hey guys, its been about 4 months i was doing testing with tgc forum on this app, and i finally decided to release it!
there is a WIP thread that shows how i progressed it from zero to this stage.

About the program:
Ever played an online game? GuildWars/World of Warcraft or any other smaller MMO game
every game got his own Updater system, wich basicly updates the files to the latest version from the server.
well, my AdvUpdater does the same! so instead of making own updater, with own file server, just use this one. its Free for all.

How it works?
ever used DropBox, Google Drive, or any other cloud system?
all of them are creating a simple folder where you can store files and they all will be synced with the server.
same goes for AdvUpdater, but instead of syncing it with server all what AdvUpdater does, it just watching for new files or updated files, and simply upload it all into private storage. it also generates an a Launcher executable file that you send to people you want. all what they do, they just open the launcher, and bing! all the files are synced.
AdvUpdater has also an ability to compress files that it puts on online storage. wich gives you an additional download/upload speed for every file. few more features for AdvUpdater is an ability to update up to x10 files in same time! wich means you can download in speed of x10!

Features
- download up to x10 files in same time! will give you crazy download speed.
- able to put banner of your own (of your game) with ability to click on the banner to enter your website
- watching folder for new files or updated files
- 32/64 bit versions for your own suites
- files that are uploaded to server, all are compressed and encrypted! no way for someone to hack your files.
- no need to replace launcher when new update is released! its enough for users to run your launcher once again to receive it all.
- ability to run Online and Offline mode.
- you are able to decide if you want your game WONT run without the Launcher.

nope.
my app uses Local storage to create updates. it takes whole folder and upload it all to private http server.
that was the point of my AdvUpdater at the 1st place;
everyone can make their own updates without creating own online storage for that.

you understand that, for some of us, not being able to use our own server isn't a good thing, right?

i'd prefer the updater gui to be cusomizable so we can "match" it to our app/game themes/schemes as much as possible.

Sergey K, your sig is broken (prolly them mods since they haven't found a sig to erase in a while ).
Don't worry, you can change it by simply fixing it in your profile and then editing all the posts you've made since your sig got broken. Your sig is updated when you edit a post.

On to more important stuff, as I mentioned before to you, it looks good. Personally I think you have an excellent eye for design with your GUI. Dark themes often end up looking bad, but yours really is professional and neat.

i do getting this kind of question very often, and i do asked to make an option for this application to use OWN servers to host files..
well i will implement it in a future..

i dont have any idea how exactly its gonna work.. like coloring buttons in own colors? or creating bitmap buttons with own graphic UI?

at least 1 good word about my app! all other people are too nuts with their own crazy ideas to keep upgrading the GUI..

this project is complete. however there is some stuff i want to add on next version;
such as Terms of Use! wich i completly forgot!

if you got any idea what should i change/add to make a better "touch, look & feel" to AdvUpdater, just tell..

i see that we're able to include a banner and was thinking more of a custom background image and ability to alter gui elements/text color, as well.

if i used this, i'd prefer that the related app would require your updater for launch and would like it to appear all part of the same package vs a standalone launcher for an app that would most-likely appear completely different, visually. i hope that makes sense

meanwhile, i downloaded the simpletest demo for now and it does look professional, and functioned without issue. well, if you exclude the scare i had when the title bar for the downloaded testproject.exe file came into view, that is:

Sergy, I have used the updater happily for several projects of mine its just that after a while I keep getting the bad account error on all the accounts.

The one which I am using now is called: 'Ebony Core'

Each time there is no way for me to repeal or something and I cannot update the game with new builds any longer. The updaters can run and will download the previous version but I cannot access my account.

This is kinda a big problem and it is a reoccurring nightmare for me because I do not want to have lots of accounts for the same game and I'm sure you don't want that either.

i did some debugging on your account, and i found that you have been using a wrong password to login.

so "bad account (2)" means wrong password (will be changed on next AdvUpdater version)

unforchinately i dont have password recovery feature yet.
but if u want, u can send me the password that you "though" you been using, and ill replace the old one with yours current..

For the sake of simplicity could you simply remove the account so I can create it again? I have all the source files backed up and replacing the updater is no problem at all.

