Gosh Megaton - you're right. I should have realised the error of my ways and turned away from a perfectly healthy pastime and be just like you instead. Phew. Maybe there's still time...

Or not.

There was a group of D&Ders in Korea when I was stationed there. One Saturday night, after 12 or so beers, I decided that I should pay these guys a visit, just to see how they partied on a Saturday.

So, I descended into the 'Dragon's Lair'. It was wild. They were in a circle, taking turns role-playing. Now mind you, before I start, they were not drinking anything except for Mountain Dew. In their role play, they were drinking 'grog' from a keg, and they were all 'cheating' with each others 'girlfriends' (translation - boyfriends). It was great because their characters were totally unaware that their 'girlfriends' were doing anything. And it got even better when their characters got drunk and started 'stumbling' around.

I got very afraid, didn't say a word, and left. I didn't want to get stabbed with a jeweled dagger.

I'm quite sure that's not the norm for D&Ders. These guys were geeks that all lived in the same barracks and had no social life. All perfectly nice guys. They were just geeks on their own merit.

I can imagine D&D being fun, I mean, I enjoy RPGs, and it can't be that different. I just could never hang out with people that pretended they were drinking. That's just insane and disturbing.

But pretending their fighting dragons (and each other) is okay?

Final Fantasy VII is not your high school sweetheart just because it was the first one to break your heart doesn't mean that better games wont come along. In fact, FF VII's major lasting contribution to gaming(besides making nerds cry0 is the prettiest male villian in history. Seriously, you'd think the FF gang was dressed entireky of clothes left over from Duran Duran's 1984 world tour. And what is Cloud doing while the fashionable yet feminine Sephiroth is destroying the world? Decorating weapons with jewelry, talking to a stuffed animal and making birds do it. Hey you cant ruch heroism...especially when your most powerful magic attacks clock in at a full minute. It's a sad day when watching a metallic space-dragon incirate an entire hemisphere i just boring. Oh and "One Winged Angel" is a Carmina Burana rip-pff. Deal with it."

See, for once we have justification. So you can't call me a noob for no reason this time. "

First of all have you even gotten past the first disk? no have you even gotten past Midgar?

Well anyway FFVII does not suck in my view..Its a very good RPG, I loved the game but I was young when It came out, like others have said already...you havent stated why it sucks? I think your arguement was started badly.... I stab the Strong Bad

I must have played FFVII a month straight without leaving the room until the game was over. I slept in the room, ordered my room mates to bring me food, and occasionaly my g/f would come by and give me a spongebath (whoohoo!).

FFVII rocked.

The game doesn't really keep you informed about what specifically you are supposed to be doing, and with no internet in the house to get walkthroughs from, it took me a while

Not to mention that stupid card game and all those sidequests, by the time I had finished a side quest, I had forgotten what it was I was doing in the main quest, and while I was trying to figure that out, I would stumble upon another side quest

When did FFVII get a card game? Perhaps it took you so long because you were playing the wrong game.

Having never played more than ten minutes of a ff game, I'll be holding my opinion on this. I'll have to wait till I get ffIII for the ds.

Um, Final Fantasy VII is a very popular game, and, i've done a search for the character you seem to hate the most (or at least made fun of the most in your post), Sephiroth, and I've got to say you probobly just offended millions of people, and 3 fan sites. Though I am not offended that you made fun of anything, (or offended at all) because your arguments make, well, er, slight points. But none of those arguments work when you compare them to the sales of the final fantasy VII game alone, not counting the merchandise, so, if I was you, I probobly wouldnt have posted this. (Please dont take into account my first 4-8 posts on these forums).

Sorry, but i didnt take the time to read, each and every one of these posts, only about 3/4 the first page. But I am responding to the topic mainly.

I have the BEST signature ever! I bet you cant guess what it is!

Does anyone else sing along to the music in FF games whilst playing or listen to the OST's? Or is that something I really shouldn't have mentioned?

At least 70% of the music I listen to came from computer games. I spend an hour each weekday learning how to play them.

And as for those of you who think roleplaying is stupid, please note that roleplayers are having more fun than you are.

I've never live-action roleplayed, but I have roleplayed in games. I know LARPers have more fun than me, and I'm humble enough to admit that.

The Dragon Master does however need to be apprehended by the lifeguard and ejected from the gene pool - permanently

Spyro sucks... Because the number of bugs in those games make them completely unplayable at times.

Oblivion sucks... Because my party has a habit of jumping in the way to save the enemy.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior on the PS2 sucks... Because it runs slower than Doom 3 on a Radeon 9200!

