Help! I bought FPSC a week ago and have been successfully making a level, which I then build to see what it will look like with my title screens etc. All with no problems. Then today, after a few changes (which I can't remember everything I added, because I looked all over my level map) I tried to build it and got "Error 506 can't load image at line 11037" How do I read line 11037? I have to look at it to see what image its talking about. I went back and removed everything from the level which I'd added today, but something is offending it, with far less entities in the level and less tga huds added as text by me, I get that error now when I try to build. I have at least 2.5 gigs of hard drive free and use a gig of on board memory. Any ideas? Is there an .fpe extention scriptreader out there so I can see line 11037? I think if I just leave out this one image it will work again. Id hate to lose this nice level with its puzzles after a week of work.

You say there is not line 11037? I'll build again and write down the error message line for line.

I don't understand. What do you mean costum work?

Well, that is the message. "Runtime error 506 can not load image at line 11037"

I got the error after I added a large sign I made in Magic FPS, and assigned decal to. That worked before. But I've even removed that sign object, and a couple of other sign entities I made in MagicFPS. Should I reinstall FPSC? Ive been uning the download install but the cd came.

First I'm going to try removing one of the rooms from the level. I'm waiting your ideas. I also turned off dynamic lights and set the textures to medium resolution to see it that would help. Everything was running so beautifully before. if by Costum you mean custom scripts, yes, only simple fpi's for displaying TGAs as popup texts, and they work too.

There is a line 11037,
BUT not in the .fpe

in the FPSC source there is.So its an error with one of your models.

indeed it might help to reinstall.

OR rebuild the level...

Thank you for commenting. I also decided it was best to start over. I cleaned out Gigabytes of hard drive space by deleting saved porn movies and useless files, then rebooted and reinstalled FPSC from the CD. I thought rebuilding the level makes sense because I didn't know as much when I started, so I'll redesign it using less active and more static entities. Also, I'll do what any scientist should, keep a log. Each time I add something I'll make a note. Then when I do the builds, if it crashes i'll know what to remove. Also, I can save working builds under another name so I can go back to them.
Thank you for your help.

Forget about the error message and what it means technically.

If you get these kind of errors dont go doing drastic stuff until you look for the easy solution.

If when level building FPSC returns runtime error messages of the kind you mention in this instance. i.e. it cant find an image.

Then when such errors occur stop what you are doing immediately and think logically what were the last things you did and undo them. If it worked previously then it should after undoing your last moves.

In the case of a missing image FPSC cant find it either due to an incorrect reference, location or spelling error in file name or script references. Correct the error and the message will go away.

The morale of the story is - develop carefully, test often - very often and always try to get around as much or all of your level at every test run to make sure all is in order - that way you can discover quickly when something has gone wrong and stand a better chance of isolating an error quickly.

Dont forget to make backups and copies of your level work - make sense?

You wont get much of a result with FPSC unless you follow tight guidlines when developing and think with a cool head and think logically when things go wrong.

Panicking is the last resort - if you must panic.

Thanks, yes, sometimes I do too many changes between testing, The engine has really really been working so smoothly, I thought it was invulnerable! I did reinstall FPSC, and it turns out it wasn't necessary. When I got to a point in recreating my level I found the bug, or the image that gave that error. It was a TGA. I noticed I had stored it in gamecore/text, and there's that infamous thing where it doesn't really refer to where it would seem like that directory is. I had made a text directory in gamecore precisely to store my own text tgas. So I renamed that directory usertext. Strangely that had never created a problem before, as I had store tgas in my own user created text directory and they always shown fine. (2) also, I noticed that tga was an odd size, with the x not divisible by 2. So i resized it to an even 256 pixels across, just a couple of pixels larger. I don't know which cure fixed it, but the next time I built the tga triggered just fine. The engine itself rules.

I bet it was the image size one that fixed it. If a number isn't a power of two, strange things happen. OMG! Ninja Cofee!
