Hey all.

Recently discovered, thanks to Benjamin.., a great little online 2d game called Soldat.

You can download the game from http://soldat.pl/main.php it is a truly great game. Full on war with up to 30 bots, team deathmatch, death, match, capture the flag. It is truly vast.

It's all very well playing against the bots but most of them are stupid. Just wondering if anyone on these here forums played this game apart from me, Ben and Megatron.

Cheers,
Rich

I played it for about 1 minute with a few bots. Benjamin hooked me up with it when we were testing multiplayer shanizzles. I would be willing to crack it open for a bit of TGC soldat play if you wanted a bash. It looked alright. Maybe get a few of us together and fire some assault weapons at each other.

I'm trying to be as modest as I can here, but the servers and all it's occupants still tremble every time someone mentions the word "Cat Knifer".

Heh, funny you mention that...

I used to utterly pwn at soldat. I started playing with version 1.19 (I think) where the barrett was utterly overpowered... that got old quickly, but then the new patch came out for 1.20, and that was the best it\'s been. I would play the awh ctf server for about two hours every day, and trust me, awh were really good.. but I still pwned the hell outta them. Sniph was the man who started the knifing revolution, but after the two vids he made everybody started doing it, and he was no way the best knifer. I was about equal in his skill with teh knife, but I was frickin\' amazing with a m79. I wonder if I still have that replay where I was playing on b2b with a bunch of newbs and the entire awh clan - I got a cap within the first 20 seconds of play, thanks to my extremely agressive grenade jumping tactics. Eventually being the best got boring (and I got tired of all the cries of \"WTFH4xoRZ!!!\"), and I messed around with other weapons - got pretty good with the ak74 before it got nerfed in 1.21, then I started using the hk like every other little nubby out there, and things went downhill after that. Quit playing because there was no skill involved anymore.

Oh yeah, and the bots are useless, even on the so called \"impossible\" setting. Trust me, there\'s nothing like a little 8v8 on Nuubia to seperate the men from the boys

Sorry Hawkmeow, never seen anyone owning with an m79 while I was in the same room.

Good weapon for easy kills on slow folks, but I was swirling around like a lunatic with an FN mini, grenades, and a knife. About 1 in every 3 of my kills was with a knife.

Barret was nerfed yeah, but that only made more people suck with it. Still owned using it on wide-scale maps.

Prrrrr.

Nah dude, you're missing the whole point! You use toss a grenade in a ditch, jump over it and fire your m79 and BOOM! off you go hurtling towards the enemy base. Done properly, you can get all the way from one side of ctf_run to the other without touching the ground. Then you throw your knife, grab some health and nades, grab their flag, and repeat the process, sailing through the blue blue sky back to your own base. Tactic works on virtually every map, even in dm maps - ever tried to shoot somebody sailing through the air at 50 mph? Not easy

Well let's analyse this.

The FN mini can kill up to 7 enemies a clip I believe. This is the reason you and I both can get so many kills with that gun.

So what you do, is charge at your enemies like a noob, die over and over again, then when you respawn, you instantly draw out your knife and chuck it at someone. It all makes sense.

You see, I prefer to use more skill and try not to get killed too much, whereas you noobs just charge in, and die loads of times. I do recall times where you had more deaths than kills but still won.

It's not a bad game.

Assuming you can stay alive long enough AND assuming every bullet hits where it counts. The FN is designed more for supporting your team, or spraying from a distance. you need to capitalize on the rate that you mow through enemies in dm matches, for example, the HK has the second fastest reload time in the game and can mow through a couple of enemies very quickly. Face it, a 5:1 kill to death ratio is about as high as you're gonna get. I don't care how often I die if I keep mowing through the bad guys at a accelerated pace.

I still get a good kill/death ratio, no matter how I get it.

Well I can manage on average about 5 a clip.

EDIT2: nevermind, found where it lists IP, but I can't find TGC ip one .

Benjamin: Sorry son, that's not how you win.

I don't care if you played like a Buddhist monk or you camped or you just ran around in circles - if you get more kills then anyone else in the room, you win. And in a 2d game like Soldat, you can't do that by simply being a moron.

So ditch the excuses and admit you get owned up in public games because you don't have any crowd-control skillz.

This isn't a Navy SEALS simulator - it's a video game. You're supposed to knife/shoot people up, die in an inferno of gunfire, respawn, and repeat, only slightly better.

Alright, everyone takes their own approach I guess. I take my approach, noobs take theirs. It's not like it matters that you're cheap anyway.

Anyway, are you planning on playing with us any time soon? It would be fun..