I have tried all the passwords that it could of been and none of them worked... I have also been using the account frequently over the past few days and have always used the same password so I know I have been consistent, perhaps something messed up with the updating of my password on the database?

If you still want me to give the old one then ill oblige but I would rather not send that out if you know what I mean...

Ok recreated the account, thanks

Out of interest, how would you do the delete account button if I cannot access it through the bad account error? Putting it on the main page without logging in can cause problems as well because I can foresee some troll typing in random names and then deleting them...

Perhaps tie it in with the account password recovery with an email so you need to click a link on a email to confirm the deletion of accounts?

Love the updater and hope my problem wasn't too intrusive.

no its not exactly what i meant..
i was thinking of deleting account within your own account page..
but then i thought; ppl just want to rename their project instead of recreating them.. so the button will be "rename project"

and no, you still will have to remember your own password for that

but maybe ill make some kind of mailing system, so the password will be emailed to you..

I am still adamant that I was using the same password that was stored, If it happens again then I know that it is a bug in the updater but until then there is still the chance that it was me...

I agree with the rename button, very useful, but I do think that a delete account button would still be nice considering how I have a few projects that I have put up there that I know I will never use again and it would be just a waste of space to keep them.

I also like the mailing system, I don't know anything about how you would make it work but I'm sure many user would find it useful.

I am having a few errors with the updater apart from the bad account error:

1. After a few times of logging in I get an error with a really long access violation error (I know its not very specific but I should be able to grab a screenshot soon as it happens kinda frequently). I can solve it by deleting the Profile.aus file and logging in again...

2. Every time I log in the updater 'forgets' where my dropbox path is. I am not sure if this is a bug or if it is just something that I need to specify every time I load it up.

Sorry about all these problems, just while we are on the topic of the updater I though I should bring them up...

@all: in next a day or two, there will be a new update for AdvUpdater.
you all may receive popups of "New Version is Out" but just press CANCEL to skip the version update for now.

i fixed the bugs LittleGg6 submited, also added some new features such as Terms of Use and stabalaized the uploading, so it wont crash now.

also i made the application little bit lighter from the memory usage view..

new version will be in few days..

Um... hate to be a bother but it has stopped working for me :/

It started a few days ago (I would guess 4 or 5):
For some reason the updaters will not download the latest version for my game, staying on a 'Getting data for [Game Name]'.

I thought that it perhaps bugged out so I re-downloaded the Main Updater and I also deleted all files in the drop box and replaced them with my latest build and ran the new Main Updater. It connected fine and seemingly uploaded the changes without a hitch.

When trying to get the data for the game again it froze in the same place...

I then tried to create a new Updater.exe but the button is grayed out in the Main Updater and clicking does nothing.

This error also seems to have happened with my friends game as when I try to connect to a previously working build of his it freezes in the same place.

Could you take a look at it? I have attached to this post a copy of my Updater.exe - Remember to put it in its own folder before running

The setup was working so I do not think that I messed up and all my other Updater.exe's for previous games are no longer working and crashing with the same error...

to tell you the truth, untill now i used a "trial" version of the server to host the files, so i would be 100% sure thats what im getting is good enough for the AdvUpdater.
and now when i officialy bought it (a week ago) the link is slightly changed to the updater files. thats why you had those problems at the first place.

it should work now.

you can download the AdvUpdater again 2nd release on top, or:
64 bit
32 bit

Ok, now the Updater.exe's will not compile properly...

Once downloading the new Main Updater the 'Create Updater 32 Bit' and 64 bit are buttons again and they work fine except that the .exe that is produced by both gives me this error when I try to run them:

'[Filepath]\Updater.exe is not a valid Win32 application'

I have attached the Updater.exe in the post again.

(I have tried the 64 bit and the 32 bit and both produce the same error)

i had this idea for adding new option for my AdvUpdater;
make it work like an installer.

if the launcher starts 1st time on a computer, it will ask you where you want to install the project, you select a path, and there you have it. it will create shortcut on your desktop and start the update out of the folder where you selected.

so basicly, it will act like normal app installer, but instead of having all the files archived inside the exe, it will download them all using the AdvUpdater server services.

what do you think everyone?

