So, just got back from seeing it, and it was awesome in my opinion, though not as good as the first, A- where I would give the first an A+ . Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite movie though, so I'm sure I'm biased . I thought it was really good, fast paced, but a bit confusing in parts. Johnny Depp is amazing as Jack Sparrow again, lol, he's great. What'd you think? What about the surprise ending?

what ending? there wasn't one...was left completely open for a sequel. I watched it yesterday and was a bit disappointed about that.

The surpise ending was weaker than Neo getting plugged into the Matrix without jacking in.

Very good film though, and really really good CG!
Great work by the director and all involved.

Wife loved it, I hated it (ranks in my top ten worst movies). From what I hear it's probably because I didn't see the first one and without seeing it there are a lot of references I wouldn't understand.

Loved it, not as good as the first. Yes a little fast paced but Jonnie Depp is sooo funny!

I saw it on opening day in a sub-standard theater (the screen was way too dark and spoiled most of the outside scenes) and STILL managed to sit right in front of a jerk who would loudly laugh at the stupidest things.

"HAHA! HAHA! HA HA HA! the parrot said aye! haha!"

Half the time I wanted to turn around and smack him. Meh.

If you haven't seen the first one, go do so now - the second one builds (some people might say capatalizes) on the first so much that there's really no point otherwise.

Johnny Depp seemed to be imitating his previous performance instead of living it. There were a few moments that struck me as real, like when he tries to hit on Elizabeth. Or the cannibal island thing. But some of it sounded fake.

The big story with everybody wanting Davey Jone's key - how stupid. The development of Bootstrap was miserable, I couldn't emphatize with Will's desire to free him. The introduction of the captain dude whatshisname was gimmicky. But things did start swinging with the three way fight

Watching Kiera Knightly swagger around in pirate gear was fairly eyecatching as well.

I agree they didn't realy emphazise it much!
I also liked it when the three way fight was going and Kiera Knighlty was trying ever so hard to get their attention! Lol!!!

I wanted to go opening night but didn't make it so the night after the release was alright, and you should have heard the crowd when Jack Sparrow made his entry appearence, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP! What a night!

yeah, you really really have to see the first to get this one, or it doesn't make any sense . Well, I know it didn't really "end", but it was obviously made like Lord of the Rings was, it doesn't really end, but gets to a stopping point and sets up for the next movie. Just like in LoTR Fellowship of the Ring, it ends with Sam and Frodo standing there on the mountain.

They filmed the second and third movies at the same time, to maximize time-on-location for all the places they went to film at.

Thats cr*p about having to see the first one first. I saw the second one the other night and I haven't watched the first one. Made pretty clear sense to me

Ok one or two of the inside jokes I didn't get but overall it did make sense.

I hated the first one. I hate most movies with magic and the supernatural, so it was a letdown. I will not be seeing the new one.

Anyone know of a good pirate movie, gritty, that doesn't resort to stupid parrot humour and doesn't star Orlando Bloom?

Yah, I'd like to see a gritty welldone pirate movie, that doesn't resort to fighting the undead and magical ships with powers. That's just lame. Who else agrees that the world needs more pirate movies with swords, guns, and pillaging?

The Hornblower 'films' starring Ioan Grufford (sp) are great. They're shown on UK TV alot, but you can buy them on DVD.

Alternatively, there was some film with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins that was quite good... Give it a Google.

I saw it that midnight on thursday and loved it ^_^ The story, the music, the visuals, everything was great.

I thought it was a very well written story, referencing the first enough to make the series coherent and stay familiar to the fans, but with enough unique elements to make it exciting. And I loved that cliffhanger ending - my only complaint is having to wait until next summer for part 3 XD

And I myself like pirate stories with a touch of the supernatural. Sure you can have a good pirate story without those and there are plenty of good ones to prove so, but I find that supernatural element always makes things more interesting.

Ditto

I was going to write a review, but someone already did for me it seems. I have to agree with Drunken Fiesta. I saw it at midnight, and I loved it a lot. It's one of those movies that it seems both guys and girls love, which is one of the reasons it's so great(at least around here). I can't wait till the third one. The cast is very good too, and it's good to see all the same members are here, and will be back for the third(which I've heard has been filmed, similar to the way LOTR filmed multiple movies at once).

So, obviously I'm a fan so there's not much else I can say. I didn't dress up or anything, but there were plenty of others who did.

Thought the movie was alright, some scenes dragged on a little too long though (in particular the 3-way fight).

I LOVE Hornblower! We have all of them on DVD...all I can say is that they had BETTER make more...

Hook is pretty good too, but does have magic.

POTC II wasn't bad, but not great IMHO. The plot while being comprehensible was sprawling, with more plotlines then you could shake a stick at. Also, the cannibal part was total fluff. Just a way to kill off all the crew almost.

I do have one question though, sort of a spoiler so don't read on if you haven't seen it.

When the two goups of the crew are hanging in those big ball trap things and they're climbing up the side of the cliff. Why is it that they suddenly start racing eachother? Obviously completely irrelevant to the rest of the film, but I'm still confused because I thought they were part of the same crew.

Well, I'd say that it's because there was a threat of mutiny earlier, and it only takes 6 to crew the ship. Thus - whoever gets there first, gets the ship. They'd want rid of that crazy Captain and some "Shiny" at last.

I loved it, but it wasn't as good as the first. The development in the love story kind of ruined the light heartedness that made the first one so great.

It was very funny though, especially the three way fight, Kiera Knightly's face when they roll past on the giant water wheel was priceless. As was the perfect use of the phrase "oh bugger." Classic.

I'd like to see an enemy that can actually die though. Sword fights are no fun if the enemy is invinsible. Amazingly strong=good, invinsible=dull.

Just in case people don't want to hear about the circumstances of the ending (no spoilers though) :

How closely are they releasing the next one? Are they doing a matrix, and releasing it later this year or are they going to wait untill 2007?

Hey Jeku, if you like just pirates, no magical crap, no supernatural stuff, and nothing completely idiotic, then get down to Blockbuster and rent the original Treasure Island. That was a funny movie. and while your at it, rent Arsnic and Old Lace. Arsnic and Old Lace is about these two old ladies that poison people.

It was good and bad in equal amounts.

Some moments were brilliant, and I was laughing out loud. Cannibal island springs to mind. The rest seemed to be all bland, far too many plotlines were introduced half way through. The middle hour of hte film seemed to be just waiting around planning what to do next.

But then again it was probably your standard second film of a trilogy - setting up the third. Hopefully the third won't have as much fantasy in and more swashbuckling pirates.

Well, considering they're going to go to the "edge of the earth" to get back Jack from death, and that the east india trading company now controls Davey Jones heart and therefor the sea, it will probably be all fantasy and far fewer pirates.

Yah I hate that crap. You can always be assured the main characters in a Disney movie will not die (unless it's a cartoon, in which the mother or father of the main character will undoubtedly die).

In my opinion, POTCDMC was one of my favorite movies yet. I simply LOVED the parts with the Kraken (sp?) Just think about all the planning and compositing and animating and.. just, everything that went into it. Wow! This is definitely on my top 20 fav. movies. I was pretty thrilled by the ending
That was great like how he
Tied the movies together kinda

Oh, and when
