Just wanted to apologize for starting that thread, I hadn't realized it violated the AUP. Won't happen again.

I personally don't think many of these threads deserve a locking, but hey. The mods know best, I suppose.

It was an interesting thread. I guess that it would have caused arguments though

Yeah, it would have. I read the news on MSNBC there, and it kind of got me mad that politicians would consider that. I guess I just wanted to talk about it. But it would have started an argument I suppose.

No, I know that, and thanks. Just thought I'd let you know I didn't mean to start anything.

I can see why that would have started an issue.

How sad and true it is that the world is changing generaly for the worse, and 50 years ago there would be no threads like these to lock, or at least they would be the minority.

Though 50 years ago we wouldn't have a forum either, but I get your point, and yes sadly this is true.

Have to say I thought the lock was premature. Current events are not an "Adult" subject, by locking it we are saying children should not be informed about what is going on in the world around them. Its bad enough most adults are clueless as to what is going on in the world, do we want kids to be ignorant as well?

There are a massive number of news sites, visit some of them if you want news.

When my dad went to school (back in the pre-stoneage era) they were aloud to bring pocket knives to school. My dad kept firecrackers in his locker and never got in trouble.

When my Pop was in school, all the kids played knife-throwing games in the yard during breaktime. It was like their version of Pogs.

Quite honestly, the world is a better place than ever. It's a better world that 50 years ago, the chance for dying in a war or dying from a disease were much greater. 100 years ago America was bout to plunge into the Great Depression. 200 years ago we'd just gotten out of the revolution and didn't know where the future of our nation lay, much less day to day events with the frontier to our west. The further we go back, the more volatile things get.

The only thing now is that we can all see everything on the news. That is a very new thing. The presence of the news filters everything. The brutality of the past will never be again, we are all given a power of objectance that the public never had before. Things are not getting worse, we all have a say and opinion that people never had before. Now is a better time to live than ever.

Well I guess what needs to happen first is we need to define "adult", so as everyone is not arguing over different perceptions of the word

Crime, especially violent crime, is at an all time low in the US, And that is taking into account all the things that went unreported 50 years ago like rapes, domestic abuse, and child abuse. Let alone lynchings to which the law looked the other way quite often. What has increased is media coverage of crime and it may present the illusion that things are worse now then ever, but it is just that an illusion. News reports are there to get ratings now, unlike years ago when it was more of a community service. How do they get people to watch? Show the most horrible acts again and again, stayed tuned for the 11pm newscast where we will try to shock you as best we can.

The world is safer than ever before. We are just shown the worst of the worst on TV over and over again. It gives us the perception that things are getting worse. In fact, it's not, but news coverage of bad things is just getting better.

It's not always a bad thing I guess. I think that having cameras in a war zone is a good thing because it prevents atrocities from happening like they did in Vietnam. It's no longer an enclosed environment in which soldiers can get away with anything, but it's a public performance that the entire world can watch.

Sorry if I'm annoying anyone by bumping this old thread, but I have a comment that I believe deserves to be posted.

Quote: "I personally don't think many of these threads deserve a locking, but hey. The mods know best, I suppose."

When mods lock threads, I see that they usually give some explanation, but when threads get deleted and you go back to them there's no explanation, it just says the thread has been deleted. Most of the deleted threads I looked at were perfectly normal the last time I saw them; no flamming or swearing or anything. They simply vanished. I assume someone posted an AUP violating post and the thread was deleted before I next looked at it. In my opinion, these threads should be locked, or at least the AUP violating post erased, but the whole thread deleted? I request a forum feature that allows mods to place an explanation for deleted threads if the title or first post isn't enough to see why it was deleted, because I have been perpexled by threads dissapearing. If this has no chance of being implemented in the forums, could the mods please only delete the post that was out of line, not the whole thread?

Thank you for allowing me to vent, I hope this is given some consideration.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=91662&b=1

If I posted anything that was against the AUP which caused these threads to be deleted (I'll post the second later), sorry about that. My intentions are good, but I worded something wrong in the one about the DBP editor, sorry if it sounded like it violated the AUP.

Unfortunately here in England, I would personally say that the story is very different in terms of safety.

It feels while the older issues, that dominated life in the years past they just seem to be getting replaced with bigger and worse problems.
Maybe it is because when I was younger it didn't seem as bad, or I was protected from it; but when I was a young teen, used to walk home at the early hours of the morning with no worries about being beaten, let alone beaten for no reason other than some teens felt like it.

Walking through the same streets now whenever I visit my family, and I can almost guarentee one group of people will start trouble.

It used to be one of the friendly and safest areas I knew of, and it's since just slipped in to feeling like I'm walking through a ghetto. Don't get me wrong it's not some sort of slums area, but it now has the same feeling of safety you get (or rather lack of)

imo, the world right now feels like it's getting worse. sure there is more coverage of the bad aspects; but without the news channels, entire communities just feel like they're loosing their identities and much less safe.

