well,i dont think theres anything wrong with the story writers of modern horror today.i took my nephew to see 'saw' and (this other movie where people were trying to escape death.there pictures were taken & one by one there were all dying.... i cant remember the name of it. )

anyway, both of those movies freaked us out!

especially in saw when at the end that guy just got up off the floor. we were like whoa!! wtf! :p

we thought he was dead!!

with HPL we wouldn't have such great genres such as the Cthulhu Mythos which spawned the amazing RPG paper Stormbringer from the book by Michael Moorcock

Oh yes, best film in years that one. Have you tried the version on the DVD that plays it in normal time?

Time travel wise recently I quite liked the Butterfly effect. Really liked the end scene which was apparently not the same as in the nice original cinema release.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Although I'm relatively new to the horror film genre, I've always found that movies that rely more on sound than sight, or implied gore/deaths/etc. work better for me than any other films. Although not strictly horror, films like Sixth Sense, Signs, Secret Window (an excellent Stephen King based film), and the Ring work well because they're good stories, and executed well. "Shock-fests" like Saw, Hostel, and others hold no interest for me because they aren't well-written, and just try to shock viewers. Give me a good movie that scares me through well-written scenes, well-developed characters, and an intruiging plot, and you have my interest, and my money.

Eh?

Sound is very important in movies. I think that James bond is more popular because of the music, same goes for DR who sound, and music. Horrors today are going more for the twist endings, just give people the unexpected end, and you have a good movie. Donnie Darko is popular because the whole film is twisted, and you never know what is going to happen. I suppose that the next big film will be totally jumbled up. It might have clips that jump from past to present, and ends with the beginning.

Sounds like Slaughterhouse Five That would be a cool one.

Is that the ending where,

Or do I have to go and get it now? I saw it on TV.

I just went and watched Pitch Black. Even though it's an Alien horror rip off, it was good. Not good for being scary, it was just cool. Had nice development of a couple of the main characters you don't usually get.
