OSX 10.3.9 + runs on a 350mhz and upwards. Vista would slug along with a system of that level.
I know XP doesn't like 400mhz and lower, it runs sluggy. linux on the same machine depending on the GUI or Xwindow system can be faster or slower.
I found out the other day the first virus ever to hit the networks was on an apple DOS box.
yes in the old days apples used a dos like interface, dir = catalogue etc..
interesting tidbit.

A program called "Elk Cloner" is credited with being the first computer virus to appear "in the wild" -- that is, outside the single computer or lab where it was created. Written in 1982 by Rich Skrenta, it attached itself to the Apple DOS 3.3 operating system and spread by floppy disk. This virus was originally a joke, created by the high school student and put onto a game. The game was set to play, but release the virus on the 50th time of starting the game. Only this time, instead of playing the game, it would change to a blank screen that read a poem about the virus named Elk Cloner. The computer would then be infected.
The first PC virus was a boot sector virus called (c)Brain, created in 1986 by two brothers, Basit and Amjad Farooq Alvi, operating out of Lahore, Pakistan. The brothers reportedly created the virus to deter pirated copies of software they had written. However, analysts have claimed that the Ashar virus, a variant of Brain, possibly predated it based on code within the virus.

the gui is 41 years old now and no it wasnt xerox, it was Doug Englebart – at the time an employee of Stanford Research Institute. 1965-8
the first affordable personal gui looked like this.
then the commodore kids will recognize this lil gem.
in the middle we had the amiga days
OS 3 - 9
then next
then finally OSX.
win 3.1
win 3.11
95
98
98se
monkey edition
XP
and finally Blister
and i didnt mention the linux flavours etc and the umpteen propietry oses.
anyway 41 years later and we still have a 2d interface with potentially more fatale code that causes grief to thousands daily. A backwards step if you ask me.
