Ditto.

The oldest house I've seen in the USA was built in 1869 or somewhere around there. And that was in Connecticut on the East coast. The valley of the sun at least is made up entirely of cowboy towns, houses on the sides of mountains, Phoenix, and cookie cutter neighborhoods. The only remotely good theatre we have is the Orpheum. It's pretty, but meh. Downtown Phoenix.

I would never be foolish enough to be offended by someone from a country with less culture. We have cathedrals! You can't take that away from me!

Here, have an 13th century castle.

Depends where you live. Apart from the centre of my town that has been around for hundreds of years (with this one example pub from like 1620 or somesuch) then nothing in my town is older than about 40 years old. Good old "new towns". Think pretty characterless with chavs at every Blockbuster Not that bad though; this side of town I have a forest half a mile away (with set walks, cycle rent, rope rides, assault course etc) with a top slidey water swimming pool/park type effort and an upperclass racket club too.

As for cathedrals and the like, thats a bit like saying america is full of trailer parks.

Of course it's always nice to visit culture and history, but leave it for the holidays as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers

Hmmm maybe I meant old churches. When I went driving through the Cotswalds area of England, I was amazed by the look of the buildings where it seemed time stood still. Quite enjoyable

I bought that from money I found in local ditches

A Chav is normally a teenage kid (boy or girl) that wears a hoodie and/or baseball cap and wearing tracksuits (kappa slappa etc). They normally hang out in groups of around 5 outside the local Chinese takeaway or Blockbusters video shop. 100's of years ago we would have called them peasants (spitting the "p" as my upper class yugoslavian friend reliably informs me). Basically they are like a cross between rubbish 80's american boy bands and modern(ish) white rappers. "Chav" can be interchangeable with "Scum". If they aren't eating your tax bills with their workshy tinker ways then they are probably smoking it instead. With teeth stained by vodka and red bull. If they drive then it will practically be your nan's shopping trolley effort decked out in all sorts of rubbish to make it look like a space shuttle or somesuch. Unfortuantly this makes it slower than the original piece of rubbish that school kids could accelerate faster than on their bikes (which is another word for the female Chav). Sounds good(ish) though as makes quite a noise. Goes away quickly though as you leave them on the horizon.

Always laugh at that Chav joke. Goes something like... I was driving along the other day when I saw there was a terrible accident. A vauxhall nova and a citreon saxo had collided head on and none of the passengers were moving. Blood was everywhere. I started to stop to help out, then I noticed the baseball caps....

Cheers

Here is a lovely chav.

Chav women can be found on google images by searching for "bedraggled hooker"

Here's a nice definition from the nettynet:

Picture this a young lad about 12 years of age and 4 ½ feet high baseball cap at ninety degrees in a imitation addidas tracksuit, with trouser legs tucked into his socks (of course, is definitely the height of fashion). This lad is strutting around, fag in one hand jewellery al over the over, outside McDonalds acting as if he is 8 foot tall and built like a rugby player, when some poor unsuspecting adult (about 17/18) walks round the corner wanting to go to mcdonalds for his dinner glances at the young lad, the young lad jumps up in complete disgust and says “Whats your problem? Wanna make sommin of it? Bling Bling” when the adult starts to walk towards the young lad, the young lad pisses himself and runs off to either his pregnant 14-year-old girlfriend or his brother in the army crying his eyes out.

Golem chav ..

Pimped up Nova. The classic chav wagon.

Thats a nice bit of England there, but its not all nice and cultured, as Fallout has demonstrated with that picture of that THING.
