You might have noticed that recently quite a few threads have been locked. It's not that we don't like any of you - we are just enforcing the board rules after a rather long spell of not doing so.

A lot of you are failing to see the point of this board. So, for the benefit of those who don't know:

The object is to show everyone your programming skills by compressing as much programming code as you can into 20 lines or less to produce the most impressive program that you can.

If your thread doesn't enter the 'spirit' of this, it will simply be locked. This includes:

* Uncompressed programs:

Where's the challenge in that? If you can't compress your programs then they belong on the Code Snippets board. Part of the challenge is compressing the lines without stopping the program from working.

* Programs Longer Than 20 Lines

These simply break the rules. It's not the 22 Line Challenge, or the 21 Line Challenge. More than 20 lines and it's simply not allowed on this board. Period!

* Pointless Programs

Anyone can write a 'Hello World' program in less than 20 lines and post it on here. No-one does because it's pointless and shows no programming expertise. Your program should make people say "Wow - that's clever! How did they do that"?

Now if you can write a complete game in 20 lines or less (as many posters have already done) then feel free to post - and amaze us all.

If you can't avoid the three points above then please don't complain when your thread is locked.

Mr TDK, I have a question. Will your thread be locked if you add an uncompressed version for easier reading? Because I'm sure someone said you should do that...

Happy, always happy!

No, as long as you show that it can be compressed I'm sure it's ok.

No - that's OK. As long as there's a working 20 line or less version posted along with it.

I'm only talking about snippets which are posted in uncompressed format only - especially if they are less than 20 lines uncompressed!

Likewise, a snippet much bigger than 20 lines may not run when compressed to 20 lines or less and if the poster doesn't do it and just assumes it will compress to 20 or less lines then we can't be expected to test it for them.

don't you mean more than 20 lines?
but yes I agree.

Do you have any idea why people don't make as many comments for the 20 lines challenge as for other like DBpro or work in progress that have thousands of posts!?!

Happy, always happy!

I'm pretty sure that's what he means.

What's the challenge in writing a program <20 uncompressed? Even
people that just learned DB can write such a program.
The real art is creating a neat, compact, and impressive program.

It's the programmer's life:
Have a problem, solve the problem, and have a new problem to solve.

No - I meant uncompressed. I was talking about locking threads where the snippets did not adhere to the rules. To me, snippets which are less than 20 lines long even when uncompressed are especially pointless and annoying.
