i want to know because i feel so strongly about the quality of this game, but i have played most versions of sonic the hedgehog and i love all of them! Sonic is such a good game especially for its time.

I want to know, who diagrees and who agrees?
is Sonic the hedgehog just another game on the shelf?
or is it a really good one?

I mean even the TV program rules! i loved the TV program watched it whenever i could and p'ed myself laughing

EDIT: who is your favourite sonic character?
mine is "Miles Prowler" known as "Tails" as in my avatar

I always liked Sonic, although these days I'm a bit too slow and old for Sonic games, I have the NDS Sonic game, and it's very cool - like the original megadrive versions but supercharged, damn I suck at Sonic these days though. I played a lot of Sonic 2's 2-player mode, far more entertaining than Mortal Kombat and the other typical 2-player games of the day (ToeJam and Earl, gimme a break!).

Personally I'd say my all-time favorite was Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, pretty insane game, but I suppose that's part of what Sonic was about, pushing the most out of the hardware, like really fast and smooth running/jumping in the first 2D games, then Sonic Adventure was way ahead of it's time on the DC, and now Sonic is all grown up and on the 360 looking great.

yup i own a dreamcast, they are awesome. my favourite was sonic 2 for megadrive though, played it for hours on end for over a year lol i was addicted, i even sorta like the sonic tetris game for megadrive called "Dr Robotniks mean bean machine" sonic adventure for dreamcast was pretty cool but i pefer the full platform ones

EDIT: van whos your favourite sonic character? and if u ever saw the TV program did you like it?

Jess: come one, Emos aren't real people

On topic: I liked Sonic until he left the megadrive. the addition of all the other lame characters just makes the newer games utterly tedious.

the whole point of Sonic was to run, really fast. I don't want to mess about with robots shooting things or digging for a bit of an emerald. All I want is to play as a bright blue supersonic hedgehog, who's fighting a load of robots made by some guy with a moustache, I don't even care why I'm fighting, or why I'm running around, I just want to do it.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

Hehe, yeah I think good old Sonic is my fave character, too scared to proclaim my love for Tails now...

Never watched the cartoon, but I think I've played every game now, damn there's a lot of Sonic multipacks!, IMO the new characters are kinda gimmocky, like they have special bodyparts added just to allow them to do something unique - started and should have ended with Tails, really I think Knuckles and co are fairly pointless gameplay wise.

What's all this talk about "emos" lately? What is it actually? Is it just short for "emotional people" ?

Oh... well i don't like that. Guess i'll jump on the bandwagon. Still "attention seekers" covers a wiiide range of people. Hating them all would prove to be difficult as with a wider range there is bound to be more and more exceptions.

@VanB

I agree, knuckes was okay but they should've stopped at tails, then i go buy sonic advance and they have amy, knuckles, sonic and tails. i mean a pink hedgehog who whacks things with a love hammer....PLEASE! thats lame! but sonic pretty much went to doodoo after sonic the hedgehog 2 for mega drive, although i must admit sonic adventure was good and i like sonic heroes for the PS2

Emos are a sect of depressed teenagers, they love dressing up in black and wearing making, sort of similar to goths in the respect of dress sense, they write poetry, as my emo friend says 'Bad poetry' (Yes I have an emo friend, he was a friend that went emo, I'm not prejudiced, so I have an emo friend, even if I do call him emo all of the time) They also tend to listen to whiny metal, like Fall out Boy. Mostly a laughing stock of the metal world, but some are alright people. Some are just attention seekers of course, because they want to be cool, they're trendies, you get them in any sect of society.

Sonic was cool. I used to love the the Sega incarnations, but as soon as it jumped to 3d it was all downhill. I can't stand any modern incarnations of Sonic anymore.

The ooold TV shows were good, but I haven't seen many of the recent ones, so I can't rate them. But from what I have seen it looks ok.

Thanks for the in-depth Sekkupu. I can understand they might seem annoying for many, but if you might get to know one it's propably not that bad (as you said). If it's something i DO hate, it is generalization.

Tails Rules. The classic sonic games were the height of gaming for me, but nowadays, the games are too rushed, thus the release version plays like you'd imagine the beta would.

Edit: At least they got the music right this time. More time spent listening than playing.

toejam and earl is pretty awesome! and they pulled of 3 good 3D sonics that i've seen, Sonic Heroes(ps2), Sonic Adventure(dreamcast) and sonic adventure 2(dreamcast)

EDIT:
Quote: "I gotta say, my fave char. was Dr. Robotnick."

i always loved the robotnik music and killing him and stuff but then they renamed him eggman and made him lame...and he was really funny, some egg shaped moustached nut job who designs robots for the purpose of killing sonic....those were the days, where games were games. ive seen pathetic platform games like mario (sorry mario fans) and all these new platforms that are horrible, i'd rather play sonic anyday

well you guys may think im crazy but i wished that they continued the 2D sonic platform series.

Personaly just looking at the new sonic game sort of pisses me off... I'd have to say sonic is his best in 2d, especialy Sonic Rush for the DS, which I'm pretty sure is the greatest Sonic game ever. I'm actualy really exited about the Wii Sonic game, which looks like they've really got the whole 3d sonic thing down.

Is someone having a sonic conversation without me? Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 are the best games EVER! I cannot choose between Sonic or Tails (Miles Prower!) for my favourite character. I play a lot of Sonic games, old and new, on many different formats on a regular basis. Sonic 2 was the first game I owned, got it for Christmas in 1993 with a Mega Drive II. Sonic is a true legend and will continue for as long as video games do.

I maybe out of step here but wasn't the pure platformer genre killed off by 3d?

One of the key aspects to the games was that the "camera" position was always optimal (side on) so the player could always see if they could jump to the next platform or time it pixel perfectly, or see if the other side was higher or lower.

The introduction of the 3d camera to the platformer always just seems to get in the way. Various things have been tried, cameras that do not go through the scenery (leaving you at a wierd angle - no longer behind your character), cameras that do (making the game less pretty), cameras that you control yourself (making the whole process needlessly fiddly). But fundamentally, a camera directly behind a character in a 3rd person view is never as good a view (from a gameplay pov) as the old side-on view used in the 2d platformer.

The only 3d platform game I can think of that actually worked was Jumping Flash for the PSX. They used a first person view (only!) and used a concept of huge jumps where you used your ground shadow, and a look down at your feet feature to enable the player to precicely control their jumps and landings.

Nex7 was a sidescroller too. I think that was the name, maybe not... It was pretty cool. It had a gravity gun-like weapon, but you couldn't really manipulate scenery stuff much, mostly just smashing enemies into walls and stuff.

EDIT: not sure that was the name afterall... can't find it on google, so don't take my word for it.

Not sure what one it was, but I liked the sonic on the Sega console. I can't remember what it was either, not the dreamcast. It hat cartridges.. I was too young to remember that much. But I remember that all I had to do was hit right and b and wham! instant entertainment. Though, the newer Sonics are pretty dumb. Nothing like the sega one.
