Microwaving CDs could effectively render your microwave quite useless as well. The shiny surface will reflect the microwaves and not absorb them much, so your microwave will end up absorbing loads of radiation and probably start smouldering (my friend stuck a metal jug of milk in the microwave, the stink took over a week to fully disappear, though his microwave actually survived somehow). This is also why you shouldn't switch the microwave on with nothing in it.
Quote: "Reminds me of that stupid stupid woman, who put her dog in the Microwave to dry off, then it exploded, she then sued the Microwave company and succeeded, how stupid, she should have been charged of murdering her dog! Its not an oven, it uses microwave radiation fool! Hence its name, therefore dangerous, even the safety documents of microwaves show that they are that dangerous, sure it doesn't say 'don't put living things in the microwave' but that fact it can be bad for your eyes looking directly through the glass of the microwave says something about it being dangerous inside."
Most likely an urban myth, or an exaggerated one anyway (i.e. she did kill her dog, but I doubt very much she succeeded in sueing the microwave company if she did even attempt). Microwaves don't damage your eyes, you probably get exposed to more microwave radiation using a mobile phone, and they've come to the conclusion that there isn't actually any risk in that.
