I've been working hard recently on 'i world', my interactive world builder. It allows you to make GTA styled 3D worlds, then enter them as a thug with a set of weapons (pistol, machine gun, shotgun and rocket launcher) and allows you to run around stealing cars, blowing stuff up, pulling off huge jumps in your car etc..
And it is now finished and available for download for free. Check it out here:

!!!NEW LINK!!!
http://dbpupload.blackgate.us/dbp/upload/hmm/iworld.zip

There's info and screenshots. The program comes with a guide to mod it.

Since the last release there have been loads of major changes. The biggest include;
- revamped graphics, all new objects to build up your world (including ramps!)
- a 'delta time' system that ensures the program remains running at a constant speed despite any lagging frame rates.
- an all new control system utilising the mouse for more freedom to look around and aim.
- running your world now switches the program to full screen for a better experience.

Hope you all enjoy (after the 10mb download!). Please post any feedback and any maps you create. I'd very much like to see something created in it (beside my own maps).

@ the Nerd: the part updater is for any new models that I release (or you make). Once you save them to the 'media/models/parts' folder and make sure their filename ends with 'part', you just run the part updater and it allows you to use those models in the editor. Read the modding info word document for more detailed info.

Magnificent,
but when running the map: can you set sync rate to 50 or something, now it varies (in my comp) continuously between 40..300. And its not funny when camera goes under the ground

Great game ! Graph and physics are really good (I like the rocket effects) and it's really easy to create our own maps. The IA is amazing : cars and mens move in the streets, cops catch you...

There is only 2 problems
1- Sometimes a little bit slow
2- The camera when we are driving : I think it can be better if you invert the y rotation or if you rotate camera like the car.

[edit]little problem on your site : download link is behin the pictures : I have to open the source code to find the link (I'm in 1024*768)

Yeah, Math89 beat me to it on some of the comments:

GOOD THINGS
Build you own city!
Weapons!
Excellent car physics!
Nice editor, nice water FX
Cool weather cycle
Police chase you
Great graphics - car models very good
Rain is nice
Insert lots more good things here

BAD THINGS
Bullets look crap
Sound?
Camera on car was really annoying, make it follow car
Pretty slow - guess that can't be helped

The San Fransisco map was the best - I've been playing this for while, downloaded it yesterday on LLRGT but haven't replied until now. Good work

Only four suggestions:
1) make it so that the mousewheel controls camera distance - that way I can actually see where I'm driving.
2) Add a 'center camera' button (maybe 'c') that rotates the camera back to behind the car
3) Option to control camera senetivity - the way it is now, I can't hit anything
4) Change those ugly tracers!

Other than that--this is the most obnoxiously splendid dbp game ever!

@ Hmmmm - what did you do to your shadow plain to make the black least transparent, and white most transparent? (So the shadow is a gradient, rather than a black circle) ?

I used dark ghosting with a dark grey shadow blending to white. You could also use alpha mapped images which would prbably work better.

Forgive my ignorance - could you post the code you used on the shadow plain, exactly - I'm not too good with ghosting etc...

I had a look at your shadow image, I'm just wondering how you set it in game to get the effect you had.

Much appreciated,

'i world' runs far too slow for what it is, I'm afraid. It's a brilliant idea and all, but its far too slow.

What I reccomend you do:

1. Only move pedestrians and cars within a certain radius of the player, or are visible.
2. Switch to non-dbpro code for the physics of the car and movement (try Newton - itll take care of collision too)
3. Lower the amount of particles and make them bigger
4. Make better sounds

Im only saying this because tis rather slow on my good PC. Also, the rocket launcher doesnt work. But this is a brilliant idea, keep it up!

hmm, can you post me how to do the driving when you test. Not the shoot or anything other, only the driving with the effect when you turn.

Please, thanks in advance

Good work!
The AI is great, I've seen police cars stop when I am a good guy and try to walk the street and chase me when I'm doing bad things. With little adjustments (slowness, some camera problems and more animations) this will be an amazing game!

the car physics are really the sum of several years doing various 'criminal' and 'randomcity' projects. then whilst doing this project I rewrote the enegine a few times trying different approaches and messed around wit values to get each car about right...so it took me quite a while.

Of course, now you can do much better with a lot less work due to the Newton wrapper!

why not just use Newton? it is far better! I would have used it in 'i world' had I not been so far along before the relase of the vehicle physics.

yea, maybe.. I don't use newton because i dont really understand it. I tried it a while ago, one of the first versions i think. After that i never used it again. Is it hard to program a car with newton?

okay uuhm sorry for the off topic but.. I can't run the vehicle demo when i compile it myself. First i don't have ezrotate so i deleted the commands which used ezr in the code (only for camera). And now when i run it closes when the car is loading. Do you know what this can be?

Sorry, now u cant load the worlds in DBP, I havent given out the source, and there may be a few issues to do with using certain files and storing them in the right folders...

And I better check line 1345, i think a few people have had this problem.
