It's done, my game is finished. It's called The Commander Josh Chronicles - Book 1: The Mars Adventure. The working title was The Mars take-over.

I've prepared a website for it and moved all of my stuff to it, you can find it at http://www.gamefun4u.nl, here's the direct link to the game also http://www.gamefun4u.nl/page9.html.

On the website you find a demo of the game, screenshots and a divX video of the game.

I'll attach a few more screenshots to this thread.

Even though you can read the story and info on the game at the website, here's some more background info.

The full game has 12 missions, some of the missions have been divided over more then 1 level, to assure good playability. As you can see in the first screenshot, I've divided the game into 3 chapters and create a menu launcher for it. If you fail a mission, you will not have to play all of the levels again.

The levels range from pure shooting fun to rescueing a teammate, breaking a secret code, collecting items and so on.

All of the levels except for one, do use new segments, I've avoided using stock segments as much as possible. Also a lot of the doors are new, new guns and new enemies. A lot of the items in the game are new also, but a used stock switches and items also.

The game relies heavily on scripts created by me, I've rewritten most of the enemy scripts to ensure more aggressive and better responding enemies. Some more scripts created are different light settings at different floors. For example if you walk outside the light will be bright, as soon as you go inside the light will become much darker. Another script created was the break the code script. In the game you do need to collect a code and unlock a room with it. Same code is also used to lock the chapters, you need to play chapter 1, before you can unlock chapter 2 and so on.

I'm very content with the way the game turned out and I'll hope you like the screens, demo and video.

Unfortunally for some of you, the game is not free, I did put a lot of hours into the game. Also I needed to invest in it to get it as good as possible. But I'm not asking $$$$ for it, kept the price as low as possible.

So, if you're curious what a completely original FPSC game looks like, check it out.

I'm looking for a publisher to distribute the game for me, thy haven't contacted me back yet, I'm considering cotacting some more also.

Have fun checking ouy my new website and game!

EDIT: The game got accepted at www.download.com or C/NET, ZDNET or which ever one is most known to you. I'm honered by that and quite some people have downloaded it there already. http://www.download.com/3000-7453-10534290.html that's the direct link.

I just watched the video. WOW! It looks like a great game. You did great work on this. I will try it out when I get a chance.

If you didn't use the segments for your buildings what did you use? I have 3d world studio but you can only put those models in as entities. Do those work as level geometry as good as segments?

Watched the video and think this is very well done!

Looks like good level design and placement of all the media. The enemies look a bit weird, however, when they slide backward after getting killed, and when they shuffle from side to side in an attempt to get out of the way of your water pistol. (Is there perhaps some other AI script to use?)

But other than that, looks great and congrats on releasing a full game. All the best!

Thanks everyone for the comments!

I thought that looked really cool The effect depends on the watergun being used, so all of them do have some distinguished features.

Quote: "If you didn't use the segments for your buildings what did you use?"

I did use segments, I just redid most of them and tried to avoid using the ones that come with FPSC. I did try level geometry also, but that just doesn't work well.

None of the two, those who play the full game will be able to figure out what it is.

Quote: "Pretty cool! I know You courld buy those enemys here before, but who sold them? I dont remeber Im afraid..."

Thanks! You can still get them at http://www.murkymedia.com/actorpack01.html I'm terrible at modeling characters, so these were a great solution to my problem. The rest of the models I can do, like the spaceships, vehicles and other items needed.

I only needed to re-animate the models for all of the loading screens, since TrueSpace 6.6 doesn't import animated .x files, only the default position. But putting bones in them and animating them isn't a problem for me, it's just creating the characters which I don't seem to able to master.

K Jah, thanks for the bump!!!!

Nothing. Is. Better. Than. Half-Life. (Shoots S.C. in the kneecaps with a grenade launcher then rips out her hair)

But great game anyhow. Funny, using water guns to kill people.

Give a man some bullets, and he'll want a gun. Give a man a gun and he'll be giving away the bullets!!

Thanks for all of the comments! Please don't get into a half life is better or not discussion, that is so irrelevant.

I'm not trying to create the next half life, as if you even could with FPSC..... just wanted a fun game with a twist to it and imo I've succeeded in doing so.

Hey Ben, the game looks amazing. It's great to see a fully original game that has never been done before made with FPSC. I have one question. In the screenshots, you have a picture of a menu that says chapter 1, chapter 2, etc. How did you create that menu? I am working on a game and would like the player to be able to choose a chapter to play. Tell me here or if you want, you can email me at Tiger37BMX@adelphia.net

Once again, the game looks awesome.

Thanks! The menu has been created with an external application, don't want to advertise it here, not sure if that's allowed.

If you download the demo, you can already see the menu in action also.

dennisb, there's another level in the demo also. First pick up the gun and all the ammo. Should all of the targets with the XXX onit. Next find the switch and enter the spaceship. If you're at the spaceship just walk to it until you're very close and then the next level starts. If that doesn't happen you have missed a target. Find it and shoot it and you'll go to the next level. This demo has been played an tested 100's of times without a problem, so you've just must have missed a target.

Try again, because the level after the training is much more impressive!

K Jah can I qoute you also on my website?

Ben,
Cool demo. The lighting, the music, the concept is all killer. The unique concept makes it a game even younger children can play. From what I saw you took a game from a possible "M" rating (which is what most FPSC games should probably be rated at but that is a discussion for another time) to a game little kids can play.I am not saying that in a bad way.You have taken a lot of the gore out of FPSC and left the fun in it.
Excellent job and excellent concept. This is the best FPSC game I have played thus far.
I give it a out of .
Keep up the good work!

Thanks! As you know I do appreciatte your opinion and seeing the way you described the demo, I actually have managed to achieve my goals

Quote: "Keep up the good work! "

I will.... I'm working on a 2D platform game at the moment (not made with FPSC), I'll present WIP screenshots of that project this week.

After the Platform game is finished, I'm going to work on a new FPSC game. It's concept is even beyond Commander Josh and I'm hoping to create something that will show people that FPSC can be used for other games then first person shooters only. I did run some tests for the game and to my suprise they worked well, so it will be my next FPSC project. But it will take a while before I'm able to show the concept. Pobably not until the game is finished, rather not have someone else running of with the concept before I'm done.

That happened to me once before and I didn't like it at all.

You're welcome. It is refreshing to play something that is not a horror or (God forbid) a WWII game. Not that those aren't fun.Like I said it is a unique concept.I think this is a fine example of what FPSC users should aspire to when making their games.Once again I commend you for a job well done!