Final Fantasy VII however is in a word.. Classic. You can take that however you like but personally just cause I don't like a game I don't have a go at people, unless they're all sitting there claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread and seem to want to call anyone who doesn't also believe that to be some sort of smacktard.

Personally I can't a huge number or RPGs because they bore the ever loving crap out of me. But when it comes to Final Fantasy VII it just doesn't..

it's time to cast insult-aga on strong bad.

"Look at me I'm gonna make fun of a game that I know totally OWNS anything that I could ever possibly create. It s-s-sucks because Sephiroth is g-gay (b-but that's only because I could never defeat him on FFVII, Kingdom Hearts I and II), and it just s-sucks. Someone give me positive attention before I become a heroine addict"

I'm sorry, I just had the need to use that spell because I just upgraded insulta to insultaga, and I wanted to see how good it was, nothing personal though.

Iam not going to read all the posts, but FF 7 is the best of the series. If you didnt like it, why did you play it for such a long time to find out about the things you talked about?

I think your just one of those pafetic crying nerds, you talked about.

I got the FF8 soundtrack off of Ebay.

I think that viewed solely as a game, FF7 really does suck. I don't know if games have evolved so much since then, or that people really just didn't care. Under normal circumstances people would not want to play it. What makes it unforgettable though is, as aforementioned, the characters and themes. There have been few games with a main character as deep, complex, and well developed as Cloud since FF7, and I don't think any of them were RPGs.

Correction to Drew G's statement:
Final Fantasy VII Advent Children sucked.

Nah, it didn't. It was disappointing, but it still beats every other film I've ever seen (yes, my expecations were very high ). I reckon we'll see more Final Fantasy films, though. They developed software specifically for it. It would be a waste if they don't use it again.

I actually like turn based random battles. It's relaxing, you can do homework/read a book at the same time, and you don't end up with RSI.

I think FFVIII was a slightly better game because I could relate to Squall more, and the story in general was more emotional. Whilst I didn't hate her, I never liked Aerith (Aeris) much, so wasn't really that upset when she died. They're both my favourite games of all time though (I wouldn't say they're the best).

I like FFVIII a lot too, I just never finished the last sequence of battles. I think I may go back and finish them though just to get the ending, I have the PC version, and I believe I have a character editor lying around somewhere...

That's when you know a game is boring...when you can start doing homework while playing it.

I love the FFVIII ending. It gives you that rewarding feeling at the end. Unlike FFVII which was more of a "so what actually happened" feeling.

[edit]

@ Megaton: Ah, but that's the beauty of it. You don't have to stop playing to do your homework. The downside of it is that in an exam, it's really distracting because FF keeps popping into your head.

I recently purchased FF7, and to be honest, I'm rather enjoying it. It's weird and a bit quirky, but that sums up the Japaneese. It's not as good as Final Fantasy IX though, I really enjoyed that one, the only time I ever became obsessive over a playstation console. The dress styles don't bother me, I'm a dragonball Z fan, and having warriors battle it out in bright orange suits with spiky glowing hair has given me a certain level of resistance to Japanieese cartoony stuff, which is what FF really is. No, all in all, with the exception of the MMO game, the FF series is about the only real reason for getting a games console in my opinion.

If Uematsu didn't do the music, I don't think any of them would be as good as they are. For that reason, I'm worried about FFXII and FFXIII.

I'm fine with turnbased and tactical fighting, but I think it had a severe lack of variety in some areas in which the only thing driving your forward was all that you mentioned: the beautiful story and music.
I think it would be really cool if Square relased a "reimagining" of FF7. They could of course update the graphics and tweak the gameplay to be a little more engaging and on par with more modern RPGs, but also change the pace of the game, add some sequences, take some out, so you can experience the similar story in a new way. Then they could throw in a bonus disc with the original and charge more than a regular game. Fans are happy and Sony/Square makes money.

Drew go join the military, be the guy who crys in the middle of Navy SEALs training, sticks his head up in the middle of the excersize, and gets his face blown off. THAT WILL GET YOU ATTENTION.

I noticed you have been too much of a coward already to reply to this thread, your probably off acting like your ADD so your parents will pay attention to you.

Put your half a freakin brain to use and make something, or go to the gamefaqs forums with all the other little f@gs like yourself and argue about whether FFVII was good or not. You obviously know where this thread is going and you did from the start as well. If you dont like it then don't play it! Don't bitch to us about how you only played it for 10 minutes and didnt recognize any sort of fun.

Of course that might have been because your parents slipped you a few more downers than they usually do so they could go somewhere and get away from you.

Word of advice : No one cares about you or what you have to say, live like you know that for a fact.
