V1.2 Released

-Code optimization
-Added a new texture for one of the enemy lasers since it just used the same as one of the others.

Here's the download link:

Comments, critics and suggestions would be nice. I could use it before the game is gonna get the pretty big make-over hehe.

-----------------------------------------------

Hi all!

Viberwars is a little top-down 3D shooter I've been working on, which is now done.

In the game, you control a UFO around, and then simply enough, you have to shoot down other UFO's. While some of the graphics might look like 2D, it's all happening in 3D. It has somekind of an Arcade feeling to it.

Screenshots:

Gameplay footage:

All of the 3D objects are created by me, except the skysphere, which is from DarkMatter.

Also, all of the lovely textures and sprites are used from LimeFlyMedia.

I would also like to give thanks to Scraggle for his wonderful font pack, from which I used the font in the game.

The game features 4 types of different enemy UFO's, in a total of 15 levels. While 15 levels might not sound as much, I'm sure it's enough to keep you going for some time! And also, new levels can be scriptet easily anyway. So updates with new levels could be done, and the downloads for them would be very small in size, due to it being in LUA scripts.

Through the whole game you don't have more than 1 life. So it's about keeping as much energy as possible for the harder levels Hehe. The game also have a simple highscore table.

The Controls

The controls are easy! You fly the UFO using the WASD keys. You aim with the mouse, and shoot using the LMB.

The Download
Here's the download for Viberwars V1.2B Release:
http://www.nerd.galekus.com/Viberwars_V_1.2B_Release.rar

Please note that you'll need a compression program that supports rar to open it.

The standard resolution for the game is 1024x768x32. But it will support others. To change the resolution simply open the LUA file in the main folder(the Settings file) and change the resolution from there.

I hope you will enjoy the game! And comments and critics are more than welcome

Cheers!

Hi man!

Great game;

Suggestions

- Loading bar? I couldn't tell when it was loading and thought it had froze!
- Make the firing cursor more obvious please!

Yeah. I think I'm gonna add a loading bar when you enter the game from the game menu.

Sure, I'll see what I can do about it

Thanks for the suggestions, and the comment!

Works well. Nice and fast.
You can just hide off the side of the screen though. I completed it by moving just off the top left corner, staying still and just shooting.

You'll be able to click on this someday.

Yeah, I've noticed that. I'm gonna change that so it won't be possible.

Thansk for the comment.

I like the way it's done, although the loading sure takes its time. A fun game besides, worth playing.

Thanks for the comment Ben About the loading, I can't really say why that would be. It loads fast enough here. I tried changing the models to DBO format, although it didn't make any noticeable change in loading-times here. That may be because it's such a small amount of models it has to load + that they are quite small hehe.

Nice,

It's great to see a coder mature, i remeber the nerd when he just started out coding, and i have to say he's come a long way, this little game is good. it has all the right stuff in the right places, it just needs tightening up to make it one of the finest blasters to grace this forum.

I'd like to take the oppertunity to offer my services to give your game a makeover, adding a little more effects, reworked graphics / lighting and other little tweaks to give it the polish it clearly deserves, i will take no credit for anything i do for your game. you have already written a gem, i'd just like to see it shine like it deserves to.

Regards, Grant.

Hello Geecee!

Thank you for the really nice comment

It would be great if you could polish it up with some more effects and graphics. Not only would it make the game look better, but I also think that I could benefit from it, in the way that I may be able to gain more knowlegde in that area.

But I would include you in the credits for the help anyway! hehe

We can talk about it over MSN, I think that would clearly be the easiest way.

Cheers.

Hi guys, here's the last update for the game before the makeover
Most of the update is really just some optimaziation in the code, but I've also added some new textures for one of the enemy lasers, since it actually just used the same texture as one of the other enemies.

Here's the download link:
http://www.nerd.galekus.com/Viberwars_V_1.2_Release.rar

Comments, critics and suggestions would be very nice Could use it since the game is getting a pretty big update.

Cheers.