Don't sweat it Raven. If you're getting beat up, it's just because they don't like you. If you are carrying money, that makes you an even better target. They're like "Hey, that's Raven, that Jedi dork. Let's kick his ass and take his comic book money..."

Somehow I doubt it's because they know who I am, cause if they did they wouldn't be so stupid as to start in the first place.
Here there's a culture where you generally have a few families, that most of the "hard" wannabe's try to blag and name drop about because they think it makes them untouchable.

Remember distinctly last time I was down visiting my brother, and mom. Some chavs decided to attack me while I was comming out of the shop just around from my bro's place. After flooring one of them, he said he was gonna tell the "Lemmings" about me took out his phone and apparently called them. Starting mouthing off some more, which made me laugh ... still laughing when my bro pulled up and they were like "told you, Mike Lemming is here to sort you out!"; was kinda funny to see them scarper when they realised we were brothers. Found it more amusing when according to "chav lore" in the area I'm suppose to be serving 15years for man-slaughter or something.

It's not like I can't defend myself, but I certainly don't remember ever having really needing to as a kid outside of school. I mean you'd get in to the occassional pub brawl, but no one just started on anyone for no reason in the street.

Starwars was good, a nice mix of supernatural powers in a science fiction setting. It's a great blend of fantasy and science fiction, nicely balanced.

The biggest problem with superman comics and the like, is that the central character is too powerful. You either keep having to introduce enemy's that are equal or more powerful than he, ruling out humanity completely. Lets face it, in that universe, humanity would have been whiped out easily!

X-Men has a better balance, again meeting science fiction, with fantasy. There's no real scientic explination attempted for the X-Men's natraul abilities, neither is multiplyed by technology, with the exception of cyclops's visor. There's a balance in the story line, justifying the constant struggle.

I suppose this is why Heroes is really drawing from the X-Men universe. The only power that really gets me is the mirror thing, why mirrors? Why not control over glass specifically? Or have I not watched enough episodes? Certainly the image in the mirror being independant from the surroundings is odd, unless shes just insane and we're merely looking through her eyes. Has the series covered any of these questions yet?

@ Kenjar
I'm betting that's why Batman is more popular than Superman... Batman has all the human flaws the rest of us do.

The mirror is just a way for us to see both personalities at the same time. The last episode is in the past and shows some of their first encounters with their powers (most aren't obvious to the people). In her backstory the girl doesn't see both personalities looking in the mirror but you can see the change in her face to the evil personality.

Maybe it's just me, but the AUP is becoming a bit like the US law during prohibition; a complete joke. I mean, we see mods and various others blatantly flaunting the AUP; in what way does that even begin to persuade us not to do it ourselves?

Especially the "We do not tolerate posts made for the purpose of putting down another forum member" - when have I not seen that being done a mod....

A jab tossed in good fun is acceptable I think, but if you notice the person you tossed it at gets upset by the joke you should appologize (We are not all comedy writers you know). Berating someone in an "argument" is not good fun and generally such comments are designed to attempt to strengthen a weak position in the argument and lead to these flame wars.

I'm not Cash so I don't know his intentions above, but from the way it was written I think it was meant to be a joke.

as for this line
Quote: "If you read the AUP, we as mods are allowed to swear,"

You may be allowed, but under what circumstance would you need to point such things at another member. I can see it in a OMG I just hit the lottery kind of post, but otherwise generally not needed.

Huh? 'Splain where I've been "blatantly flaunting the AUP". If somebody were to, without warrant, personally insult you, I would have stuck up for you too.

-----------------------------

Dudes, this isn't a democratically run forum. There is a boss, and if you have issues, speak with him (Richard Davey). Under no circumstances should people be moanin' on here about mods. Obviously that will get you nowhere.

And mods are NOT here to be bastions of perfectness, without fail 100% of the time. We too are only human--- not robots. Cut some slack

EDIT:

Quote: "I'm not Cash so I don't know his intentions above, but from the way it was written I think it was meant to be a joke. "

Well, there are a few people who consistently attack others, and I'm not letting this one slide. If he or anyone else has issues with this comment, tell me in email. I didn't noob slap or ban him, although it wouldn't have been a problem if I did. Just wanted to give him a heads up that it's not cool.

If you have a problem with a mod, send Rich an e-mail. Don't bother complaining here as it will just stir more crap. If the mod is being unjust, Rich will do something about it privately. I know this has happened in the past and that is the best way to handle it.

To be fair guys, it's only one mod, Indi, and I think he's just having a very bad day. Either way, I've reported the post, just click on the red face or e-mail rich@thegamecreators.com he gives out his e-mail quite alot, or just go though support pages on www.darkbasic.com. I've e-mailed them via that system, it's a good way because you get a reply e-mail even if it's an "we're looking into it".

