Like the title says I was trying to determine what the best type of media is to use ? Taking into consideration transparency of course.
Id there benifits to a certain type, or drawbacks. As always any thoughts appreciated. One last question, will DBP handle .ico files ?
edit: I should probably mention I'm thinking along the lines of psedou-3D Baldurs Gate,Diablo ,eventually of course. Where you would be working over a background image with an animated sprite.

i use *.bmp cuz of the bmp format is exactly the way u draw it in paint or whatever it wont be.. and then when u do the image colorkey command there wont be left any pixels whith other colors on the edges of the sprite(like *.jpg does).
u can use icons for the exe icon, but i dont know if u can use em for the game media either.
hope i helped

lol?! xD

PNG all the way. Use a half-decent paint package that supports transparency layers. PNG files with alpha transparency will allow you 256 levels of transparency, so some bits of sprite can be fully transparent, some can be solid, some can be partially transparent giving a cool translusent effect.

Yeah PNG allows things like smooth edges, drop shadows etc - and they're lossless compressed so they take up less space too.

Thanks everyone. No offense to .bmps but it looks like .png gets it.

I think it is a safe bet that .BMP files won't be offended

And yes, .PNG files are the best option for all the reasons mentioned.

I've been using bmps since I laid my hand on mouse and keyboard and I must say, sprites also work very good with them, honestly. As for *.png, I've never really used them, but they sound quite compatible.
But I won't be botherin' such a fluffy little question as this one. Bmps are perfectly OK.

edit P.S.: And yeah, I hate *.jpg too.

Wherever you plan to go,
it's the next step you never know.
