yah i tlooks pretty good but i think from loking at the screens you should add some more hilly terrain and the guy needs a bit of work IMO but it could just be the sreenshot angle. but nontheless it looks good.

Instead of just learning how to program i am also learning how to model in Wings 3D so if you know of any good tutorials let me know.

the human looks kinda odd due partly the angle, but its mostly because the lighting and texture dont work so well together, i think i might tweak it a bit

for the last 2 weeks ive been working on the MMO and equip/combat systems. the online part finally works(after months of trying to get it to work and adding new features) and the equip system is very basic.

Note: the picture of my friend and I online for some reason shows his character as totally black and in its default stance. im not sure why the texture isn't showing up and i haven't done animation support for other players online besides yourself...

Online with my friend

The equip system so far

It looks great, it looks like one of the projects I am going to look out for. The loading screen reminds me of Sum of All Fears the game a bit.

thx for the comments.

btw, i forgot to tell everyone: in my last post, the high-attitude screenshot had 500k+ polys and this made many people uneasy. im going to have graphics settings in the game and the low settings will have somewhere between 200k-300k polys, i havent decided yet

Sergey K: this is my current idea of how this is going to work: Beta comes out to the public for free. Once I finish all of the basic systems and a few zones, it will be released as the game(which will be updated with more zones, items, ect.). After the release of the game, anyone can download it for free and play for a month. After their month is up, they can choose to pay $2 for 6 months or $3 for 1 year

but, then again... i think im going to change it. after rereading some old posts that others have made, im considering this:
-Free Version: Ability to explore only the first 3 zones.
-Paid Version($10-$20, just one payment): Ability to go anywhere and do anything.

but, of course this is just an idea....

btw, does anyone have any feedback on this? which system do you like better? why or why not?

i liek the second one better becasu eyou still get to play for free or you should do the first one and have a 30 day demo were they get evrything thenthey have to buy the game and pay the 3 $

well i got some nice idea for your game that would make players play for free and also, if they want to get some very nice items, they would have to pay real money. hows that idea?
i planned to make that kind of system in my own game

imo buying items is a stupid idea and defats the point of even playing the game, as its essentially just a way to buy yourself to the top, however buying items/money off people is a different thing and i think that mmorpg`s these days should incorporate these systems into there games as it would stop people doing them elsewhere like ebay and potentially getting ripped off, and you would be able to take a cut of the price,

but as allways its best to actually make a stable game engine before you spend time considering the payment options,

also have you improved the tree handling system? cause your previous shots showed 500k polys which is incredibly overkill for whats needed.

I don't like the idea of buying the items themselves, I know other people do it, but some people would want access to items, without being charged, yet the one pay off would make them happier.

Selling game items for money is only a good idea if A. You already have a ton of subscribers, and B. If the game is EXTREMELY secure. Otherwise you're opening yourself up to problems, Sergey K.

actually, i never thought of it being insecure, so i guess thats another idea why i shouldn't do it...

ya, i mentioned this earlier. i reduced it to 250k polies for the same shot

Be sure that you use a PNG with an alpha layer, it will look better than a solid color transparency. Probably the best thing to do would be to load up a tree in DBP against a blue backdrop and ALT-Print Screen it. With a little tweaking, you can have huge forests without many polys.

His project is far enough along that comments like this are simply not useful.

well, i havent made us much progress i id like lately because of finals and such. and my last day of school is tomorrow, so i should be doing more of Deathquest after that.

anyway, the progress that i HAVE made is i fixed the server bug that causes crashing and i made the map so you can see where you are

and at the top of the map is an X button so you can close it during battles and stuff so it doesnt get in the way and take up too much space

1 does not have a good answer choice.

2 - A. I think that for a multiplayer game you'll need your basic functionality in place, or you won't get much testing done.

You could release your basic systems in single player form to fine tune them for the major product. That's what I did, it worked great.

I was wondering, do you need any objects creating?
I do have some experience in creating objects, all of which have worked properly in DBC/DBP, so far.

In deathquest you're going to have an epic battle fighting a gigantic honey bee? Sweet! Haha, looks real good so far. I really like the chat interface and minimap in particular. The sky and trees also look good, it's just the ground that doesn't look right, maybe the texture needs to be bigger so it doesn't look as blury. For the poll, I'd like to try a beta soon, but I think before you release it, it should have animation support and textures working for other online players.

It doesn't look like you've got a detail map applied to the terrain. It also suffers because the camera is so close to the ground.

well, it does have a detail map... should i make the detail image larger or different? (im using the detail image that came with ADVT)

also, i sorta agree that the camera is a little close to the ground. i can easily change that