To be totally fair to all mods though, they do their jobs within the rules. It does demonstrate however how one mods somewhat over the top behaviour reflects badly on all the mods. Hopefully Indi will get a warning and cool it abit. At very most he should just be de-modded, and then moderated by the rest of the forum mods like the rest of us.

@Kenjar,

Why? While indi has done lots of modding, where did he mod inappropriately?

In fact, he only posted once in this thread (well twice now that's he's responded to you) to say everything was fine. You shouldn't just mention him out of the blue like that, especially right after Wolfs post. Were you slaped by him or something?

Well, I was slapped by him for a while, but I deserved it. True, I've had no history as a flamer as far as I can tell, but the way I worded my post made it sound really awful. There's no point in being bitter. I took it in stride, and you may have noticed I didn't stop posting because of it, if you noticed at all.

If you're angry about him locking your thread, go back an look at what you posted... it would have made a very interesting thread, but is well outside what is allowed on this forum. Talking about whether ghosts and such exists or not is attacking a belief system. It doesn't matter how you present it, there are just too many people on this forum who can't handle a topic like that in a mature manner. That's the kind of thing I might talk about with one of my friends, but not here. It's really a shame that the most interesting and thought provoking subjects turn into flame wars or religious debates here, but this is a forum where people don't like to change their beliefs about things posted.

thanks bizar, thats pretty mature, I guess thats why we solved your issue fast and had you back to unslapped status after one easy email identifying the issues with the problem.

I dont beleive in ghosts or anything spiritual, no god, no heaven, no hell etc.etc.
I know all religions are sexist to women and based on utopia and control.
Im an athiest. I dont force this down your throat and I sure as hell don't whinge when things get tough or when im breaking the rules that are clearly laid out for me.
Theres no way i can debate these things here as well as anyone else, it gives you no right to be different then anyone here.

nuff said, this is wasting more time over stuff clearly stated for you.

I'm the reason Kenjar's thread got locked, I'm sure. I got a little overboard when someone (don't even remember who, so I'm not holding it against you) came in and confronted me with a stupid question. I had to defend myself so I didn't look like an idiot. That's how these threads get locked. Everyone has to throw stupid comments around. We could have a peaceful discussion involving religion, but instead everyone attacks one another. That's why we can't, unfortunately, have these interesting discussions. I was reluctant to post what I did, and didn't plan on involving it at all, but Kenjar asked me to share, and from there it just went off the deep end.

Indi, in the DX10 thread, your replies to Kenjar were VERY uncalled for. I don't care if your a mod or the prime minister of Australia. Kenjar said and did nothing to deserve the flames you threw at him.

That's all I'm saying about that, so don't even reply back to me about it cause I won't answer. I'm not rekindling old fires, but I feel I owe Kenjar for getting his topic locked.

I didnt mean for it to be a stupid question :S (if my question is indeed the one you're talking about), it was an honest inquiry xD sorry if you thought it was against your beliefs or whatnot, i was just curious

9 times out of 10 I think most problems occur out of misunderstanding

Well, sorry I took it the wrong way. Just seemed like a smart alec post when I read it. Like I said, I don't hold it against you if that was you. I don't even remember for sure if it was you. However it goes, I'm not ashamed to post what I had posted here. If I get banned from the forum for my beliefs someday, I will consider that an honor. Not that I'm going to make problems on purpose or anything , I know it's against the rules, and I will respect that as far as I possibly can as with all the other rules.

good work guys, we really need to clean up the respect around here.
some users might not get it, but it really helps to gel it all together.

It's called email. How many times do we have to say this--- again and again. If you have issues, email us about it! Don't moan and whinge in a forum, because it's going to do absolutely nothing for you.

Well, the forum is here for us to discuss things. E-mail is appropriate for personal issues, but the forum is appropriate for discussing something about the forum.

indi, I like you, I think you're a good mod. And, I've had my own problems with Kenjar in the past. All that being said, I thought that your posts in the DX10 were uncalled for. You seem predisposed to attack Kenjar, and the tone of your messages were inconsistent with his own.

Now, about my own posts. They were jokes. A little mean, but jokes nonetheless. Raven is the king of exaggeration, and I've known him to make things up occasionally. If we aren't allowed to point that out, then we have a problem on the forum. Now, perhaps my two jokes weren't the best way to deal with that, but a little humor never killed anyone, and some things are just best delivered with a bit of levity.

If you think that it was worth a ban, then ban me. I don't think that I even came close.

You didn't point anything out to Raven, actually. You straight up started insulting him personally, and I wouldn't allow that of anyone. If you would have simply brought up that he may or may not be exaggerating, that is a *totally* different story.
