Hi, strange question this, but I thought it might be good to get a poll going.

If you're a coder (hobbiest or professional) and have at least one sibling, where are you in the age ranks?

Are you the eldest sibling? Youngest? Middle?

Just from a quick check on messenger, the four people I polled were all oldest sibling - just wondering if that's uncommon. Not the most earth shattering of threads, but certainly geek culture.

Second oldest, older brother, 2 younger brothers and a sister.

I'm the only one who codes, although my youngest brother is keen to learn some stuff.

Second oldest. My older brother has done some coding, but only in matlab for college.

My little brother and sister are both too young, so it's possible yet

I'm the oldest, but my brother can't even order a gift voucher from Amazon without getting it wrong, so maybe my situation doesn't count.

@Kenty - Flipping cheek!

I'm 31 and the oldest of two. I'm the brother and my younger sibling is my sister. She's 29. She once learnt a bit of Visual Basic but why she did that I have no idea. Mind you, I've NEVER understood my sister.

I'm the younger sibling of two brothers.
My older brother has never shown an interest in coding or pretty much anything to do with game design, but what's funny is that most of his friends do. I've never teamed up with my brother in making a game, but he's very creative when it comes to character design giving me some really good ideas, so perhaps one day i will .

I'm sort of middle. I have one younger brother, and two older brothers. Younger brother showed an interest in DB and html once, although he didn't get far, and one of my older brothers has to use Fortran at Uni, and used to play about in VB6 and DB. But as a hobby, none of them code...

I'm not spotting any patterns here .

Just one older sister (1.5 years older to be exact). She's not into programming at all--- she's in the army so she's more into blowing up bridges, shooting people, etc.

I'm the Oldest, of 2 younger sisters who's only interest (for them) is to chat on the computer. But no coding for them.

Uhh. I'm too lazy to fill this in right now. When I get the nvidia game further into working, I'll add a post to it.

Middle child, hobbyist hoping to go pro.

my older brother of 29 took Pascal in HS and C+ at OSU in the late 90's I think. I took the same Pascal class and even have some of his old code laying around. He can't really do any programming (its been years since he was in school) but he can at least understand me when I starting ranting about computers. I used a P75 computer in middle school until my brother gave me his P133 PowerSpec computer which I used throughout HS.

My younger sister is 22 and knows how to email. (she's majoring in musical theater at USC)

Youngest sibling; I'm 25. Although my brother has an interest in IT, he isn't a programmer by profession or hobby.

Now, I was going to add "and obviously, my sister doesn't hold much interest in computers". However, it looks like, given the circumstances, that might be considered a sexist remark

Your all old!

Get ready for it, I am the third eldest of nine! My older brother did HTML and Java at uni but hates DBP (Becasue I use it and he does it to annoy me! So no he hasn't helped me make any games!) then I have an older sister, another sister just under me, the a brother then twin brothers then another brother and last but definatley the most beatiful is our 20 month old sister! She's so cute! She has a large vocabulary that can cheer up even the most terrible of moods!

Thats it!

Oh none of my brothers or sisters show any interest in programming or game dev!

well lets see now :/

i have an older sister and a younger brother.

my sister is a myspace addict (which is really annoying as we share the same room currently. and she always take pictures or laughs hysterically at some text).

my brother is a "criminal". been busted twice by the cops for stealing.

me, you know me

my father is a real gamer. :/ if he is not playing video games he eats, sleep or play guitar. (he's a musical teacher).
i bought Fear once, i played it for two hours then my father grabbed it and "went to work" with is laptop.

i'm the second youngest (22yrs), i have a younger sister (20) and then i have 3 other sisters and 2 brothers >>;; just, dont comment xD

my oldest brother who is into his late 30's by now was a bit of a genius when it came to anything electronical. My first memory of programming is being 8 years old and my uncle sitting me down infront of his bbc micro computer and giving me beebem magazine with a bricky nicky code listing to type out - to teach me a little coding and how to type apprantly xD my second memory however is at that same micro where my oldest brother sat me down and we spent the day rewriting centipede to do fun stuff (diffrent colours, mushrooms behaving differently)

but mind you he was the sort of person that ordered microchips from goodness knows where and took apart the bbc and the comadore and customised them for whatever purpose - i never learned that side of things!

par us 2 though no one else really got into coding/electronics.

Youngest, brother is 21, sister 23.

I code, my brother did programming at college, got bored, dropped out, although making a Mario demo in Pascal, went into cooking and has become a chef, my sister used to draw up game ideas as a kid, but never wanted to get into it, she's into 2D digital art. Dad did Amos with the Amiga, programmed me a little game as a kid, but as a banker, I wanted to learn AMOS at 5/6 because I wanted to make a Monkey Island like game, he said it would take me a weekend to get started and never did teach me. Few years later, I'm doing game programming

Although not part of the poll, but thought the extra info could be of some use.

I'm oldest, my younger brother is into video games, but not really making them, he's not patient enough. I have made a few deals with him that I play football with him for x minutes if he'll let me teach him how to program and/or model for x minutes. I don't think he hates it, he just thinks it takes too long, but I think he kind of likes modelling, because he always tries to bargain for that instead of programming (but I don't let him, because there's not much you can teach in terms of modelling past the basics). I actually don't personally know anyone else who programs, or even anyone very interested in video games , wish I did though .

I have an older brother whose 34 and a younger sister whose 23. My brother does 3D modeling and my sister was a photography major prior to having a kid fall out of her. I was hoping to use her pictures in a puzzle game but I can't work out how to get her to pick up the camera again So much talent lost.

I'm the second to youngest out of 5 (4th)... and not a single one of my siblings has the faintest idea how to code

(my Dad remembers programming on punch cards, but he hasn't programmed recently, although he was able to help me by showing me proper flowcharting since he taught a begining computer science course a long time ago)
