So from what I've seen in the video, all the portals were created on flat surfaces. What happens if you're playing in an environment like this? WHere ye gonna make the portals?

Ah, the Unreal Engine 3 screenshots. How I remember them fondly. So many materials.

If it were me, I think you'd have to create the portals as a very clever decal (the same way people do bullet holes and blood splats) and only allow it on relatively flat surfaces (i.e. not on a lamp post). Think of it as a giant portal-splat.

Either that, or check to see what the first point of contact would be, and then just float the portal in front of that (so it doesn't intersect). That wouldn't look as cool, but it could be done.

All that it'd be needed now is portable hole technology (creating 'wormholes' through walls etc) and cloth physics for picking up the fabric-like hole and throwing it around the place. That would be insane.

With a few vertex changes/checks when the portal is created you could make it wrap around anything, Im sure a pro team like valve has thought of that already.

I have problems with point 5.

Like I said, using Sparky's dll you can get the angle of the normal intersecting too points. Its the same angle that was used to rotate the portal the right direction (that POINT OBJECT bit in the function in the code I provided)

Just realized what I said, nevermind that. You rotate it to the user's angle, to give the 3D effect. So ROTATE OBJECT CAMERA ANGLE X(),CAMERA ANGLE Y(),CAMERA ANGLE Z().

And to fix the problem of the camera showing green, after the POSITION CAMERA bit in the function, add a MOVE CAMERA 5.

I agree this Portal thing does sound like a cool idea, and looks very cool, but don't think a game can be solely built around one cool feature. (Unless it incorporated other new things that has not been seen in FPS games before)

The Portal game look awesome! It is original, and Jaw-Dropping.

Ruccus demo is the same, it is Jaw -Dropping that DBPro can do that....

Seeing as how it's just a puzzle game tacked onto HL2 Ep 2, then nobody is expecting it to be its own full-fledged game.

But I can see there being countless puzzle ideas using just the portal gun. Especially if you combine it with the gravity gun.

No, it won't be sold on its own (as far as they've said). It will be included with HL2 Ep 2 as a puzzle game on PC, 360 and PS3.

As far as I know, it's not contained within HL2 itself. It's a seperate game that's being bundled with the Episode 2 expansion pack instead of being sold seperately. So I wouldn't expect too much from it, but I'm sure it'll still be good fun.

I think ive had all the fun I can have with portals, after playing the original game. Its not special any more, so I dought ill be buying any games just to get it.

Although, if it has multiplayer and weapons, then I might get it, because it would be fun spawn killing 400 miles away through a portal and getting the other team pissed off.

Indeed, that is pretty cool. It kind of clips a bit when you try to enter it sideways though. Maybe you should do an angle check.

Yes, ok, see, the point is you're not buying just for it, it's coming with the HL2 expansion pack. Hence, why no one expects it to win the next game of the year award. I thought we made that point, already.
