EZEC is an interactive FPSC model importer. Take the guessing and checking out of importing your entities into FPSC. With EZEC you can customize your model's orientation and properties quickly and efficiently. You can view your changes in a real time editor then when you're finished EZEC writes the entire FPE file for you. However you can as always access this file at anytime with Notepad to make changes. Well, I guess you've heard enough so here's a screenie:

OK, this is not a to be taken as flaming but some constructive critisism.

First of all, we already do have a good selection of these kind of applications/add-ons, so what makes your differently? Why should we need yours instead of the other (good ones) we already do have?

Secondly, animation? All of the current ones are for static entities only. Will yours do animated ones also?

Thridly, which file formats will it support?

Just for your info.... I do not own or use any of the other entity creators. I always do my importing by hand. That simply is the fastest and most efficient. Once you figure out your scaling, you can much quicker open an original .fpe file and edit it for the new model. I've tried the entity creators, but it takes as much time to only locate my model, as writing the .fpe file by hand.

I just love how these guys advertise it as if you can't live without them, but actually their very time consuming to use. Most funny thing I do find is, not only are you loosing a lot of time, but also money.

So perhaps you can break the mold and give us a truly time efficient and usefull entity creator?

These are very good questions.You are aware that there are at least two free entity importers...the free one available on the FPSC downloads page and I think Dodic has one,too.I don't remember exactly where to find it.though.
So I am wondering about price,when it will be finished,and what your app brings to the table that the others don't.
I am looking forward to seeing this project progress.

People dont like competition, so they get pissed off and moan at you, every one is the same. You do some thing good, and some one comes along with some thing the same.

That can be true.Stealing or copying something is a lot easier than creating something.Sometimes it is not,though.Take Signs II or III and Magic FPS.They are similar in a lot of ways but different in others.And while I am not the greatest modeler in the world I can safely say for the most part my models are like no one else's... which may be a good or bad thing.
Competiton does bring out the best and worst in people.If you have only one person making a product they might not have the incentive to create something high quality or give good support,etc.If someone knows someone else is making a similar product they will go out of their way to make something unique and that will stand out from the rest.
But,as Higgins said,competition can get ugly.Some people will lie,cheat,steal and sell their own mother to win.Those people have to live with themselves.That is their punishment.
I think Duke has been around long enough to know how it works. Although I disagree with some of it if you put crap you can get flamed.That is just the way it is.
I am looking forward to seeing what he does with this project.We all have something in FPSC we are good at and we need the help of others to accomplish what we cannot.
Duke has made some nice looking models therefore I believe this is not beyond him to do.
Besides,I like new apps.Gives me new toys to play with and save me time so I can do more important things like avvravate the heck out of my fellow forum members.

Next Month's O.G. Newsletter will be featuring (under an FPSC section)all of the current (functional) applications that can help you get the most out of FPSC (like E.C.S., Signs, FPSPack, MFPS, W.C.S., etc.). If you can get this functional by the 2nd week of June, we may be able to fit you in.

not me...

like i said, all the money i make of my stuff goes back into model packs and other FPSC apps, so its kinda like trading.

i agree with keith, the bigger slection of this stuff, the better.

Well, Competition is also the main fuel for people, so I guess you cant hate it after all. But it gets people to make better things, just like Duke is trying to do.

Thanks for the excellent comments and suggestions guys .

@Benjamin A
I think that EZEC is definitely faster than trying to import your model by hand. There's just no doubt about it. With EZEC you're just a few clicks away from generating a custimized FPE file. Right now the file formats it supports are .x and .3ds, however it will not convert your 3ds files to the .x that are necessary for FPSC. Of course, that's not too hard just download the free converter. I will definitely consider animation support because that would be a feature that none of the other ones have.

@I has returned
That's for your support and encouragement as always.

@KeithC
About the newsletter, I would certaintly appreciate being mentioned in your newsletter. I will do the best I can to have this finished by the deadline.

@Bullshock
I appreciate your encouragement, it means a lot coming from you especially.

@Higgins
I'm just trying to make the easiest, most effective program I can create.

Sounds good a few clicks only, the others can't claim a few clicks, but they rather need much clicks.

Just wondering what's the use of being able to import a .3ds file if no conversion at all is done?

What I'm saying is that you can import .3ds files into the editor and make the changes to it but if you want it to work with FPSC then you've got to convert the model to .x (basically you can view models that aren't yet in the necessary format required by FPSC)

Hey, Duke. Looks cool. That current animation system seems a tad cumbersome. If you don't mind, might I make a sugestion? For displaying animation, I typical use the following code:

This makes it so the animation plays while you hold down the space key. It pauses when your not holding it. Just put this at the start of your code, and set it to a higher value to slow the animation, and a lower value to speed it up.

I'm not trying to be a know-it-all or anything, but I find this works well.

I'm not 100% sure myself. LOL

Basically, let's say you have 2 anim sequences.

#1 is run
#2 is jump

You'd set animmax to 2. At least, that's how it works in theory...

Actually, I think an animation 'sequence' is one nameable group of frames that performs an action. yuh know, like run,die,jump,fart uh... yes.

anyhoo, they all ad up to the total, even though they could be numbered different or something...

sorry, I'm not making sense...

Hey duke! looks good.

Does it create animation or just play it?

I would love something that creates animation easily. Like a virtual puppet. I made a DB program that turned and rotated selected joints of a model with various buttons (the whole keyboard). It wasnt very good though and I never figured out how to save except with fraps.

Fyi: FPSC characters are 2498 frames of animation I believe.

I would be psyched if there was a program in which I could "hot key" the movements of the fpsc stock characters with fly around control over the camera.

If you don't want to buy Fraps then maybe you could try recording your video in segments with the demo and then past them together with a simple video editor program. It'd probably be a lot of work, but you save money.

Duke Blue Devils, you can use FRAPS for free also, but you just get a small overlay www.fraps.com when creating the video. Also the restriction is that you can only record for 30 seconds.

Works fine for me even with the restrictions and it will save you the money.

Okay here's a tutorial on how to do animation with EZEC:

1. Easily set the animation sequences in EZEC and export them to your dynamic entity
2. Modify this fpi script to include your custimized animation

3. Open your EZEC generated FPE and locate aimain=default.fpi
4. Replace default.fpi with the filename of the script you just created above
5. Save your changes to the FPE
6. Open FPSC and test out your new animated entity

I would have EZEC generate the FPI as well but I don't know what you want the animated entity to do or which animation to play when. There are so many possibilities that it would be impossible for me to make a universal FPI. However if you only want 1 animation sequence then I could make the FPI that would loop your animation continuously. Bottom line you have to know how to script so that you can custimize your entity's AI.
BTW-For some reason I can't upload the FRAPS videos of EZEC. Each video is 40mb

Quote: "can you please explain how you know what E.C.S. does and doesnt do, if you dindnt buy it?"
That's a pretty potential buyer unfriendly remark. Everyone should be able know what E.C.S. does, before he/she buys it.

Because I've got no clue what it does, I've never consider getting E.C.S.Pro at all, besides that I can do my entities much faster by hand then I can with E.C.S.Lite does, so I doubt it's better with Pro.

But EZEC sounds very interesting when it can do animations also, at least I'm getting a clear overview of what it can do.
