Are the new banners working? They are not cycling for me. I just get the winning banner. Or are there no cycling banners anymore?

Read the newsletter. Specifically the 'banner winners' article.

at least cycle the top 3 or something.
I used to like that banner up there, now when I see it its just all "no no no" to me

No offense to the artist, but I really cant stand looking at the banner that won. It just looks ugly. Although, I think it would've been cool if the line numbers had started at 42.

I'd be able to stand it more if there weren't so many compression artifacts! The text in the message box is really blurry.

Yes, there are compression artefacts. But they're not that bad. The text is perfectly readable. What kind of screen are you using? I'm using a 15in LCD at 1024x768.

Yeah, I don't really like the winning banner either. It's good, but there was a better selection imo

And yeah, way too fuzzy. Needs to be exported as gif.

I don't see how it won to be honest...

I usually would feel bad to disrespect someones work, the banner is a good joke, and it works OK, but is just badly artifacted, and also easy to make.

It won because it was a good joke. But, to be honest, I liked the android streching the big black thing over everything the most

I think user error would make more sense than organic error, since its more likely to actually come up.

Yes, but the 3 winning banners haven't cycled at all. It has only been the 1st place dude's banner.

...Or in a few days are we going to see the 2nd place banner for a week or so?

personally I think that it deserved 3rd, on 1280x1024 it does look quite blurry but is readable [with some skill lol]

I also am getting tired of seeing it so...

I liked that one that had "please bring your own caffiene" though it didn't have enough art quality, just liked the phrase

Hate to join the crowd and sorry to diss the artist, but yeah, that banner is not the best. There were plenty of better ones. The joke is pretty poor. The font on the right is bad. I wouldn't normally diss, but I'm sick of looking at it too.

Mind you, it aint TGCs fault. It's all you numpties for voting for it. I can just picture all the silly kids chuckling at that joke as if it contains some arcane humour. Shame on you! Shame on you!!!

Well I say, if you don't like his entry, just beg Rich to edit it so you got the joke and its more your liking, you know if you beg enough he'll have to say yes

I think the idea was good on the banner, but could look better, but I still the ones I picked (although I can't remember which ones they were) would have been better.

Winning a competition is one of the better experiences you can get - especially when its by a public vote. Having every man and his dog then go and put you down unnecessarily is a big downer. If it annoys you, look away. And the font used or the joke aren't the most important things in the world

I don't want somebody who's just won a competition to feel down - they should be happy. And I hope you all feel the same way.

So give the banner its time in the spotlight for a couple of weeks, then we can go back to the more artsy banners. It made me laugh at least, and I voted for it. And it seems it made the silent majority smile too

Yeah I think the top 3 should have been cycled, but thats just me. I don't mind this banner. I might have even voted for it. I don't remember though. The compression is the only annoying part. Just stop complaining, you don't even see it most of the time anyhow.

You all (as a community) voted it first place, so deal with it. It wasn't my first choice, but I respect the votes. Add to that the guy was *really* chuffed to have been picked (and rightly so) this thread is pissing me off.

I'll was going to replace it with the 2nd place one on Monday, the aim being to give all 3 winners around 2 weeks exposure in total.

However given all the unwarranted bitching here (seeing as none of you complaining managed to submit one that was voted higher) I reckon you've earned it another full week up there on its own.

Anyone who emails me to complain can kiss their forum access goodbye for the rest of August for being an obnoxious tit. Let him have his limelight.

I like it (congrats to BiggAdd), but I also expect the same comments when/if my banner appears for a few days. Like the saying goes... 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. Its all personal opinion and there will always be those people wanting to express their views whether good or bad.

Just saw this--- I like that entry (am I the only one brave enough to admit it?). A little humour can go a long way, and I much prefer that style over the hundreds of lens-flared cookie-cutter "artsy" submissions.

Oh well. By the way, what's chuffed mean?

They aren't threats, I was annoyed and meant every word of it. The purpose of a forum is not to collective 'put down' someones work, no matter what you think of it, especially something the forum as a whole voted for!

David put it far more elegantly, but as the thread was turning into an 'email Rich and complain' direction I figured I'd make it perfectly clear what I thought of that idea.

I guess it worked.

We all know that the voting can be fixed. We all know that this forum is a place to critique work, that's the main point of this entire site. I personallu don't believe that the banner was voted for by most people on the site.. it doesn't make sense to me. Based on the critiques from years of threads, I know what people think on this site.
