Uh, he or she hasnt responded in a few days. He or she said that he/she would post the next day, right? At least that is what i understand.

Um, about the virysy demo, does any one here have virus protection, because i dont, and now i am afraid to download such a thing. Considering i am suffering from some sort of a worm/virus/bug/keylogger/spyware stuff. That sucks, and i am way too cheap to get some sort of a virus protection.

Anyways, I am about to look at the images, and i might edit this post for additional comments.

[EDIT] Well, i wont lie, i will be honest. Whats the big deal about the level? The most interesting thing i saw was what i think was a gun, and the dust effect. The dust effect i would assume to be a .fx file or a bunch of particles. I could make that in Wings3D then take the time to add in effects, and texture limbs. I dont see the big deal here. (Looks like a good game though, damn i wish my XP worked, or i had a Vista Ultimate Edition)

Does anyone else notice that the health bar not only moves position in the screenshots, but that in the video, it's more of a 3D rectangle, not a 2D sprite?

if this is a scam, which i think it probably is
what the hell is he getting out of it?
does he come home everynight and check this and then roll around on the floor laughing his sad ass off
or is he really really desparate for attention that he has to take time faking screenshots so people will think he's a good programmer. maybe if he put as much effort into actually writing a game than he does faking shots, then he could make it.

either way, he needs help.

if this does turn out to be real, then ignore this, i'm just taking it from the point of view that it's not

Well there's an easy way to check if it's his or not...

Sameer7 - if you want to show it is yours can you post a screenshot of the player with the purple gun as in this pic attached, with the camera/player right up next to the wall so the picture of the bloke on the wall is filling up as much of the screen as possible.

Should be no problem - then I'll believe you

yup, looks fake to me. I retract every statement i made (except for my ability to make it in wings 3d, and my wanting my winxp to work, or getting a Vista Ultimate edition).

The healthbar changing positions? hmm... That sure is odd. If i did something like this, i would at least make sure it was at the right coordinates (which can be done with mspaint). And besides that, the dude hasnt even responded for, what, 4 days now? 5 days maybe?

The mods should lock this up. (just a thought)

In the vid the bar was a 3d object and didn't stay in one place , but of course it's fake!! I mean, how many newbs here give this much info on their games? Just because he's given us every screen we've asked for, and even the vid we wanted, he must STILL be making SOMETHING up. I mean, it's REALLY suspitious that when someone asked what he made the level it he asked why they wanted to know... That was mostly sarcasm, just so you know...

I think we're all just wondering what he made his levels with. As Cash said, its a perfectly reasonable question and hasn't been shoved down his throat and is simple enough that you should have no problem discussing in a programming community the type of level creators/modellers you use. I personally prefer MS3D for my levels. That was an easy question for me to answer. Why not for him?

its fairly obvious he isnt around at the moment, and may not be for a bit, so why keep asking? I personally think he is being a little noobish, and yer, who wouldnt answer that question? But complaining that this should be locked is just funny. If you dont want it here, don't post in it! it will die eventualy.

Sorry if we've sniffed out a possible scam. Being programmers/media creators, we have something of a tendency to get upset with people who rip off the work of others, and there's suspicion of that happening.

That is exactly what's going on here. It's possible it's not true, but he could simply answer the question. If he made that game, he should be proud. I'm very proud of my work, and I will tell anyone who asks how I did it. Game makers take special exception to people that claim work that is not theirs, and so far it appears that this is the case. I hope it's not, but I suppose there's no real way to know. The point, as it is, is legitimate, though perhaps over spammed.

uh, he did on the last page...

I think he just was asking why we wanted to know, and would have given an answer if he had stayed on the forums longer. But considering he left very soon after asking why, it's understandable that he hasn't reponded. Also, he may have just made the level out of primitives or something, and is too embarassed to say so...

Sorry, but I don't think him not answering a question right away warents all this spam... we should stop posting here until he comes back, and THEN ask him.

You know the funny thing is, if you read the last thread, you'll see the strange way that this whole thing started. First you said it was too impressive for db before changing your mind and saying it could have been done better in db and then deciding he'd faked the whole thing for no apparent reason and getting his thread locked out of suspicion. Seems a bit stupidly shallow to me. If you guys didnt flame so much this would have dropped off the page until he'd coughed up a demo but now it's flying up to the top and agrivating me every time i open up the wip page.

