This thread will follow my progress on my entry for the current community competition... I'm going to be posting progress throughout the month on the game.

Santa Rush

Concept:
My entry is titled Santa Rush, and follows Santa (you) in his headquarters on Christmas Eve. You are packing up, ready for the long ride. Suddenly, your Helpers accidentally make a huge mistake while loading the sled, and all the presents get scattered around your toy factory! You must collect all the gift boxes in time, before it's too late. Use your amazing platforming skills and magical abilities to find and collect all the presents and save Christmas...
As well as the central game mode, there will be four mini-games you can play after completing the main game, including Santa Breakout and Catch the Presents.

Progress:

November 8th - Day 1
I have gotten most of the core game design finished, and will be uploading that tomorrow for Day 2. I have started on the menu, and I'm trying to make it as polished as possible.

November 9th - Day 2
I've finished the central menu! All four buttons and the wreath are interactive, and work perfectly! I'm also fleshing out the design more before uploading, there will be ten levels in the campaign, each with their own unique style. I've also created a nice little intro poem...and snow... but that is something I'm saving for when you can download it.

November 10th - Day 3:
Finished with Day Three of the game, I've completely rearranged the code to be actually readable...also, I didn't get as far as I'd have liked on the menu, but since I did a lot of work behind the scenes, I'm fine with that.

November 11th - Day 4:
Day Four is up! I've coded quite a bit today, including a level loading and save system, and the 2.5D movement and collision physics system using Sparky's Collision DLL. I also worked on an editor, but I don't quite know whether I'll be including it with the final game as that part of the code is quite messy. I also finished rearranging the code, so when it comes time for the judging, my code will be nice and shiny!

November 12th - Day 5:
Well, it's the end of Day Five, and I'm pretty happy with the progress. Most of the work today went into the editor, which is going along quite fine and can produce pretty cool levels... Also, I added six new block types, and totally redid the collision system. Now, based on the type of block, you don't collide with gifts or decorations. Lastly, the player can now pick up gifts!

November 13/14/15th - Day 6,7,8:
I took a break from this project to visit my dad, I'll post more progress next week.

November 18th - Day 11:
Added a lot of code, I am working on a time limit system, and also start and end level markers. I also added snow into the game engine, and a nice background. Still have a placeholder for the santa character, but I'll get that fixed.

November 24th - Day 17:
Yes, there are levels in the rain. This picture doesn't do it justice...

November 25th - Day 18:
I've made a ton of progress today, I actually combined my game engine code with the menu, and redid a lot of that code to make it neater. There are also enemies, and once the player collects all the presents they can progress to the next level. I've finished most of the levels, all that's left is the final one and a boss battle.
Also, another screenshot of the rain effect, I'm playing around with it and I'm quite proud of the effect.

Looking really good.
I cant wait to see it finished.
Is the untextured plane in the pictures the player?
Will any of the blocks be destructable? eg: jump on the wooden boxes to break them.

Yes, that was a placeholder for the player. I've got a character now, though.

I'm not quite sure yet, I do know that the player will be able to push boxes. And also, they will be able to throw presents at enemies, so I might do something with that.

Ah, here's that WIP you were talking about. The graphics look pristine! Can't wait to try it out. Great job.

EDIT: Oh wait, maybe it was Satchmo who was telling me about his WIP. Either way, good job.
