Ultimatum:The Final Deadline

Dark Peanut's Ultimate Competition Entry

Powered with S4mod V2

Story: A huge and international terrorist network has kidnapped the Queen of England. A hostage switch is negotiated, a terrorist officer and one hundred million pounds are set to be exchanged for the Queen. The swap was to take place on the London Bridge. Everything proceeded smoothly and it looked like Britain would get its Queen back. When the two hostages met in the middle of the bridge the terrorist knelt, took the Queen’s hand, kissed it, and hit the button installed by the terrorists in the Queen’s wristwatch. The trigger detonated charges strapped onto the Queen’s chest and the bridge. Both were obliterated in an instant. Now in aiding her ally Britain, America has agreed to send one of her top agents after the terrorists. This isn’t exactly true as the government has deemed it necessary to keep their best agents in the field in Afghanistan. Unbeknownst to Britain they will be helped by only a mediocre agent. You are that agent.

Status:Level 1 is finished except for extra details (music, voice overs, health and ammo HUDs, etc.)
Level 2 is mapped out on paper and level creation has begun
Levels 3-6 planning stages

Beta First Level:http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?u4w22nyyoiv

Known issues: When you shoot the ally NPC at the beggining he dies but doesn't respawn on the next life.(it would be nice if someone could help me on this)
To use the lift you have to get on, get off, and get back on(only the first time)
Let me know if you find anymore.

The first level is a training level somewhat like the mock cargoship run at the beggining of CoD4. You must move through the apartment shooting down targets and avoiding hitting the hostages. The soldier at the beggining will have a voice over but I haven't gotten to that yet. Basically he tells you how to play and at the end he will tell you the PIN to the door is 5732
W,A,S,D movement
M for map
O for objectives
NUMPAD for entering PIN number

Let me know what you guys think! Constructive criticism is welcomed and asked for.

EDIT: On my laptop I had a framerate of 38 that never once dropped. Extremely smooth gameplay but then again the level is pretty small and short. Big thanks to S4 for his awesome mod! (no I do not have the money to get PBM so don't mention it)

The first level has been re-uploaded and is now packaged with Vishnu, also by S4. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

awesome dark peanut! it looks great, but if i have to put c&c (screenshots only) i think the levels could do with a bit more static entity population, but it's just a thought.

Thank you very much for your comments shadowfire, and the first level is a training level. Like I said I got the idea from CoD4's mock cargoship run you go through in the prologue. When anti terrorist units (i.e FBI) do mock raids, from what I've seen in pictures the rooms are pretty bare. I tried to stick to very little decor on purpose here. Hope you get the idea of what I was trying to do. Once imagebam is back up I'll be posting some very WIP screenshots for level 2.

ah... i see where you are going, i have a game called SAS anti terror force for the ps2 (don't get it it's rubbish i got it in a jumble sale for £2) and that has a training level in it that is just as you described. try to make it so there is no specific route through the building.

anyway, best of luck to you in the competition dark peanut, if you're really lucky you might be able to get second! (to me) ha ha ha ha!

Imagebam is finally back up so I got some very WIP level 2 screenshots. This is the only room I have so far, it's an attic by the way ergo the darkness.

I might be talking to myself, but I am currently beefing up the attic with some air ducts and pipes. All jokes aside one of the best ways my work will get better is if you guys give me some feedback. Trying to not sound n00b or naggy(if I am just tell me to shut it) but critcism please!

Hehe I was on a laptop when I tested the build game and I found a bug that I have to fix. I put a checkpoint outside the door, so if you shoot your ally then you'll be taken to the checkpoint when you respawn, so just shoot the guy at the biggining if you don't have a numpad. In theory if I put a checkpoint inside the first room also then that won't happen. Thanks for downloading and playing!

As I said I was populating the attic out a bit and this is what I've ended up with. Let me know what you think of it.

Notes: Ignore the ceiling as it's not yet finished. In the game you'll die if you got to where I was in the second shot, I accidentally fell while testing the level.

looks great, with the hole... why don't you try adding alight at the bottom of the hole? that would look cool, make sure the light is small though.

Well in the game if you fall down the hole you die(lots of boards with nails sticking out all over the place in attics). I want to keep the hole black so that it seems more omnious and dangerous.

This looks good dark peanut.
Some suggestions could be maybe adding add illuminationmap to the lights so of them already have others dont. I like the weapon placement in the first couple of screen, thought maybe adding a shader to that guy would be cool. As it reacts better with the light you are having. I really like the screen when you are falling down. Maybe adding a bronish colored light with a range of 80 at the bottom would be coool. In the second screen you have made a hud (Press of F to Pickup: ) but I always pay attention if it blends right with the scene. I think it is a very nice hud. Thought the green isnt a very good color, when talkling about blending with scene. Again while looking back, I really like the hole where you fall in, no much people get that right, apperantly you do. Good work buddy. Keep it up.

Looking forward to more screenies.

Thanks alot Red Eye! Since two people now have suggested adding a light at the bottom of the attic I'll go ahead and try it out. Yeah for the HUDs I was trying to get just a green glow around the letters like Kravenwolf does with his HUDs but they turned out to be blocks of green(if anyone has any tips on how to do that then please let me know, I'm using photoshop elements and the HUDs are in .png format right now). Thanks again for the comments!

*double post*
Ok I think I'm going to keep shaders off because when I turn them on:
1. the static weapons turn entirely black
2. the lights with illuminationmap applied to them entirely disappear
3. the frame for the stock circular windows becomes entirely white

About the huds, contact me if you want, maybe i could help. About the shaders, if you are using model pack 3 it is normal that they disapear. But it can be cuz you didnt made the n s d maps for the normal d2 maps. For the guns and windows that might be the same problem too.

Hey everybody its been awhile because I've been hard at work on the second level. I have returned with screenshots of the second level which takes place in the terrorist's safe house in Atlanta, Georgia. BUT before we get to that I will dedicate this post to screenshots of Red Eye's much appreciated contribution to the game. Remember those rectangular blocks of neon green behind the text in the HUDs up in the 2nd post? Thanks to Red Eye the block is gone and instead there is a glow emanating from the letters which is much easier on the eyes. Thank you very much Red Eye and without further ado enjoy some screenshots!

Now for the screenshots of the second level. Please leave your constructive criticisms/comments!

Notes: The ceiling has been changed from what you see in the photos to a orangeish brown stucco.
EAI's led light will not actually be in the game, I put it in the starting weapon slot and have yet to take it out

In your final screenshot above the repeated tile is off at the bottom I dont see this in the floor area in screenshot 9, looks like you either need to rotate the segment or crop the texture so its more seamless, the tiles just shouldn't repeat like that.
Anyhoo nice job on this

Hehe, thanks for the comments lazerus. If you're talking about the attic shots the lighting is much better now.

Well guys you might have noticed I haven't really posted anything in a long time. I'm just going to say level 2 and 3 are completed and I'm very pleased with how 3 came out. I am busy at work finishing the finer details of the game. Because of this I probably will not have time to post further screenshots until work is completed. Then you will be able to find it in the Contest Entries thread and I will more than likely make a Showcase thread.

Are you talking about the beta? Or the attic screenshots? Because yeah, in the attic you die if you fall off of the planks and I wanted the player to not be able to see the bottom of the pit. Makes it more ominous and dangerous looking IMO.

rakker I don't understand German(if thats not German correct me) but it looks like something not related to FPSC if its a WinRad error. Looks like its something your computer doesn't like about it.
