Hey!

Ok here lately I've been trying to finish up on my main Character Model. Now comes the fun part of adding hair. Unforunately I can't just use Sasquatch to make my hair photoreaslistic so I'm gonna have to use Polys... .

Whats the best way? I had some Ideas but I don't know how they measure up.

1. Is it best to create 'Helmet Hair"?
2. Just texture the top of the head like hair and Add 'blades' of hair?
http://silvermoonstudios.netfirms.com/Elyrius7.jpg

I've tried option 2 on my head model, but I'm not sure if it's the best way.

3. Hair!?!? Hair on game models!? HECK NO! All of my models are bald!!

How does everyone else make hair for there models? Please feel free it add to the list!

I like using helmet-like hair and real 3D shapes instead of plains.Especially since the plains don't have a nice shading.

Have a look at this girl's hair.

making hair all depends on the effect you're trying to achieve... sometimes its part of the model, sometimes its geoshapes, sometimes its plains, sometimes its anchor particles and sometimes its a Shader.

all depends on what is available to you and what you want to spend doing it.

If I remember right,
There is a Digimation plugin for hair.

Now this makes *real* hair, it's not very hard to use, but it's a trial verion only.

Try it out,you might like it.

Cheers.

Isnt that a plugin for 3dstudio max? The Lightwave equivalent is Sasquatch:

I don't believe either of them would help me out.

Thanks anyway.

Man

I did make hair!

They were wavy in the animations too.

Then my next step was to make a robe. I did that, then made her hair really long.(they actually were dragging on the floor).

Cheers.

THe digimation plugin is called shag hair sometimes refered to as "shag:Hair"
Shaghair cost $400 I think, but it makes good hair(individual strands.)

If I were you, I'd just make an opacity map for your hair, and put a morph target on it.

also:

if you know how to make good uvw maps, you can texture the top of the head as a hair texture, then add planes in a proper fashion, then place their uv data on top of the uvw mapped hair. Or, just make them seperate so you can apply a nice opacity map to them, don't use plugins because I don't think they export to db or dbpro like they should.

If any one has used clothsimmod for max 5 can you tell me if it exports to db dbpro?

ToiletFreak :

Dont worry about Shag..I'm a strict LW junkie. goto [href]Worley.com [/href]
to get a glimpse of Sasquatch...thats my 'Cinema' Toy.

EnchantisoftStudios:

Hehe, ya got me. I've decided to use a system similar to that...the top of the head will be textured like hair, then I will have sevarval retangluar strands coming down from the head, all UV mapped.

LLX:

Shoot yes boys!!I've got Lightwave and no girlfriend...(she said she was gonna wait til she was 18..... ...) so I have free time.
