I only did it because I knew my little brother would be taking it too, so I had to take it and beat him!
, otherwise I'd never hear the end of it.
That's about the most useful these tests are, settling arguments. Personally, nothing annoys me more than people assuming their smarter than me, or assuming I'm stupid. In Scotland, being a computer programmer just means you sit at a desk all day - you get no credit for the noodles it takes. I had this one guy I knew, he was always going on about how clever he was, so we both did an online test, I beat the little git by 31 points!!!. IQ's not important, but it's nice to be able to prove your not an idiot (on paper at least)
.
I really dislike the way they try and categorise people with them, like this person is blonde, this person is fat, this person can play the piano, this person watches BBC2 etc etc - I mean, what the hell does it all proove, the shifts were usually in the 1 point mark, so I'd say they proove nothing, there's so many deciding factors in someones IQ. I prefer to guage it on the percentage, like a lot of tests tell you which percentage you are, 130 is top 2%, 100 is supposedly 50% (average). At the end of the day though, there's few tests in job interviews nowadays, IQ does'nt guage how well you perform academically, how much you earn, how bright your kids will be, in fact the only people worried about IQ rates are Mensa. Talent, personality and confidence are much more important.
