Excellent stuff...

That host died on me, so the link no longer exists...however you can find my tutorials (not in full, I'm rewriting them in a demo of C4D 9, Silo 2, Carrara and any other appropriate programs.) here:

http://www.seppuku-arts.co.nr/

I've used a cloak url, so if my new host dies on me, I can just redirect where the link goes.

@MikeS- Do any of those free modeling packages come with a free .3ds to .x exporter that's not limited to 650 polygons? I am using Gamespace light, but with it's low poly exporting ability it's hard to use the free version when u want to use a 1000 poly prop in .x for the game. Thanks for any help.
All the best,

Hehe, @Beast, I don't think that MikeS, himself, is necessarily gonna be able to answer that question. The list of resources is community compiled, he was just kind enough to give it a sticky and keep it updates as folks throw in more links. But I know I've seen your question come up before, even recently if I'm not mistaken, so if you do some digging you should be able to find it in these forums.

Wings3D has a .x exporter and can import .3ds I believe. If not, maybe try the 30 day trial of Deep Exploration's 3D model converter.

http://www.3dmodelbuilder.com

The easiest modeler i know that is free.
There are fourmodelers on the website and each increase with level of diffuculty. i use the highest diffuculty and can make some great models with it. All polys are to be triangles like they use in playstation's. Best for begginers!!!

Aaa, you export the UV Map to an image editing program of your choice, be it Paint, Gimp, Photoshop, and then re-import the textured UV map. For Wings, you make it external, edit the file, and then refresh the UV map in the outliner...

Personally I can recommend Anim8or for any beginner really, just a step higher there is trueSpace, Caligari has released v7.6 for free at http://www.caligari.com just click the trueSpace 7.6 link, you can get several videos with it. For advanced modeling/animating I've heard blender beats them all, I've personally not done a lot with it but there's a whole noob to pro tutorial at wikibooks.

Unfortunately not. However, if you export it as a .3ds, import it to Blender, and then export it from there, it should work.

I don't see Metasequoia.

http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.html

Was used a ton for Final Fantasy X, and it's shareware now. Used to be freeware actually.

EDIT: They have a freeware version that they now call Metasquoia LE.

I found a pretty good site for general animation concepts, it's helped me a bunch with technique. It's a bit dated, and more geared toward cinematic animation than games, but I thought it could help someone.

http://eat3d.com/ The best video tutorials on the net. Most of them are $50, but I can vouch that they are amazing. Very informative, plenty of tips and tricks, and step by step on how professionals in the industry do it.

In making a 3D Asteroids Game, and one of the Resource Sites i used was this

http://planetpixelemporium.com/planets.html

It has every texture, (Textures, Bump Maps, Ect), For every planet, and lots of moons, I found this site quite useful a few time for resources.
