i'm sure most who use MSN Explorer will understand better what is just plain wrong about the picture ->


Now to be honest since using XP Corp i've not had any crashes, however there are ALOT of annoyances.
For some reason Windows Messenger (msnm standard 4.7) even thought it is a higher version than its Me counterpart (4.6) the damn'd thing doesn' have half the features, especially quick email retrieval. So i installed the blasted plugin and my MSN Explorer Mail started using bloody hotmail!!

Hopefully someone understand howto fix this because i uninstalled the addin but alas the stupid thing still accesses hotmail

Also for some reason MSN Messenger 5.1 no longer connects to the .Net Passport server - so i'm stuck with 4.7
I know that 5.1 signed me out hourly, but it was still much better and more stable than 4.7

:: sighs :: god i wish that microsoft listened when people have problems with thier software, but everytime i get the same answer unless its piracy related - it'll be in the next version - i'm still waiting for the original MSN Explorer Messenger style to come back, they package it with the home edition

So many email to have to write back to everyone and i can't even have my style sheet accepted because MSNE and Hotmail don't actually like each other

Why use MSN Mail, and not Outlook ? I've had no problems with Messenger 4.7 - its very stable. Its certainly got more features than 4.6 - voice conversation etc.

I'm not surprised about 5.1 not working - I think it looks at a different part of the Hotmail servers at startup (which probably dont exist ant more) for signing in...

Make sure you've got XP SP1 installed too.

I use MSN Mail, becuase I find it easier - because i didn't have to html tag anything, worked alot like WordXP
Auto SpellCheck, Auto GammarCheck, standard Colour Change Menus, auto Smilies, builtin Java Buttons...
And there is more, plus the look is alot warmer than the Outlook - when i'm writing about 30 emails a day in just response really would prefer something that doesn't look dull and boring.

4.6 has everything the 4.7 has with the upgrade except for video connection and remote access - but as remote access is XP only then hey no biggie.
5.1 is still going and it uses the Delta .Net Passport network - as my MSDN access still works the Delta service is still up, and I only lost access within XP... However it is a universal windows version 9x/Me/NT3.x/NT4/2k/XP

Lost alot of options really really annoying

i'm sick of having several operating systems ... XP is the only one to be able to run all programs over all OS's
i know i have the HDD space, but it is rediculous having a machine with WinMe/XP Home(now Pro)/2000, and i'd have to choose on bootup - I can't use the system timer to boot up automatically to run certain operations.

Anyways... a new day a new problem
I've just tried to setup ICS, now this may sound very very odd however the network works fine - infact everything should be working perfectly! However the AOL Dial on Demand on my machine doesn't want to connect, even when it is connected to the internet - still doesn't connect for the network!!

The windows is XP SP1, + all other upgrades ... (not as many as ME right now)
well anyways, this is an annoying problem - thing is without being able to connect I can't upgrade my other machine as I don't know where XP keeps the upgrade files OR if they're even in EXE form.

Hopefully someone knows about this, contacting AOL Tech Support is oftenly a costly waste of time!

Lol, WinXP is the best OS ever. It cannot make everybody happy, not even Jesus did it and after thousand years still does not...lol
Since I've installed XP the ONLY problem I had was that some DOS app ( games indeed ) got slower ( I have a Pentium 4, 2ghz and Geforce 4 and could feel slow down in lets say...Doom). Apart of it, it rocks. U definitly should use Outlook Express and give up of using MSN explorer, that's just too girly program. I have been also tranfering large files with a friend of mine via MSN and it sucks, all the time the connetion was interrupted for some reason, no problems with ICQ. If u really need edit html and stuff use the classic notpad way, nothing can be easier than that WinXP is very good, fast and easy to use if u also try to make things easier... I think...

I think you've missed the point... althought i know darkbasic extremely well and c/c++ damn'd well now too, i still have EXTREME trouble using html - don't ask me why but i can never do anything in it!
And I keep loosing my header that i create for using with Hotmail.

Outlook doesn't send mail for me!! Don't ask me why but i'll use it for a day and then for some reason it can't send - which has probably got something to do with AOL 7/8's firewall.
If anyone has used AOL Mail - well its just a joke, made for morons to use and is just bloody annoying.
Explorer Mail was great it has all the Rich Text crap i wanted and i could switch between code and Rich Text with a click. Hotmail you do that it looses all formating you placed in it, and althought it emulates the style of it - it just isn't right and not even CLOSE to instant page transfer like Explorer.

It may seem a little girly to you but quite frankly it was the easiest Mail server i'd ever used, and it had alot of the advanced options i prefered which were popup windows rather than moving each window.

XP has failed to run almost 120 titles that i have, DOS and Windows Games ... the dos ones just say "environment not supported" the windows ones say "you are running Windows 5.1, this game requires Windows 95"

I've had problems using Max, Lightwave, DarkEdit, Softimage, etc...
Oki so i'm no longer crashing every 20mins, but atleast Me bloody ran everything i wanted it too!

