I've finally started getting down to work with my next model pack, which will be all characters and weapons (I think). This mesh will be the basis for 2 female NPC's. As it is shown here she will be some type of clerk/attendant type character.

It will also serve as a base mesh for a nurse character. Not some modern day nurse, oh no. She will be a sexy old-school nurse, when nurses were NURSES. I'll probably exaggerated her, emm, femininity for the nurse version. Maybe a plunging neckline to show a little cleavage, longer legs, etc...

Also if there are any specific requests for characters (or weapons), now is time to let me know, as I will be working on these in the coming months...

a rocket launcher *that has the stream from the bullet*
A COMBAT KNIFE
maybe some melee weapons
like
a crowbar
a wrench
stuff like that

urban and iraqie weapons

I'm already planning to make a cop/security guard.

And definitely animated melee weapons, throwing knives, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming.

Female NPC's!

Finally Aiko can have a rest.

My suggestion would be to include a version with trousers/jeans instead of a skirt.

Cheers

Trousered female, ok I can do that. Yes females are long overdue.

This pack will be all characters and weapons, no static type entities. The lack of new characters and weapons was the number one complaint with the last model pack. So this will be the focus this time around.

Speaking of Aiko, I've just been wondering. Why does she have knee pads? Just.... think about it. No answers please.

Yes, female characters would be great. Just.... no more knee pads.

Really.... don't answer.

To be honest I hadn't thought of that, but I like the idea, thank you. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Yeah Model PAck 1 has great looking swat memmbers. So any type of law enforcement I do for this pack will be your average cop/security guard type model. Hey how about a sexy female cop? Sorry, I'm on a female kick I guess, the female form is so much more fun to model than a dude...

@Liz
Not to insult you Liz, but isnt your game just silent hill, but a spanish version? I recall the name of your game being the city's name in spanish. Also having the same monsters as silent hill might get you in trouble.

@Mark
Mark, did you take up some ones way of character modelling, or did you design your own way?

There has been countless requests on this board for an AK47 in the past, so one would seem like a good idea I'd say.
As long as there's a female model generic enough to reskin to endless possibilities, that would be great.

I have one major request: the same animation movements in all the models has gotten repetitive; would it be too much to ask to have some more variation? Maybe slightly different positions with holding weapons, or death sequences with bodies lying on their sides, or falling in unsual poses....?

not realy higgins well most people say that i can use nurses they cant say i cant thats no there word or property to say they can only use that. Some of it is in spanish cause mostly the characters are Latino/Hispanic white and african/american the mosters are not the same but the people of the city are pozzesed Exorsist inside of them demons that are cotroling them that try to kill you so like zombies but smart. the nurses do moan and breath heavy but not the same just diffrent.

Most horror games are used to much were theres not room for another cause zombies are over used and mosters cause theres too many zombie games RE is the best of them Silent hill is the best of monsters

Higgins is right about the AK47 models. At least two of them are FPSC ready I believe. While the Silent Hill is an excellent survival horror franchise I have to disagree about monsters. If you have played Resident Evil 4 you know what I mean. But that is just my opinion.
Higgins might be right about another thing. It seems the game you are making is a Silent Hill clone. There's nothing wrong with that in my view but that's ALL you ever talk about.
Some of that post I just couldn't understand.Maybe I am an idiot.
I'm with Higgins about the swimsuit models.
Bond,you're doing an excellent job.

I guess I have my own "hybrid" way. I've watched endless tutorials, bought tons of training DVD's, and books including Paul Steed's book "Modelling a Character in 3ds Max" (which I found pretty useless), but hey it works for him...

The only way to really learn is to practice and develop a way that makes sense to you. I read somewhere that the ONLY thing that counts is the end result, so I always keep this in mind while trying out new ways of doing things.

I generally start out with an 8 sided cylinder for characters, and start scaling and rotating cross sections, and maybe defining some simple edge loops, to build the general shape. Then I get my hands dirty and start adding in detail with max's editable poly tools. The head is modelled separately (starting with a box) and later grafted onto the body.

@ak47000: Well, for one, I plan on making these new characters right-handed (all the FPSC characters now are left-handed!). I might alter the animations a bit, but its difficult because each animation is dependent on another. So its hard to alter one without having to redo the whole flippin thing. But I might add a few little tweaks, depending on how much time I have.

@I Has Returned: You're right about Resident Evil 4, wow what a game. I'll never forget the first time I encountered "El Gigante".

Thanks again for the suggestions, this is helpful.

Well i has returned its not realy a silent hill clone just a game simular to it cause simular detail like a survivor nurse as lisa a demonic child/demon alyssa/cherly, Dogeing a rollercoaster SH3 cybil dies at carousel, Maria and her personality and the religius belifes in the game...

...are the same as LN but diffrent plots.

Excellent work, can't wait for the pack!
I think my request would have to be for more Zombies,or at least some evil looking npc's that you could spend your time wasting.
As fasr as the themeset for the pack is concerned, doing it all on one theme(modern)is cool, but maybe adding in a couple of 'once-offs'for diversity would also broaden the options we have available.
Keep up the excellent work!

Conner, good things come to those who wait (and ask often enough)

Still needs UV mapping and texturing obviously, then animating... actually at the speed I go, bond will probably have already released his model pack before I have this ready to give away , but I just thought you might like to know there's a P90 somewhere in FPSC's future.

Even if it's the distant future.

(Apologies to bond for thread hijacking)

Cheers

If they're good quality, I've got no problem paying for them at all.

I was thinking of suggesting that too, but I wasnt sure how different it would seem from the male soldier....there would need to be overemphasis on the hourglass shape or something, especially if she's wearing gear and a gas mask....

Who likes redheads? I'll dress her in different outfits, and give her a different face and haircolor for variety. Nice and lowpoly too, under 1500 faces.

JimB, that's triangles, although I modelled using quads whenever possible. Here's a wireframe view showing all edges. Acutally, she clocks in at 1502 tris. Not too shabby considering her womanly curves, lol.

She's looking good, the work seems to get along fine and progressing well! But I think the face could be a slightly better and a bit more friendly perhaps Also the texture on the arms doesn't seem as well done as the texture on the legs. I would also smoothen the transitions between textures on certain body parts. You can clearly see lines on the transition between arm and hand, ancles and leg and head and neck. The last one may be shadows though.

Quote: "Hey ben! Hypothetically, how much would you pay for the women characters? (I feel like a digital pimp) "

That really depends on the quality. I've got the FPSC Model Pack #1 and it's got some excellent models in. I've also got murkumedia's actor pack and that quality is awesome. I wouldn't have a problem with paying $20 for 6-8 good quality models. With good quality I mean it needs to match the quality of Model Pack #1 and Murkymedia's actor pack.

Why you want to know?

Hehe, I definitely wasn't going for the "innocent schoolgirl" look...but yeah the expression might be a little bit too neutral...I think by just upturning the corners of the mouth slightly will give a much friendlier expression. We'll see though, I kinda like her as she is now.

Yeah I have to smooth that arm texture a bit on the front. But remember Benjamin, that this is a render from 3ds max. I was careful to hide seams, the most obvious one being on the back side of the wrists, which would be almost impossible to spot "in-game", especially on an animated model. But I'll try and blend that seam a little better. Thanks for the feedback.

She looks like someone I wouldnt mind shooting.

Are you going to put her in a model pack?
