Hello

Hmm, i see much have happened on fpscreator.com since i was here last time.

Anyway, something that isnt mentioned very much is the sounds and music/ambience in Umbra. You are working with fruityloops if i aint mistaken?
The soundportrait you show in this game is excellent, from the beginning to the end. Things that arent there is suddenly whispering right behind my shoulder, if you understand what i mean.

By the way, is it samples from a pornmovie in the track in the final fight?

I can only say that you are a pioneer in sounds in FPSC. Excellent job Butters.

Mega FPSCpack coming soon!

Textures for MagicFPS and music.

Thanks man. I work on Reason and Cooledit, but I'm just learning fruity at the moment, cuz it's powerful and fast.

Thanks for the comments on the sounds, me and my lovely lady did all the voices, but most of them are vocoded, or time stretched to make us sound like different people. played alot with the panning and reverb so it sounded like different distances from the player.

I'm working on Umbra Episode2 right now, and the sounds are going to be equally insane...

oh, and yes the sound track at the end is samples from porn, but most of it has been heavily messed with.. like when in turns into a raspy iron lung at the end?...that's actually still the same moans as the start, but with a bunch of effects.

Thanks for the interest, I kinda wanted to do something totally new with FPSC, and I think people don't put enough effort into their sounds!

Oh, and opposing force, the enemy at the end is a totally original model, not the HL2 zombie. I call them.... mind rapists.
or something...

that might be a bit too dark...

i finally played it, I can't say that I enjoyed it, mostly because of the fact the level is pitch black and following the flashing lights got me nowhere.

ok the flash light bit is hard. But who said that games had to be easy? heres the solution

first light, go straight on.
second light, turn 90 degrees right. then straight on
third light, turn 90 degrees right. then striaght on
4th light turn 90 degrees left then straight on
5th light turn 90 degrees right then straight on
6th light, when you reach it do a U turn on the spot, you will be able to see 2 lights. one high and one low. the one low is the one you just came from. go to the high on and turn right. walk into the sink to finish that section.

Downloaded it. Loved it.

Amazing work, butters.

In my opinion there were too many completely dark rooms which had only those flickering light in them. I got lost in them,

What an inspired game! Well done man. I too got lost in the lights and then had another go - just love the end enemies, scared my nearly to death! I think the game has a great seed of an idea that could make for a very interesting full game. Have you thought about sending it into PC Gamer or PC Zone for their cover mount DVDs?

I will ask Rich to mention the game in the Newsletter.

He used static entities. If you look in the scifi/wall furniture sections you can choose walls as entities, simple rotate them and position them and make them static - you can then jump on them.

I just watched your trailer, and it looks really good so far, but the first thing i reacted on was the music. As soon as i heard the first tones i realized that it was Aphex Twin's 'Yellow Calx'. I am a big fan of him. He is one of my biggest inspirations when im making music in Fruityloops. Do you you listen much too him to?

Maybe a bit late in seeing this but I found it very well done - excellent job on this loved it - My Son asked if you were on drugs while making it (he's 17) I just said Creative Talent is sometimes mistaken for drug induced Talent It reminds me some what of the dream sequence in max payne.

Well done

I downloaded this a while back, but have been having some computer problems, so I haven't been able to respond.

I liked your use of custom media quite a lot, and the lighting was good. The demented audio was also very complementary to the surreal atmosphere of the game. I enjoyed this quite a lot, and have to say that it is one of the more creative games I have run across on TGC for a while.

Awesome...

Great game, especially the sounds.
One error to report. When you fall down the sink, and go through the black wall, and into the blackness, where you could reach the other end of the corridor, but you fall through the floor before you can, if you jump past that, and the voice says 'you shouldn't be here!', it is possible to get out of the game, and end up walking on the roofs, by climbing up the tiles. Its not easy, but you can get out

<insert pun here> I really must get round to this