ICQ is never an option as quite frankly no matter howmany blocks i made and such i always got porn popups, people contacting me (even when i'm invisible and by invite only!) about porn ... quite frankly it piss'd me off and isn't suitable for work. We all use WW Messenger (MSN Messenger Developed) at work which only seems to be able to contact other Passport software.
The problem with the files transfering on microsoft is actually there is no resumable and the linking of different speed modems is dodgy. Add this to the fact that MSN must have a set bandwidth which it doesn't reserve.

The best program for transfering files PC to PC is LapLink 2003 ... which everyone here uses over all messengers because we know the file will get through!

Also try to remember that XP has obviously been design for super-speed machines ... right now i'm using an 800Mhz Duron and quite oftenly it take a full 3seconds to resume windows (upto 15 if i have more than 10), windows leave trails when they move so hearing praise of something like this from someone with a pretty damn'd powerful system really doesn't matter to me!!
Some of us can't afford that kinda hardware every freakin' month because some ass**** believes its amusing to destroy our several thousand dollar worth of hardware!

the only upside to this dumbass OS so far is that i've not been hacked yet and the general virus's that used to plague me don't seems to be compatible which is a ironically funny.

I still think its stupid they redesign WinNT into XP they could have atlest setup memory management better - rewrite the core and get rid of DOS completely.

How about getting someone to look at your computer for you ?

The only trouble I get in XP, is that the recovery console is always report (and fixing errors). I wish it would tell you what errors its found...

Quite a bit of 'modern' software can'tbe used on XP. Some problems can actually be resolved by re-installing too... I had a problem with Golf 2001 - suddenly wouldn't run; so had to re-install XP (after try to uninstall & re-install the game of course).

hahaha. The help is:
Install Win98, so you can use all programs u want. Some games with Win98 ( Need for Speed series, Formula One series, Fifa Soccer Series and so other many ) One day are working fine. The other, when u try to run them, u just get back to the desktop. No error messages, nothing, just ur nice desktop screen.(Mine is the pretty Rogue from the movie X-Men...so it's great when I get back to the desktop anyways...lol). The funny is, no matter how much you try install the game again ( even deleted any track from the previous install ) The game wont run. So u have to format it.
Or you can use programs as 3D Max where u cannot use multiple windows cause it's mainly designed for NT. ( U can with win XP/2000 ).
And one more test. I also have an AMD 800 Mhz and geforce 2 basead card look at this:

Grand Theft Auto 3 under Win XP ( Good, about 50 fps )
Grand Theft Auto 3 under Win 98 ( Bad, about 30-35 fps )

The solution is simple, use another system if you are not happy with XP. I am...and so many others too so you will get only XP ass kissing. If I was you I should ask a professional to take a look at ur computer...
About the games that does not run, ask for support from the manufactures, I got a GREAT SUPPORT SERVICE from USA in less then 4 hours with MANY games and they helped me...

Hi.
I was looking for a solution about same subject... I think i did it.

Follow these steps:

1) Uninstall "MSN Mesenger" from Add/remove programs in Control Panel
2) Remove "MSN Explorer" from "add/remove windows components" in Add/remove programs
3) Close "add/remove windows components" window
4) Go to "add/remove windows components" again, and re-add "MSN Explorer"
5) Use "MSN Explorer" as normal

You can use "Windows Messenger" instead of "MSN Messenger", with MSN Add-on

Hate XP? Strange... I have XP too. And I can strongly say that XP - RULES!!!!!!!! Since the time I've bought it (about year ago) I download only few updates, but i have no bugs at all! At the same time FPS in diffrent games is highier then in Win98 or 2000.

I love XP because I installed it on release and it has never crashed, frozen, asked for reset, or worse, needed a system format

I hate XP because many old DOS and Win3.1/95 apps and games don't work, even with compatibility modes. Therefore I run Win98SE and XP home dually, on sepearte hdds.

i hate hate hate winblows from microshit... linux all the way... im workin on my own Os off of the Unix Kernel... =\ im going to try and get directx support so people wont have you use crappy expensive winshit... but its a pain in the ass... O_O you know the only reason i use windows is because everything uses it... i tried linux with winehq but it just wasnt the same...

I share your opinion. If Linux was just a little more widespread and had Direct X or something like it, it would be the most used OS. The only thing stopping more people migrating to it is its "Nerd Reputation",stating that you have to be a genius to be able to use it. To all people who still think this, most Linux distributions have a GUI superior to windows, albeit in stability and speed.

Whatever I did I didn't do it!

I never found Linux reliable - any crash would always take out the whole machine, needing a reset. This is unlike Windows XP.

Another problem is that Linux & KDE just feels unfinished and rather long-winded.

