Yep, it's called desensitization. But I have no desire to see blood and gore, how matter how fake, as a form of entertainment. It's little better then roman gladiator games to my mind, taking pleasure from a major misfortune to someone else. Even if it's happening to fake, made up characters, the natural human reaction to it is as if it's real, certainly the first few times. It speaks to a very dark area of human phycology.

Yeah, but you still have no idea what the series is about, you seem to think it's just ... 'OH LOOK... BLOOOOOOOOOOD!'

When it's not. <_<

Personally, I don't find the actions of the cheerleader worrying. She's not portrayed as a self-harming teenager trying to feel something, or even get attention. She's discovered that she can heal almost any kind of injury and has probably had this ability for years - hence the absentminded gaffe of putting the hand in the waste disposal grinder to retrieve what she had dropped. She'd just forgotten that you just don't do that.

As for the throwing herself off buildings, and getting hit by a car etc - well, she's got a power and she wanted to test the limits of it, and possibly there was a bit of showmanship in it too - after all, why else would they videotape it?

In my opinion, the cheerleader that you see in the first few episodes is mind-explodingly well adjusted to her ever-so-normal American dream life - she's popular and well off, pretty and athletic. She's not 'self harming' so much as experimenting - the equivalent of seeing how long you can hold your breath for, or how many pushups you can do in ten minutes.

But still - if people don't like the series, then that's perfectly up to them. I enjoy it and find it harmless - and each to their own in that respect. I'm not trying to convince someone else to like a series - that way lies foolishness.

I needed desensitization... believe me it's a whole lot of no fun growing up with a weak stomach.

That's just one character... sure there's a psychopathic killer that slices the tops of peoples heads off but the other characters rarely see blood/gore. I personally don't like seeing horror movies... it's just something I never watched as a kid and can't see any enjoyment in it. But this show isn't about wholesale slaughter it's about how the characters deal with their newfound powers... the good and the bad.

Meh that wasn't so good.

I had high hopes for it as well...

The writing was pretty bad, when it was trying to be witty, it wasn't ("God is a cochroach"................. LOL!!!!), and when it was trying to be epic, it wasn't ("Why do we dream, what is a soul??").

Plus the 100% ripped the paint-something-before-it-happens idea from a major arc in District X, which is just shameful, lazy and possible illegal.

The OC-esc music montage was also pretty hard to watch.

In the end I think I enjoyed it more than it annoyed me, but I didn't have any great desire to watch the next episode. I will, though, sometime...

There are only two things ever outside of Marvel and DC to do superheroes well - Unbreakable and Powers.

Of cause I understand what it's about, I went into a reasonable amount of detail on the subject, concluding that the show didn't offer enough pro's to cover the con's.

She removed the ring intentionally and dropped it down there. She jumped off a high place, and seemed more annoyed that she recovered than "oh this is a wonderful thing", and walked into the fire with the clear intention of causing perminiant injury of some kind, remaining very somber and detached from the whole thing, constantly.

Quote: "there was a bit of showmanship in it too - after all, why else would they videotape it?"

That is a good point, I'd forgotten about the tape to be honest. She did make a big fuss about getting the tape off her friend though didn't she? She clearly didn't want it to go futher then her friend, and there was certainly no thrill in what she was doing. No andrenalin rush or anything. Her depression seems to derived from feeling like an outsider, and a freak, combined with guilt over not telling her parents.

very true, I'm only discussing it because it's something to discuss, as I assume everone else is. It's just opinions after all.

lol, well I'm 26, and never bothered to desensitize. My father always said to me, that there was enough bloody violance in the world without having people turn it into entertainment. I happened to agree with what he said.

Thanks for the heads up (no pun intended), I'm definately not watching the series if that's being showing in full view! Thanks, you've confirmed more or less what I thought was coming.

I know it's not, but that doesn't change the fact that there are overly graphic scenes.

I suspect the other reason I'm not rushing to see it, is that I'm not finding the concept of it wholely orginial. I've read a heck of alot, and I've written alot of short stories, poems and other works myself. Heck I'm writing a novel, attempting to introduce a new twist with the hero fad that's going on right now. Having seen alot of X-Men, spider man, superman, dare devil, the flash, justice league, and batman cartoons, films, comics and even radio plays. I don't think hero's is really going to add anything new. I can see what it's trying to do, and if I was 10-6 years younger there might well be a big wow factor in it for me. It's quite funny really, I remember going up to my dad and telling him in a very excited way, the wonderful story I'd just read, or something I'd seen on TV that day. I was always annoyed and puzzled that he never seemed to find the idea thrilling or exciting. Today I understand it completely!

Please watch it again, she was supprised to see someone in there. See looked at the fire, when outside, and directly asked how hot it was, then ran off into it.

Yes. I'm defending your point of view, as I agree that Heroes is not the best show

We can always just agree to disagree. It's a sad fact but not everybody likes the same shows. My favorite movie genre is post-apocalyptic... how many people like that?
