Hi @ all,

as you may have seen, we've finished the compo version of Bamberman retro.
It's a multiplayer (only) bomberman clone for up to 4 players.

Nothing more to say just try it hehe ...
Hope you like it ...

Hm, I really don't think you can compare any game made by a huge company like Hudsonsoft with a selfmade, within 3 weeks, hobby project !? And Bomberman is definitly retro as the first known Bomberman type of game was back in 1983( http://www.newdream.net/sb4/history.html ) . Ok the game couldn't give you a single player super duper story mode but it's fun to play with others. We'll definitly add more to it soon but we're limited by the compo rules ...

You're also active at the german board ?

DerFallendeEngel, it's a multiplayer game you may think its boring cos u have no friends to play it with and obviously dont know what ur on about this game is really cool, well done on this it is definatly a contender for retro comp.

my two 'lil sisters played the game together and loved it, but they were a bit frustrated with the speed, ran kind of slow on my athlon 1800xp geforce2mx400 256ddr.

I know that it runs not very fast but that's due to a DBPro slowdown. It was faster with DBPro's beta versions of Patch4 so only thing I can say is, wait for P5 and then I'll recompile again Hopefully faster then.

The speed is ok on my Athlon 1200MHz with GF4Ti4200 but I know that not everybody has a GF4 ... so we have to wait (again!? )

I wouldn't say the game is boring at all, but it's a shame it's 2 player only so I'm really looking forward to a version that isn't (the game will be judged with 2 people playing it, so don't worry).

DerFallendeEngel - so which entry did you submit huh?

Cheers,

Rich

I'm sorry for the "no-one-player-mode"
But there wasn't time for proper AI and one player mode so I dropped it (don't want stupid gamelogic in).
There will be an updated version with:

- one player mode
- play against enemys
- more maps/music/power ups
- etc ...

But I hope that it wouldn't influence the judges too much if there's (currently) no one player mode

it really looks nice, and the voice is funny, but theres a problem: after having placed the bomb, there is a countdown. when the countdown reaches 1, everything stops for about 10 secs, same happens when you collect a power up. my system is an amd athlon xp 1700+, 512 ddrram, ati radeon8500. perhaps the loading time delay of ati cards again?

@TheBigBabou ... I've read that there are some bugs with Patch4 when using an ATI card ... I'll recompile with a newer DBP version as soon as it's available.

This is truly brilliant - I love Bomberman

This is hilarious. I love the voices and the funny back-drop death. (^-^)

There's only 2 things I'd consider changing.

1) The time the explosion lasts. It's really annoying running into your own long after safely getting away. Just a quick (big) fireburst is often enough to fry your opponent.

2) Make your character move a bit faster. It's hard to get away from your own bombs sometimes.

But this is one heck of a game. I love the artwork. And I'm sure Lee is either laughing his head off or secretly planning to destroy you all. LOL.

Good job guys.

The moon empowers my blade and commands me to destroy you all!

Thanks Shining Moonblade,

I'll see what I can do to speed things up. Expect a new release with next DBPro Patch 5

I currently work on enemy code so you can play alone and also on some multiplayer code over a network.

"but this kind of games is boring for me"

Only if you are trying to play it on your own. With 2 people it is great fun, and can get pretty intense! - I bought Atomic Bomberman back in 1997 and this is more or less about the same quality (better graphically, slightly short on gameplay) - it certainly is pretty good for a 2 month DBP game to be as good as an 80% scoring commercial game from a few years back.

@Hubdule

Along with the infuriatingly brain-taxing Pyramid Pushers, this is my fav. entry so far.

hey hubdule you said you were working on a single player mode. I've been creating a bomberman clone off my own (www26.brinkster.com/dudemansoftware, you beats it hands down) but one main problem i've been having is the AI. So as our goals are the same come up with a good bomberman AI do you want to work togeather at all, exchange ideas or anything of the sort.

Damn !! I've downloaded and tried to run this game about 6 times now. But it still just closes down for no reason.

It gets as far as "loading" on a black screen.... then it just all vanishes ( no error message, nothing )

LMAO you did a chop job on Lee's award pic didn't ya (^_^)
pretty cool, the controls are a little iffy for an arcade game - not really very quick if you know what i mean.

but was fun and funny... alot of the game works so well together

I have EXACTLY the same problem as Simple
I see we have the same graphics card Gforce2mx 400 anything to do with that you think?

Hm, as I only have a GF4Ti4200 here I can't test this ... but I'll try to get one to test this ... other possiblity would be a new compile in a newer DBP version when available.

did you guys leave it to load... as it does take a while and swaps screens about 20times, and if you do anything whilst it loads up it has all sorts of problems.

it should take a min to show a black screen saying "Loading..." after that let it flicker about and you'll hear music soon followed by the actual game.
Once it shows the main title screen you can then mess about
happened to me 2x before i realised it was probably something wrong with DBpro not the actual program.

works fine on my GeForce4 Mx 460 & GeForce2 Go! (Mx 100/200) ... which would be the only real similarity between you guys.

Nah ! The black loading screen appears after about 8 sec's ... last for about 5 sec's and then just disappears. After which I waited about 5 mins just incase it was a slow loader.

Even if I look in my task manager... it's not there ( not running )

But I am about to download it again and try it on my other machine ( Gforce2 200 mx )..... I'll let you know the results.

OK..... just test it it on my other machine... Gforce2 100/200 mx and it works fine

Loads up in about 10 secs.. ready to play in about 15.

Very nice game... although I found it a little too slow moving. I don't use my other machine much, but I may have to start.... give the Mrs a few games to see who's making the next coffee !!

The game was faster with DBPro Patch 4 beta 4-6 but the release slowed it down a lot ... don't know why so it's maybe to slow on some machines. Nice to hear you could test it finally Hope it get's faster again with P5 ... I'll also have a look where I can optimize the speed ... we'll see
