SplatterSpawn.com is hosting a mini-game creation contest for FPSC X9 and X10.
In light of our new site, we decided to super-impose a challenge
among the community here. The prizes are legit and we are hoping
that we gather many participants. If we do not get a fair share of
game entry's, we do hold the right to call off the contest.
I'm sure if you look at what is for the taking here,
you cannot refuse joining.


ABOUT THE CONTEST:

The challenge is to create a story telling game, which where the
point is to deliver a game that betrays a unique and compelling
story that delivers the best game experience.

RULES:

1. Any Genre Welcome

2. Can Include Weapons or No Weapons

3. Can Be Up to 20 Levels

4. Story MUST Be Legit. No "You are in an apocalypse. Kill zombies to survive!"

5. NO PORNOGRAPHY OR EXCESSIVE USE OF CURSE WORDS

6. Work Must Be Fresh From the Contest Start

We cannot stop you from making a game with media you've already
made, but we want this to be fair to all who are just starting on
their game. i.e, this means you can't submit a game you
have already showcased either.

7. Keep Your Story Secret

8. No Using Banned Engine Mods

9. You MAY NOT use the submitted game in another contest
or can it NOT have been in a previous contest.



HOW IT WILL BE JUDGED:

1. Presentation

Does the game's mood match the story's OR, can we sense that you
are going for a unique game feel and intentionally leave the game
very unsettling and perverse to help provoke the story?

2. Story Quality

Was the story well thought out? Is this just a regular zombie
apocalypse shoot 'em up? Does the story make you compelled to play
more of the game even when you reach the end? Lasting impressions
will get you a long ways here.

3. Replay Ability

Is this a timeless classic like Beyond Life, or is it a game you
play once and forget? The more people like your ability to make
them fall in love with the game to play it over and over,
the better chance you have at winning here.

4. Environment

You are not penalized for using stock or other creator's content
but we will take into account how good your environment fits the
given setting for the level/game. Is it smooth, fluid, and very
believable? This will comment the story in so many ways that it is
not even funny.

1st Place: $100 via Paypal + 2 FPSC IP Game Build Codes
As well as, Massive Overlay Pack 1 (Donation by Anayar)
+ The Stranger (Donation by SamHH) + Le Shorte's Camo Pack

Plus Your Choice of the following:

Thanks for pointing this out. I updated the rules to cover that
subject. As far as you using that game, we won't allow an EXACT
copy.

We would however take a similar game, even made with the same
media found in the game your were working on.

Does that sound fair? I'm sure you see my reasoning.

That's not too clear to me? Could I use my HMS Diptera game but with a few more added levels?

No, but you could submit something close to it.
You can't submit what you've already made however.

Just for final clarification, the rule is you can use any media in your library, but you must create your levels from scratch, otherwise you have an unfair advantage.

Yes, that would be correct. Your entries must be created from 8/23/2010(today) and past. Meaning you cannot use a game that you have already been working on.

Wow, that looks great! It reminds me of this one scene from FEAR one when you are walking through this area of the building that is unfinished.

UPDATE:

After talking with the gang, we feel that sharing pictures here
won't overall hurt anything. You just cannot post your story.
We are mainly judging how you can pull of a nice story based game
after-all.

Another small update (I still haven't gotten the game to look natural yet, I might remove the shader on the floor to make it look better):

Hey ASTEK! i want to participe but my game is in spanish (because is my language), can i be part of the competition with the game in spanish? because if not, i'll have to make a lot of 2d and text scripts again!

Well, I'm afraid we are not allowing games that were made before the starting of this competition. So if you had already made it then I'm sorry you cannot enter that.

If not then idk really lol. I guess you could try and translate it, because idk about Astek but I don't speak Spanish. Well I do a little bit, but not really good.

The game is not made yet, i have just some maps and 2d art and the history, nothing more

I know a little bit of Spanish but I'm no guru when it comes down
to it. You could make a second install of FPSC in English and then
try from there. I mean, it would kind of hurt the flow if I ran into
something I couldn't quite understand.

I hope you see my point.

Updated the list.

Thanks for entering guys!
Here are some things to really sale your game to us though.
If you can pull off a cinematic feel and maybe grab Bond's
full screen shaders, that will add a lot of tone to your
story (if the shader can be made to fit it).

While graphics aren't the biggest issue, we do like the idea
of adding brownie points for such an engaging scene to go along
with the story.

Yeah no problem. As long as the judges (Me and Astek) can understand everything. You may want to send it to someone for beta testing or something just to make sure its clear.

Not sure, but creator of that mod got banned becouse of pirating fpsc or model packs. He maybe pirated DBpro so it's nearly "illegal to use his mod" I suggest using instead of that EFX mod.

Yes,he got banned along with the mod.I could care less what it's called now,but I suggest there is a rule to this competition : No use of banned mods!

Plus - that mod is extremely slow!If you can't get a decent fps (8) on a quad core and a 512 mb video card,how do you expect your game to be playable on a low-end machine...