I think that adding an install option would be a great idea as long as you can turn it off with a check box or something.

Have you thought about how where you would store the game on the customers computer?

Eg: When first booted it will try at first to put it in 'C:\Program Files\[GAMENAME]' or 'C:\Program Files\[USERNAME]\[GAMENAME]'


I like the idea though and it would give more professional look to the game if it installs properly (Might just be me )

i was thinking of adding new parameters to AdvUpdater
one of them will be "Full Game Name" (where you put your full game name field) the launcher will use it to store the game on common program files folder, the 32 will use the "Program Files (86)" folder as default path (c:\Program files\Full Game Name\). you always can chose where you want to store it.
and 1 more option i guess ill add to AdvUpdater, is a checkbox for "Installer" wich actually allows u to process the install instead of just updating.

of course the Launcher will know if he been installed already or not.so he wont ask again to install.

but lets say for some reason you want to install it again?
simply all what the user needs to do is just download the launcher again and it will have the install wizard popup again.

thats basicly the theory i was thinking untill now.
if you have any suggestions of making something different than this, just shot..

Or perhaps have another .exe in the installation folder that when run will re-install the game again?

I may just be being finicky but that sounds better than having to manually re-download the installer (And also a little less confusing from the customers point of view).


Also, you said that if a 32 bit installer is created it will default to 'Program Files (86)'. I can forsee some problems when people download the 32 bit updater on a 32 bit system and when they run it it will try to find 'Program Files (86)' but would not be able to find it as 'Program Files' is their normal path. Perhaps check to see if 'C:\Program Files (86)' exists before defaulting the path?

Other than that, have you added that rename feature? Do you plan on having it for both fields because it could be applied to the 'Full Game Name' and also the account sign in name separately.

well there is an issue to do this..
i want that the Launcher will download and launch the game without any key presses or something like that.
if i do uninstaller option on it, i will have to make a button wich actually ruins the first rule of my launcher (run game without any buttons to click - quick run)

do you have any suggestions of how to make that uninstaller option on the launcher without having that wait delay?
maybe a command line? something like "myLauncher.exe -reinstall" or -uninstall

ill make a check if "c:\program files(86)" exist. if not, it will install on normal folder C:\Program Files\ its not big deal..

well actually i thought about that,
your login is supposed to some kind of private. but on my AdvUpdater it uses it as game name, and you can see it on the launcher too.
thats why i thought why not to have another field of "full game name" wich you can rename - instaed of renaming the Account Name..

With the account names, will it be possible to have multiple games on one account? It would allow people to have one login that is private and then have all of their games in a drop down menu or selector panel. They could then pick wich game they want to update from there.

I suggest this idea because having a separate unique login for each game that isn't the game name might mean that people start forgetting usernames and then cannot access their files.

thats what i thought.
you can make an executable that runs the launcher with different command lines.
lets say you create an "Uninstall.exe" file at the main folder.
when user press on it, it will ask if you want to "uninstall" or "reinstall"
then you just execute the launcehr with the certain command line and closing your Uninstall.exe right away (so the launcher can uninstall it safely)

nope, one game on one account. unless you storing few games on same folder.

its Delphi/Pascal

i dont think there are many ppl left on tgc who knows whats delphi or pascal..
but i still wonder if someone is still remain

Sergey K, I just wanted to congratulate you on this successful product!

When I released PonyCraft, you said over 1000 downloads and 600 executions of the game had been made within the first 24 hours. I don't know what the statistics are now, but that's a huge amount of traffic, and your app could handle it perfectly!

AdvUpdate is a very stable and reliable piece of software, and I recommend everyone who is making games for a large public domain needs to use it. It definitely has my seal of approval.

I'm sorry for being absent on Skype lately, I'll be on it more often now that all of the parties and final exams are finished.

thanks! i appreciate all the test you did and reports on this product, it helped a lot!

anyways, im currently working on the next release, wich also gonna be added to CNET news, and hopefully will start a kickstarter on this one too.

im also working on an automatic account managment program.
so when you purchacing a package, the account manager will receive the payment from paypal and upgrade your account automaticly. so no need to wait 24-48 hours till you will get your upgrade by me.

so far, those are the fixes you fonna get on the next release (1.0)
