After watching this video, I actually want a Nintendo Wii console. AND I HATE CONSOLES! It's definately a step up from the old keyboard and mouse combo! I'd love to try it out in a virtual lightsaber duel in something like Jedi Knight II or III

It's no worse than anything you see on daytime TV. Just watch any music channel, and keep an eye on the adverts. Heck, just watch an episode of Baywatch!

Hah! Kanjar, those were awesome! I've actually seen the second one before but that first one got my day off to a good start

Agreed, but you should be careful Kenjar. indi just slapped higgins for calling someone an uber noob so you never know... maybe the aup is changing

[edit] In fact, the wii vs. ps3 has been posted here with no one complaining. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=86493&b=2

I am sure Indi is just doing what he thinks is best. Moderating can't make you too popular with some in the long run, but he does do his job.

And I agree with him being restricting posting priviliages for calling someone an uber noob, noob is a very offensive term that did become somewhat of a standard backhanded insult. I must admit I am not sorry that people have stopped using that term, and I'm sure that's down to the moderators efforts in that reguard so keep up the good work!

Tinkergirl was going on about the Wii controller a while ago, I have to admit I didn't pay much attention as I dislike game consoles and console games as a rule, but that Wii controller is definately something special. It's a bit like imaginative role play, I used to run all over the mountain having pretend sword fights with my three brothers. It's kind of like that with consoles, no longer are people just sitting on their bums hitting buttons, but playing a virtual game of tenis, virutal fishing, virtual golf and others. While it can never replace sports, it's a good compromise between console playing and real life games. I hope to see more games that rely on motion sensor technology rather than just hitting buttons on a keyboard. Gamepads always seemed something of a backwards setup compaired to the mouse and keyboard combo, but this Wii controller is definately real evolution in the industry!

Just a suggestion Kenjar, would it makes sense to put a warning up over the 2nd one saying it might be unsuitable for younger people?

Apart from that, cool videos, I especially like the first one, I think it'd be a great marketing video for Nintendo

Well with the second video, you will have to consider there are immature minds on these forums, where there are parents, perhaps if this was a geek forum directed at a more professional audience, then I wouldn't see a problem with the video, but then you see that sort of thing all over TV as said I mean god how can they make people see horribly annoying fat girls like her (just kidding, I know its the who sexual thing with the other one)

I think the first one was good, I was expecting the kid to say something worse though, because kids I see in my area are hard core swearers, so I expected a little more from a 'wii' lil lass.

I have to admit, I assume most users on this forum are at least 15 or older. There might be a few gifted 13 year olds I guess, but I doubt anyone younger would really be much interested in these forums, or programming in DarkBASIC. Certainly most of my friends at school (about 11 years ago I admit) thought programming was boring! And would never have got to grips with DarkBASIC. I might be wrong, I often am, but when I post here I do assume that most people on here are over 15. Certainly the average 15+ isn't going to batter an eyelid over this stuff, not after watching the majority of 15 rated filmes these days... what rating was american pie again?

I don't think anyone over the age of 0 would "batter an eyelid" over this stuff. Which part exactly is causing the offence?

Which part is actually the cause of the "boreline" offense? The implication that fat women who like Star Trek are unattractive? The hotpants?

I don't find the first one funny. If you have kids and they cuss like that... if you laugh or think it's cute to hear them cuss the child picks up on that and they'll keep cussing and you won't be able to stop them. They'll usually do it at the worst possible moments. If you discipline them for cussing they'll avoid it because they know you don't like it and they might get spanked (or whatever)... until their teenagers and do it just to make you mad.

The second one was really funny. The third one I kept waiting for the pig to get slaughtered... it was funny too but it mostly made me hungry for bacon.

Its borderline, because it is suggested sexual, there are parents that don't like their kids being exposed to suggested sexual videos and if the person was caught unaware, they get a slap around the head, which is why a warning would be best.

It's very cheaky girls, some of the camera zooms, and guestures now I watch it a second, time could give some people pause. On the other hand, I see worse walking down my street in the summer. Hot pants at least cover a little more than the average bikini bottoms. It's the way of the world. It's a clever bit of advertizing by nintendo though. Either way, as Indi said, it is boarderline, and about the absolute limit that can be posted here.

Anywho, that Wii controller is definately a nice bit of hardware.

Well, I just watched the videos.
After seeing the second one, I would sure like to get my hands on a wii. Looks to be awesome fun that I would have a hard time putting down. I better stay away though... it would be sure to get me in trouble with the wife.

Actually, I don't believe the second video was created by Nintendo - it's a ripoff of the PC/Mac adverts with the two guys standing there saying "Hi, I'm a Mac"... "And I'm a PC"

Someone (or a group of several someones) decided it'd be fun to do a ripoff of that series of Mac adverts, but with the Wii and PS3. I found it funny - they're both smart, brave girls

In the second video, Tinkergirl is the woman on the left whereas the woman on the right is a computer generated animation. Very clever if you ask me. Also a very clever conspiracy, involving rotating trees and doughnuts. It was later found out that the trees were rotated on the turntable of a microwave, that in turn melted into tasty bite-size doughnuts, which made the owner angry and started world war 2!&&&11szqqs

That was not an actual commercial rather a spoof, I can't remember where it originate from. But I can see the borderline offense, it does claim that the girl who represents the Wii is cheap, kids may not get it but a parent should.

How could you disagree? I mean relatively speaking, could you imagine the difference of one night out for dinner?

Hmmm... I better go watch that vid again. I love the way they show the "rumble" feature near the end. Shakey, Shakey

The third one was good, but the little girl swearing wasn't very good at the end of the first although it did make me want to play a Wii. The little girl made the thing look easy(except when she screwed up the end)

To be fair, almost every kid screws up with putting without lots of practise. If she had gotten it in, I would have been a bit suspicious... And I didn't think her swearing was funny at all... It made her cuteness factor go down a couple notches.
Swearing isn't cute, plain and simple, weather you mind it or not. It didn't bother me much, but it certainly wasn't cute.

So, was the moral that one is cheap and fun for a few hours? Then you get bored after discovering they are shallow and dumber than the alternative, and offer little intellectual stimulation?

I reckon the first vid would make a great nintendo advert, cute little girl getting into the golf game, then messing it up on the last shot. It'd be better than most next gen adverts - really, anyone understand those cruddy PSP ads? - what are they, mexican hairballs? - what a rediculous waste of an advertising budget. Simplistic adverts with games, and showing how they're playing these games is gonna be a lot more succesful than those pointless tumbleweed carpet watchers (there's carpet you can watch outside?, yeah, for the last 25 freakin years Sony, get with the programme!).

Well, it is hard to find a new angle in this day and age. I suspect they thought "it would look different on TV" and thus catch peoples attention. But Sony are terrible and humanizing their products. This is the problem with the company, it's like dealing with a damned glitchy robot.

I liked the PS2 commercial:

Doesn't really make me want to buy a PS2, but it's still cool.

What was the point of that advert. It didn't show the PS3 PS2 or PSP in action, it didn't explain why it's a good machine, it didn't demonstrate anything really, apart from the fact that human beings will likely trample each other to death just to get on top... actually doesn't that say alot about sony? They are out to trample over everyone! Customer, and competitor alike, the only point of their existinace is to stand on top of the pile! Lets just hope they get thrown off the top

I remember seeing this one. I think it´s an advert for shops, supermarkets and games publishers more than the consumers. It reminds them that the ps2 is on top and has millions of users. Or it could just be an ego trip. Who knows.
