Hey ric,
I'll buy it, i just have a question.

Can i import my own media if there isnt one in there that grabs me? and how many health bars / FPS type media come with it.

And when will the demo be out and do you have any pics of it in action in any games

Opposites are different, not wrong

Hi Inverted,

Yes, the media library is fully expandable - adding new media into the library is easy using the 'import' button. I also intend to release some media add-on packs in the future, and the first one of these will be free to people with GUI Studio - so if there any particular styles you want me to include, let me know. I've already had a request for some medieval styled graphics.

In the standard library, there are 8 different styles of healthbar so far, all of which can be modified in terms of their colour and segmentation. You can also add healthbar holders, as in the example below, where a standard glass tube healthbar is housed within a graphite holder.

I've created a quick interface within GUI Studio to show you how you might construct an interface for an FPS game - the top screnshot shows it being created in the editor, and the bottom one shows you it working in 'FPS Preview mode', to give you an idea of how it might look in your own fps game. Of course, the interface I created is just what I've come up with by bolting a few entities together - you would create it and style it to suit your own tastes and needs.

As for a demo - hopefully some time next month.

It would be cool to have some type of menu system in this as well.

Or is that already possible by having buttons in an arrangement hidden/revealed at appropriate times?

Do you mean as in a drop-down menu? There isn't a dedicated tool for creating drop-down menus in this version - although as you say, it is possible to create one using buttons or switches, and then use the hide entity/show entity commands available in the included set of functions.

Perhaps I'll incorporate a dedicated menu creation system if I ever write a version 2, though.

They are provided as functions in an include file, and are linked to the IDE with a keyword file and help files. They behave just like native dbpro commands, in that they will get highlighted in blue, will display their syntax in the status bar at the bottom, and will open a help file if you hit F1. The include file, keyword and help files are all installed automatically by GUI Studio - you don't need to do anything.

There is a theme in it for panels called Dungeun, but further you have to place gems and adjust some things, and it looks RPG stylish.

Ill get a screenshot up(My Graphics of the game are WIP though...dont note those...its an engine in works ,also im still working on the GUI,as it looks terrible for now...only to show you the RPG style graphics.)

X1b: I'm currently working on on the first media pack which will hopefully be available within the next two weeks. It will include a number of elements suited towards the medieval fantasy rpg genre, as well as others. As I think I mentioned, this first media pack will be free to all GUI Studio users.

@POD: The text in your screen shot looks very blocky - is that using the headline tool? If it is, try increasing the font size - it should produce text which is silky smooth.

Hi

I am i n the market for a gui editor. It is between blue2 gui and this gui studio. Any opinions which is the best? What are the advantages of gui studio?

I need to buy soon, I hope someone can answer. This is a good issue to address anyway.

Hi,

I couldn't say one is 'best' overall - they have different uses. One will probably be 'best for you', depending on what you need it for.

I have described what I think are some of the main difference over on the GUI Studio forum, at http://www.andromedus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61.

Although, as the author of GUI Studio, I can't claim to be neutral of course!

I decided to purchase GUI studio. I think it is better for creating in game interfaces. If I ever need to build a windows style application I will buy Blue GUI. I suggest you all check the GUI Studio forum for the comparison. Ric did a nice job explaining it. I hope this helps other people.

I'm always looking for shortcuts to save work, so this is somewhat interesting, but it's definitely a 'try before you buy' sortof thing. There should be a demo?

Perhaps a short movie to watch
and then make available the source code that was generated from the user actions on the video?

I'm unique, just like everybody else.

Making that source avaialable will give away the whole system to load GUI's...

as it generates a .gse file wich is loaded with Functions.

I understand wanting to try a demo first, but I took the plunge and have been playing with gui studio and I tell you it does everything it says. It is a very nice editor. And I wanted a feature that will help me and Ric says he will put it in he next release. Hows that for service! I recommend this software highly. I am very pleased by this service.

Hi - I do intend to release a demo in the near future. It will probably take the form of a video to show the editor being used to create an interface, and a compiled demo of the final result being used in a dbpro project.

I does exactly as is advertised and is worth every cent. Most of all I have had fun just experimenting and making my gui's. Works great and makes gui creation fun and easy with slick proffesional results.

As requested, a new video section has been added to the website, for you to view demonstrations of GUI Studio in action: http://www.andromedus.com/html/videos.html

So far there are two videos showing some very simple layouts being created. You can't do anything too fancy in a short video, nor can you go into all of the various features .... but it gives a general idea of how things are done. I may add more videos in the future.

Ric, there is an error with the payment page for GUI studios. I tried to pay using Maestro to begin with but the page asked for a start date and my Maestro card at least does not have one of those. When I tried clicking on pay it said that the security number had not been correctly entered. This is despite the fact that the Maestro page did not have an option for security number. So I presume the software incorrectly interpreted the erroneous start date as being an erroneous security number.

Anyway, I switched to using a Mastercard and the payment then went through a-ok.

Thanks Philip - in fact I also noticed this exact same thing a few days ago when trying to use Maestro to buy something through paypal on a different website - except my maestro card has no issue number. I have written an email to Paypal to tell them about the issue (no response yet though). I did discover that if you switch to visa, the security field appears, and you can then enter your maestro security number, then switch back to maestro and continue (and leave the missing issue number blank) - and that actually works.

Anyway - thanks for buying GUI Studio, I hope you get on ok with it - let me know if you have any problems.

Ric,

The new enhancements are great. The videos are really showing how easy GUI Studio is to use and how easy it is to produce some fine looking interfaces in a fraction of the time it would normally take.

Kalimee: Go to Ric forums, there's answers about your trouble. You need to email him to reset your account and re enter your serial again. (If you get such an error next time, reboot your computer WITHOUT uninstalling Gui studio. )

Update v1.04 is now available for all GUI Studio users who are using v1.03 or earlier versions.

It includes several upgrades, in particular the ability to use groups - you can now create upto 20 different GUI's and export them as one layout to DBPro. The new commands allow you to hide, show, and move the groups around, which is ideal for multiple menu pages, or multiple HUD elements which can slide on and off the screen.

Information about upgrading to the latest version can be found on the Andromedus forum at http://www.andromedus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=347#347. Thank you to all who helped to test the beta versions of this release.

@ Ric,

What do you get for the bucks - ?
plugin, ini and help file?
and a seperate exe. to design your GUI
could you post a command list for commands with the plugin within DBPro - that would give us a better idea - looks really good this...

a long time dabbler with DBC and DBPro with no actual talent but lots of enthusiasm...

Hi Duffer:

Yes, you get a complete drag and drop editor for creating your GUI's, including a built in help centre and a decent library of royalty free media to use within the editor, which is fully expandable with your own media.

Once exported into DBPro, you have access to a set of GUI functions for interacting with your interface (the necessary files, including the keyword highlighting (.ini) and f1-activated help files are all installed automatically for you).

You can see the index of GUI functions, with their descriptions and usages here: http://www.andromedus.com/guistudiohelp/index.html

You can see more information about GUI Studio on the Andromedus website (link below) - including some videos showing it in use.
