G'Day Darth,
I was interested in the same thing, I thought maybe we could all get together down the top pub for a pigs ear (and a burger) some time. I've noticed the following forum users have stated their location as the Great Southern Land!

I hope I'm not infringing on anyones privacy by publishing this list!

Darth Vader - Hi you!
ObiWan - That's me.

[insert innocent Ausie joke bellow]

An Englishman wanted to become an Irishman, so he visited a doctor to find out how to go about this. "Well" said the doctor, "this is a very delicate operation and there is a lot that can go wrong. I will have to remove half your brain". "That's OK" said the Englishman. "I've always wanted to be Irish and I'm prepared to take the risk".

The operation went ahead but the Englishman woke to find a look of horror on the face of the doctor. "I'm so terribly sorry!!" the doctor said. "Instead of removing half the brain, I've taken the whole brain out". The patient replied, "No worries, mate!!"

HAHHA!!
Australians are cool, but ive noticed in my textbooks that whenever they have those maps with the 4 different shades of green on them stating w/e about population or crime rates or GDP per capita, australia and greenland are always labeled "Information not Available". I always picture a bunch of australians in a line saying something like "get your goddam census outta ere' mate!"

Since were talking stereotypes here, does anyone know what the statement "git-r-dun" means? Just curious to see if you get that in England/Aussie. No I dont have a country accent.

EDIT: I think ive been hanging around here too long, Ive picked up some british english. I called some guy a chav te other day... >,> none of my friends knew what that was. I asked alot of people too!

Its a stupid catchphrase by a comedian who uses being a redneck as his motif. He even has a movie (suprise). However, he's pretty funny the first time you hear him, because rednecks haven't been done before (except by Foxworthy, and he wasn't ever really funny to begin with)

I'm true-blue

Getting to the pub for a hang-out is a problem for all of us, though... The distances that we'd all have to travel to get to a central place would be rediculous ( unlike those attending the English Convention where you can get between the furthest points in two steps... )!

It'd definatly be fun, and I know when I last brought it up, a few ( Kev, Indi, etc ) were interested in getting together, but the logistics just wont allow for it

there isnt a measurable amount of crime in greenland due to the small pop, and there's so many criminals in australia its easier to count the number of people who aren't criminals

Darth, it's too hard... People have to come from Perth to the Eastern Coast, and then there's the issue of those in Queensland and Victoria... Where's the most central place? Etc, etc...

If you want to organize it, I'll definatly attend ( I'm in Bathurst, so only 4hrs (7 on the train) out of Canberra and Sydney )

Victoria or NSW would be the way to go. I mean ideally you would all get on jetstar and come to tassie and have it here in Launceston. Some great pubs here.

I'm moving to melbourne next year so it might become more of a show for me if we actually plan anything...

I think i'm the most southern dbpro user in Australia....

I'm in for anything on the lower East Coast.
NSW - ACT - VIC
SYD - CNB - MEL
I prefer SYD or CNB because I'm 3 or 4 hours from both.

I was in a rush my dinner was on the table, my dog farted and I got hypoxic, the Google blurb didn't mention Tassie & SA, there are no undesirables in Tassie & SA.... - Anyhoo, one of those is actually true!

Oh, man.

What I see here is people (Jess, greenlig, me and maybe Rpg Cyco) saying they're willing to travel to an Australian DB convention (for 5 DB users so far).

But not Darth Vader who wants us all to go to Adelaide.

Fine, I'll come to Adelaide. But is that fair for everyone, what about people in the top half of the country or in the West. (If there are any - speak up guys).

If you want to talk about somewhere central then let's all go to the Alice which is about as near (or as far from) everyone as we can get.

Mind you. If Darth Vader is going to go to all the trouble of setting this thing up himself, then maybe he should be using the Death Stars tractor beam to suck us all in to Adelaide. For this thing to work we're going to need a leader, what more iconic a leader could you ask for than one called Darth Vader...... just don't disagree with him! But really, I mean to say... If Darth Vader sets this thing up he is going to have to set it up in his home town simply for effective management.

However Darth, I think that if there is a DB convention for Aust then we should have as many people there as possible.

So. Lets say it's going to be a capital city for air travels sake.
And, assuming Greenlig is also fine with the ACT (it is within NSW).
Then by my count, so far we have ;
Adelaide - *
Sydney - ***
Canberra - ***
Melbourne - **

Sydney & Canberra are the faves, (YES, by a very slim margin).
Dave J and Rpg Cyco, where would you be willing to go?
There has got to be more of us out there, people please nominate a City if you're interested in this.

One last thing, Whatever City ends up hosting the thing maybe we should tie it in with the dates of the annual Computer Show there.

Melbourne preferably, but anything on the East Coast would be alright, e.g. Sydney or the Gold Coast. Not so favourable towards Brisbane because if I were to go, I'd probably drive up with some mates and we'd stay a few days.
