, using the 20 sales from Q3D as funding

I hate to be negative here but, if i has been one month and no sign's of getting the software you purchased i would contact pay pal or whatever method of transaction you used (provided it wasn't cash or check) and see if they could resolve the matter.
I understand that there could be problems on the makers end since i believe it was a one man show, but one month without so much as a email explaining what is going seems ridiculous to me and is unacceptable. If it hasn't been a month since your since your funds where taken out of your account then i say wait at least one month before taking some sort of action. It's unfortunate that these things happen but they happen all the time.

That's what I was thinking of doing. I prepaid back in early February, for a February 14th release

I've had to have PayPal act on my behalf before when I ordered some Monty Python DVDs on Ebay and never received them. I would just *hate* to do this to Kang, as he was so cool when I emailed him a few times earlier on. Funny thing is he would email me back within 24 hours.

And I know I'm beating a dead tree here (is that the correct saying?) but I paid extra for quick shipping. Feel like I've been had.

The last time Kang had any contact with any of the paying Quikly members (that I know of) was February 28th, the date of his last blog entry.

I hate to be rude about this and all, but this means the software isn't done, right? Not trying to be a jerk, but the release date was February 14th, so...

I completely understand taking time off if a family member is sick, but this wasn't mentioned at all until now--- there was plenty of time before all of this for him to "turn on his server" or whatever needs to be done.

I can wait a week or two, but if the software is not dead, why has he not given it to the people who have paid?

But to be fair software and missed release dates almost go hand in hand. I'm sure Kang will explain all when he gets the chance. And about only taking 2 minutes to post a message. For all we know Kang's mum could live an hour or so away and not have access to the net. But I've not spent any money, so I obviously don't see it in the same light as those that have.
