Looking at what Grant Clark did in the latest newsletter with explosions I wanted to make my own. I was checking out ExGen earlier and it's kinda nice but it can't do all the things Grant Clarks explosions do.

So, what software have you used and what's the best?

Yeah, I found that earlier thanks to Rich and it looks cool. Too expensive for me at the moment and I also don't need all the features.

Seems like ExGen is the best option for me at the moment but it doesn't seem capable of saving an alpha chanel. Although I can easily remove the back background in Photoshop they don't look as good as they could with some propper alpha.

I think the October newsletter (or the November one) had a tutorial from geecee3. There was a downloadable special effects pack which may be of use ...

I actually use Paint Shop Pro 8 for explosion since it has many built in plugin effects.

Sorry - I can't believe how incredibly stupid my post is. I've just re-read your question.

I'm probably not gonna use PSP but I'll take a look.

Here is an example of what PSP can do.

I created explosion1.bmp in 10mins, then use PSP to created various effects to get the result that I want.

I will be releasing a shooter game soon with all graphics done with PSP.
