Hi all,

Issue 40 of the TGC newsletter is out.

There is another sneak peek at Dark Physics, with some example source code + a shot of the documentation you'll get with it. Upgrade 6 is (as most of you know) now officially out, but we spend a few lines talking about what comes next, plus preview the new help file format.

There are two uber tutorials from Steve and Grant. Steve concludes his HUD tutorial, and Grant kicks off a 3D Arcade Environments series. Throw in a healthy dollop of FPSC news, PlayBasic happenings, Forum chatter and related pieces and you have the May issue,

http://www.thegamecreators.com/data/newsletter/newsletter_issue_40.html

Cheers,

Rich

(Sorry Cash, thanks for the post you made, but I prefer to do these)

We are still deciding (upon a printed magazine). The numbers have to be right, it is a quite expensive project to undertake if you go at it properly. Still not resolved the issue of distribution either, are looking at PoD solutions.

I'd hardly call 2 weeks before dev starts as 'humungous'.

The problem is that we all know that 2 software development weeks never, ever equal 14 earth days. Not by a long shot. I should know, I'm a developer...

I said 2 weeks before development starts. It can't start until Lee is back - and when you're on a (well deserved) holiday, holiday weeks always equal normal weeks.

Ahhh. In the newsletter it sounded as if DGDK wasn´t going to be worked on until the DarkAI and DarkPhisics parks are released. If it will be started on when Lee gets back that´ll be great.
P.S Just thought. Why didn´t Lee take his holiday in a weeks time and go see E3? That´s what I would do...

I cant understand why everyone cries alot about that DGDK. It is a side project like FPSCreator and it will be always left behind DBP for a short period of time. If you dont want to wait stick with DBP. That just my opinion. Developers cant work on 2 big projects seamlesly...

I hate people complaining, as thru my life I always did all my self. Dont like SDK get something different, as you can see everyone here at TGC is busy working on latest releases so you should be patient and not rush the party.

Yeah, right. I hate people complaining, but I also hate to pay the double and get half the support.

I also claim for the DGSDK update. I'm more than disappointed.

Myself being a notable exception to the fact. That's right, I'm gloating.

I must say though, excluding the fact that I find the text to be a little too large for my liking, I definitely prefer this format to the older ones. Good show.

It's too late for this after you have paid for the product, isn't it?

Quote: "I hate people complaining, as thru my life I always did all my self."

So you're suggesting that, after buying dgsdk, a person should just buy DBPro and code a complete wrapper to call it from C++ so as to not complain? That is the only way I can see one could apply the "do it all yourself" approach.

I find this reasoning... well, I won't even comment really.

Ironically, that's how the entire concept came about. TCA/Stinky Stoat/Flappy Frog wrote a wrapper himself and then was asked to remove it when TGC created DSDK.

No he didn't, and no he wasn't. This is like a forum urban legend or something.

Even the true author (IanM) will attest to the fact he removed it of his own doing, and no other reason.

The new format help looks very nice and more complete. I'm impatient to see it. And thanks to TGC for this great 6.0 upgrade.

DarkAI seems to be very interesting.

I'm not entirely sure why you always choose to deny this.

Yes, he chose to remove it himself but as I did say, he was 'asked'. As far as the legalities go, it's irrelevent (although Philip claims IanM wasn't breaching anything). Either way, let's not play these games anymore, it's all in the past - no one cares anymore anyway.

OOooo... nothing like a good convoluted yarn like this to keep the crowd interested.

Incidently, wrapping a publicly-known API, as far as I know, is not reverse engineering: It may be illegal if it goes against the usage licence, but it's not reverse engineering in the strict sense...

Darth, he's a mod so he has extra functions. You'll also notice the IP address, but he's deleted the "send army of Palestinian Liberation Army troops to destroy user" button from the screenshot.

No thats the "send army of Palestinian Liberation Army troops to destroy user" box. The multiple delete boxes are the furry red ones with blue centers which is removed accidently with the IP blurring.

No, the tick boxes are used for multiple post deleting and the "send army of Palestinian Liberation Army troops to destroy user" function.

There's a set of controls down the bottom where you specify which you want to do.