An explanation for his hud floating around in pictures is poor coding (they might be plains locked to the screen with custom code that doesn't totally work yet?). His graphics look bad, so therefore its very possible this was done in DBP. He didn't actually steal anything from anyone except for that hud images and the title Quake 5. Why does everyone think this is fake. I'd attribute his lack of posting anything about what you guys ask to being frustrated at your disbelief, and also hes probably foreign and from some other country and doesn't speak english too well.

... I still don't see what you guys say he is ripping off aside from hud images, and a title...

looks fake to me... he could have easily just taken other peoples models, put them in his game, posititoned the objects, taken a screenshot ect...

and that enemy is just a textured cube by the looks of it...

if he reall is making a game he should at least make up an original name for it

I'm not oging to get into the whole "Is it fake? Isn't it fake?" thing. But I feel the urge to point out...

Quote: "and that enemy is just a textured cube by the looks of it..."

An awful lot of people here use simple objects as place holders when they start a new project. It means they can get a lot of the coding done before having to worry about the media side of things.

Are you seriously suggesting the fact it's called Quake 5 is a reason for this to be fake?

well, thats true, i do too... its just that, he textured it as the image of a creature which makes it look cheesy, thats all

Quote: "Are you seriously suggesting the fact it's called Quake 5 is a reason for this to be fake?"

of course. someone making a fake game wouldnt care to spend the time making an original name; especially since people have told him over and over again that he should change the name but he refuses

No, I could just as easily call a faked game "Swiss Cheese". That is no grounds to say this is faked lol. I have wanted to make "sequels" to games before, he just simply shouldn't call it quake 5, he should make up a name for it. And whats to say those aren't his models? I think if he was gonna fake something he'd do a good job on it. I would. Those are simply not convincing. In fact it makes his project look even less faked to me. The only suspicious thing I could see in the screenshots he provided (didn't watch the video) was the pearly looking spheres on that one gun.

@Agent Dink, I'm not directing this at you, but at the everyone who keeps this thread alive even when the creator isn't posting updates.

@All, Look, we've pretty much eliminated that he's faking. If he "borrowed" any media from another game or anything, who cares? I mean, there are games all over the place here where people use media from other games. As long as he doesn't sell this, the only thing he's doing wrong is calling the game Quake 5. if he called it Quake 5: The Fan Game Version or something, He'd be fine as far as I'm concerned. And I'm getting kind of annoyed that a thread like this is getting more attention than the games here with lots of progress.

How about we all keep our big fat mouths shut until he posts here again, Hmm? Please. There's nothing anyone here can add to this until he comes back. If you have a point to make, make it then, not now.

ya, but u wouldnt call a game Swiss Cheese unless u were serious... if he IS faking it, he would just make up a quick name('oh. ive played quake 4, y not quake 5') so, he should put a lot of thought into making a name that is serious...

and hes so protective of what he made the level with. if people are interested in that kind of stuff, you just tell them. you dont hide it and say "y do u wanna know!?". its very suspicious to me.

Why suspicious? you can't obligate him to say.

I've seen hundreds of threads with wannabe-games, but what about it? if he's learning then it's no problem. Does it affect you all? Don't think so. Does it affects ID Software? Don't think so - it's not even a finished fan game for God's sake! I used to use graphics of other games in my MS-DOS game programming days, and some models grabbed free from Turbosquid, 3D Cafe and other places sometimes, so what's the big deal?

I just saw the video... looks fairly decent... to be honest, since I got my new video card I've been wanting to use the new stuff in DBPro - that including shaders & water effects - so grabbing a .fx file for use in DBPro and make my water all shiney and wavey won't be a problem, right? at least I don't think so...

If it's a RIP, then report him or let him be, he's learning at least (I hope, you gotta be real DUMB for not learning anything even when ripping something... I learned a LOT way back when making a Rebel Assault-type game, just for the heck of it, and I'm still using the same stuff I learned back then, so...), and if he doesn't appears, and/or creates another thread about it, then let him be on the hands of the mods...

All looks quite basic at the moment, to me atleast.
Obviously some 'borrowing' of Quake4 resources, but other than that it shows some promise.

Locking this, not sure what the originator has planned, but it's not being updated, just attracting flies.

If Sameer reads this:
Dude, this is supposed to be a WIP thread, not a 'here's 2 botched screenies now scram' thread, if you want to make a fresh thread (again), please ensure you have lots to discuss and show, a gameplay video would quieten a lot of doubters too, worth considering if you can - but the important thing is to keep active in the thread, otherwise people will assume you've abandoned it.