I tried Mandrake Linux 9.0 for a while... In the beginning I loved. But the support is crap and MrTAToad is totally right, if crashes u have to reset the machine.
Well, still about the support, I went to Mandrake "expert" ( as if the name means a shit ) and asked my problem:

"My computer keeps crashing when I try to connect to a server or run Linux Update".
I gave all my detailed problem, explanning each and every part of my hardware and kernel... Some guys were nice and tried to help on the forum, did not work. Eis, the official support indicated me a patch which should fix the sudden crashes... I used the patch and still crashes, but even worse, now, after the kernel been updated with the patch, when Linux crashs it takes about 30 minutes to boot... and run as a turtle on a F1 track. Well, I formated my ext3 partition, instaled the Linushit again. Went one more time to the Linux Mandrake Expert and explaned the situation.. the official damn support suggested me to change my network card...lol.
I laughed so much that I almost pee on me... instead of they fix the Mandrake problem ( my network card is the intel one ) they ask me to change the hardware....hahahahaha... Its like u buy a Geforce FX, Linux does not support and they suggest you to get a Geforce 2 MX .
Besides, ain't many users who can give detailed info about hardware, Linux is not user friendly ( install a software sucks ) and the support is bad... WINDOWS XP all the way.

Oh yeah... My Linux experience with it's users... I've tried to find some media players for Linux on download.com as well so games ( which linux is useles for media players and games ). So... instead of the peoples there help in how to install some damn programs, they were all laughing of the newbies... a Pity... linux is a pity

you chose a bad distro of linux... i hate mandrake... there support is shit... go with a lesser known one because the people supporting them feel really important when they help people... gives em a power trip but there really nice... thats why i went with evilentity (plus it looked badass)... the best linux i have found so far is knoppix... ( my network card is the intel one ) heres something you should remember... and why they said it... linux goes with AMD... winblows goes with crappy intel... i really only started hating microshit after they made it so you need a new copy for every comp... with win98 you only needed 1 per household... i had to hack winxp to let me use it... and since i have to install windows on a seperate comp (windows hates my motherboard)... i had to hack the activation key to let me use it... (its rather simple you just log in under admin... in safemode... and edit the registry)...

well i've learnt to live with XP but i'm still not exactly "hooray for Microsoft" about it.
I'm still trying after months to find the same bloody options hardware wise and such for all my peripherals, trying to find the damn'd callback feature on my modem to make sure the bastard don't disconnect me has continued to illude me.

It isn't friendly to new hardware, it isn't friendly to new software... ALL of my 3D packages and Art packages run almost 25-30% SLOWER than on WinME.

If your and everyday Jo kinda user who doesn't need to access professional area's i guess for the plug and play selection of things it is very simple and striaght forward. The second you want to do anything advanced THATS when you notice how much WinNT is within the blasted thing.

Oh and i've tried for almost 3months to get my A: working, nothing out of the ordinary a simple 1.44/2.88Mbyte Mitsumi FDD ... works fine in DOS ... works fine on other machines ... what about XP, oh there is a conflict it doesn't wanna read it BUT it will tell me its there and fully operational. So you solve the conflict, still says the conflict is there!

I even reserved ALL of the FDD resources ... still a blasted conflict. Now normally i don't give a damn cause you throw in a CDRW and away you go - but i soon found out, the newer CDRW from Samsung, Philips, TDK don't work within older Cdroms ... ack i swear i have a list as long as both my arms about the problems i have with XP.

And i've tried what was suggested for MSN Explorer... it installed it again same problem, and i think the only REAL way to achieve what i want is to reinstall the OS itself - cause it works from base version, but as soon as you install the updates when you reinstall software its from the updated version. Wish the was a bloody roll-back on software as well.

My only big pain with WinXP is the compatibility mode... It would be a GREAT thing if it would work But it's a lie really . There's just one program that works for me in compatibility mode... 3D Game Studio. After publish my game, some games won't run, so u have to use the compatibility mode and voila... Apart of it, nothing else I could get to run... games, softwares... in other words, another useless MS func.

Trouble is the 'better' operating system BeOS went bust (typical really)... It had much better hardware compatiability and it would only crash gracefully (not that I managed to get it to crash when I was using it).

yeh i liked beos too... =\ it was the reason why i learned c++ with directx support first... because beos doesnt support opengl hehe..

pitty... i couldn't get my hands on a copy of it for love nor money.

They do have a new version comming out BeOS Max or something - thing is what you need with an OS now is max compatibilty with the business products as well as DirectX full compatibility ... make it cheaper than Windows and you've got yourself something marketable, especially if you try to push it under the business's noses to gain there - beating out Linux, Unix, Solaris and Windows

Buht ho hum maybe one day someone will make Microsoft sweat and put them in the same boat as Intel

notice the CPU usage... what does the RED line represent, as i've NEVER seen it before
and i'm guessing its bad ... so suggestions to correct it - which it might be the reason for the jittery speed (you'll notice what i mean if you heard music at the moment, is very unplayable at times)

i think it is the same team... just they've done that Liquidation and basement development jobbie thing.

Alot of companies do it, right before they go bust they borrow cash for the company and then pay themselves an end of year rate - then call bankruptcy and with the money they've given themselves continue to develop within the year in the hopes to get a publisher to keep them afloat in the mean time

Its an interesting and risky practise trying to ripp off the banks, but has kept several companies out of development for long.

o_O palm os sux... look at the linux for the zaurus... its nice... i finally ported windows2000pro and macos 8.2 to my zaurus... hehe what you can do with a lil creativity....
